The OverAchiever: Completing Nothing Boring about Borean

Last week, I kicked off this new column covering the "I've Toured the Fjord" Quest Achievement for the Wrath starting zone Howling Fjord. Today, as promised, I'm going to cover the Quest Achievement for the other starting zone in Northrend, Borean Tundra with "Nothing Boring about Borean" (A/H)
But first, I want to highlight some excellent resources brought to my attention in the comments of last week's column. I stated that there was no way to track which quests you have completed and which you haven't. Turns out you can with an AddOn called Everyquest. It can only track quests you've done after it's been installed, but you can manually mark off quests you've done previously. An alternative is QuestGuru.
Another good tip is to turn on your low level quest tracker if you are going back to older zones to finish off quests. You'll find it by right-clicking on the magnifying glass icon on the edge of your mini-map.
Now, on to the good stuff!
In the reverse of the Howling Fjord situation, the Horde have more quests to cover (150) in this zone than the Alliance (130.) Quests taking you into the 5-man instance The Nexus will not count for this Achievement.
Here's what you can do to finish up your questing in this zone:
Step 1: Check out quest lists for Borean Tundra:
- WoW Wiki's BT Quest list page
- WoW Head's BT page with map showing quest giver locations.
- Massive Moth Omelet? (H) - On the cliffs near the cave southeast of Warsong Hold, a massive glowing egg needs to be delivered. No chain, small reward, but there you go.
- The Honored Ancestors - A four part chain started by, well, a giant talking rock in southwest Coldrock Quarry. You can't miss it.
- D.E.H.T.A. Encampment - There is an easily missed series of quests in the middle of the zone that has you striking back against Nesingwary and his animal-killing ways. First comment in this WoWHead thread has a run down of all the quests in the chain. It also gives you an Achievement. Bonus: Cenarion Expedition faction gains.
- Coldarra - This is the island off the west coast of the mainland. There are a series of quests at the Transitus Shield there that will help you top off your quest list. Also it gives you the lore behind The Nexus instance.
- Winterfin Retreat - You get to save murlocs, chase murlocs, even dress like one. A quest chain not to be missed. Head to the northwest coast and speak to King Mrgl-Mrgl. Also, more Cenarion Expedition faction.
- D.E.H.T.A.'s Little P.I.T.A.
- Explore Borean Tundra
- Loremaster of Northrend (A/H) - Nothing Boring About Borean is part of this meta-Achievement

Even if you're not going for the achievement, everyone really should do the King Mrgl Mrgl quest line. It's my favourite so far in Northrend if only to hear the babies when you rescue them. Or just watch this vid of the questline: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb46W-sIaDI

Agreed. Nice column, I'm looking forward for the next zones.. I wonder if you're going to cover Old Content as well? Such as Loremaster of Kalimdor/E.K.. Those are serious business.

that youtube vid is phenomenal. those guys are hilarious.
Evi Jan 16th 2009 1:21PM
Agreed. I reluctantly completed the quest because I adored having baby murlocs follow me around. I didn't want to give them back! :)

Oh yeah before i forget, the daily drake hunt quest in Colarra only counts the first time you do it right? Or can you keep repeating it to get those last few down for the achievement?
miked Jan 15th 2009 7:54PM
Nope, daily quests don't count.
Microtonal Jan 15th 2009 7:57PM
No. Daily quests don't count towards the loremaster achievement. They do, however, count towards the "complete X daily quests" achievements.

For added entertainment, open up the Winterfin tadpole cages when you're not on the quest. Some of the responses are priceless, and they end up shutting the cage door again so you're not interfering (too much) with anyone else questing there.

This may have been covered, or I'm jumping ahead a bit, but currently there is a way to bug the Zul'Drak achievment. So, if you plan on starting and finishing this zone before the next patch, read up on it first at Wowhead.

I can't rate this comment up high enough. Don't screw yourself out of the achievement unknowingly. You will be pissed.

Dan- is this column going to be the per-zone questing achievements for the next 2 months? Or is there going to be some variety here? After a while these are all going to look the same: a link to wowhead/wowwiki and a bunch of commentary on the various hubs & chains. How about tossing in a simple, easy achievement along with a longer one each week? e.g., Critter Gitter + Might of Dragonblight for next week.
I think I'm also getting bored with this column so far because I've already gotten my Northrend Loremaster achievement ><

Sorry, I just realized you previewed next week by mentioning the Lunar Festival. Looking forward to it!

This is the one I'm waiting for. I'm 147/150 for this achievement and I've flown around the Borean Tundra so many times hoping to come across a missed quest.
Hopefully, I'll be able to finish this up soon enough.

Make sure to talk to the gnome at Wymrest Temple in Dragonblight. She'll give you a quest to talk to Corastrasza, who's above Nexus, and that quest line counts toward Nothing Boring about Borean.

Kind of an off-topic question, but do those addons also work with Outland and vanilla quests? It'd sure help me work toward Loremaster.

On a side note, purely from my opinion about the relative fun-ness of the zones, I think someone at Blizzard had a bitter sense of humour when they were thinking of names for the achievements.

Unrelated to this specific achievement, I have to express achievement frustration:
I can't get Outland gourmet.
I have done the cooking daily religiously for months, with a short time off to get from 70 to 80, and have not gotten Stormchops.
I have every other recipe in the game, save Chimaerok chops. Which I am working on (I hit neutral with the Brood a day or two ago!).
But I've read reports of people who did the quest religiously all through BC times and never got it.
I wish Blizzard would up the drop rate on it!
I guess I would be ok with them just removing it from the achievement, but to be honest, I'm a completionist, and I want it anyway. =)
Evi Jan 16th 2009 1:28PM
I'm in the same boat. I'm missing the Stormchops recipe. I go back to Shattrath at least once a week to do the cooking quest, hoping the recipe will drop. Still no luck. It's really frustrating!

there is actually another item thats starts a quest in borean, theres some blood that drops off one of the DK mobs in that temple place in the top right corner of borean, sorry im not to specific, i dont remember names and stuff, and am too lazy 2 look em up

No offense but completing all the quests in a zone is hardly the work of an "overachiever", most quests some way or another lead you to all the available questzones. How about some tips and strategies on hard to do heroic achievements instead of "heres where you do quests in this zone" columns? :p
