New PvE realm open for character creation
On top of free transfers for both North American and European servers, a brand new realm has opened up for the US! The vital stats:
- Name: Borean Tundra
- Type: PvE
- Time Zone: Central
- Battlegroup: Emberstorm
- As a non-transfer realm, you can't transfer characters to it (duh) or create Death Knights on it (unless you have another level 55+ character on that realm) for the next 3 months.
- AQ gates are closed.
Reroll locusts, get ready to swarm. When I was on a few hours ago, the highest level was 13 (a hunter); it seems like the realm opened around when Bornakk did his post (9:30 PST/12:30 EST).
There is also, apparently, a new RP transfer realm planned to open at some point; we'll let you know as soon as we find out anything more.
P.S. Hi to Justin, Nerdan, and Healinator.

I've always wanted to participate in the AQ Event. I might roll on the RP server when it hits.
Gnosh Jan 16th 2009 4:11PM
They're wasting hardware on fresh-start servers when over 60 realms have nightly queues?
Ridiculous.
Sakinah Jan 16th 2009 4:16PM
Oh yah. Totally ridiculous to open a new server (which will eventually allow transfers) so the new folks/people itching to re-roll won't take up *more* space on servers with queues.
Jeepers.
Incendium Jan 16th 2009 4:21PM
Throwing more hardware at full/laggy servers will not *magically* fix the problem. Any competent IT professional knows that.
Nice try.
Damntheman Jan 16th 2009 4:27PM
Silly Sakinah,
You really have no idea what motivates the re-roll whores do you? The reason they constantly ask for new servers is because they want to be the first/best. Only they aren't, and never will be. Someone will always have more time than you to sink into this game. Re-roller is not the same as an altoholic.
Alt-whores will never change server, they stay for their guild, friends, whatever. Re-rollers have no serious guild ties or friends, which is why once they re-roll and realize that alas they are not king of their new server they innevitably begin the search for a fresh server on which to re-roll.
Borean Tundra will have ten thousand characters by the weekend. Some re-rollers, some just idiots reserving names. Then it will slowly die. But at least for a couple months it will give thousands of teenagers a place to dream of a black bug mount.

Let's try this again.
Sakinah:
New servers only reduce lag if hundreds of people ABANDON THEIR MAINS on crowded servers to start over. Making a new alt on a crowded server does not increase lag, unless you're opening a new multi-box account.
Incendium:
No, nice try to you. Increasing the NUMBER of servers between which to split 11 million player connections WILL alleviate lag problems. I'm aware that certain stupid individuals have been quoted saying things like "upgrad muh server to make the lagz go aweh", and it doesn't really work like that. But "upgrade the software, not the hardware" is NOT a valid blanket statement by any stretch of the imagination. The horsepower of the engine is irrelevant if the frame of the car is carrying more weight than it can support.
Nerdan Jan 16th 2009 4:13PM
Hiya back, Eliah.
Justin Jan 16th 2009 4:25PM
Well, I would like to say that i now believe you. Nicely done.
Zaylich Jan 16th 2009 6:46PM
You'll never fool me, Eliah. That's not Borean Tundra!
Flairy Jan 16th 2009 4:27PM

Waiting for the RP realm...
...waiting...
...waiting...
Then it will open, and then there will be a 3 month time to wait before transfers are allowed, so I'll again be...
...waiting...
...waiting...
Screw it. $15.00? It might be worth it.
Wanna transfer my rogue...
Shrike Jan 16th 2009 9:50PM
@Keyra:
"There is also, apparently, a new RP transfer realm planned to open at some point;"
Key words there: "RP transfer realm".
This will be, like Garrosh, a new realm which is immediately open to transfers from a much larger number of older realms. And likely free transfers, at that.
My bet: It'll be open to Earthen Ring, Argent Dawn, Blackwater Raiders, Kirin Tor, Twisting Nether, Shadow Council and Moon Guard. It might include Sisters of Elune, The Scryers, Maelstrom and Silver Hand, but I find it unlikely it'll go as low- to medium-pop as Ravenholdt, Sentinels, Cenarion Circle, Feathermoon and Emerald Dream. Scarlet Crusade, Steamwheedle Cartel, Thorium Brotherhood, Farstriders, The Venture Co. and Lightninghoof are unlikely to be affected at all.
WarcraftRealms appears to think the new server will be named Wyrmrest Accord.
(All population numbers from WarcraftRealms, so take them with a grain of salt.)
Keyra Jan 16th 2009 10:50PM
Hmm...I might definitely have to look into that, then! Unfortunately, the realm that I'm on is low-to-mid population, so it will still be a $15.00 transfer, most likely - but it may still be worth it!
Keyra Jan 16th 2009 4:49PM
Doh!
That could be read as paying $15.00 to transfer to a realm that isn't accepting transfers.
That's NOT what I meant.
Duh...blonde moment...and I'm brunette, so go figure. It's Friday...and I'm still at work with far too much blood in my alcohol system.
xenocider Jan 16th 2009 4:49PM
woot emberstorm ftw we still have less servers than all the other battlegroups >.
Faulk_Wulf Jan 16th 2009 4:54PM
I was just thinking: Why don't they build more servers. I didn't think it'd be too cost prohibitive to toss up 3 or 4 new realms. But i don't know how its all networked.
Muse Jan 17th 2009 7:16AM
There are governments on earth whose collective computer processing power is less than that of an average WoW realm.
imrahil327 Jan 16th 2009 6:22PM
I thought that AQ Gates Closed meant you COULDN'T do the event...
AyaJulia Jan 16th 2009 11:12PM
The event is to open them, not to close them.
