Steelseries WoW mouse not so wow-worthy?

How has your experience with the Steelseries mouse been? Are you one of the lucky Europeans who won one in Blizzard's Holiday giveaway or managed to snag one of these lately? There aren't too many reviews over the web by players who actually play World of Warcraft, so it's interesting to see if Richie's is an isolated case (although a couple of posters on his blog concur with his findings). The mouse doesn't have a driver for the Mac, and Steelseries doesn't seem to be producing one soon, so I haven't popped out the $99.99 (or more expensive 89.99 EUR) for it. After reading Richie's review -- or rant, rather -- I'm not certain I still want to, either.

The SteelSeries dude at BlizzCon told me the Mac drivers would be out shortly after the first of the year... but then they also told us the mouse would launch around the time Wrath hit. So no telling.
My mom ordered me one of these for Christmas (still hasn't come in yet though). So I guess I'll find out. But I have two guildies with them and haven't heard any real commentary out of them.

Logitech G9, go go.

If you head over to the steelseries blog. You can read this post
http://www.fragyou.net/2008/12/11/delays-for-the-wow-mmo-gaming-mouse/#comments
The first 60 or so comments are before the mouse shipped and then as soon as people started getting them the reports of fail start to flood in. There are a lot of angry comments but some of them are specific details of the mouses problems.
I wanted one of these very badly but now there is no way I'm getting one.

If it ends up being a lemon, I am going to be one angry panda.

Wow I was actually thinking about getting one of these too

I pre-ordered one back in December and finally lost patience this week in waiting. I canceled my order and will most likely pick up a Logitech mouse very soon.

I use Logitech for my keyboard, mouse, speakers, and headphones, and absolutely love their products. They've a bit more expensive than other brands (though actually not as expensive as the Steelseries), but for as much as I use my keyboard and mouse, it's been worth it.
I've also heard good things about Microsoft brand keyboard and mice.

That should be "They're a bit more expensive". I need to lrn2proofread.

I'm currently using a Microsoft brand keyboard and mouse, and have had no problems at all with either. After years of using a regular mouse, the wireless is excellent, and the extra buttons on both mouse and keyboard help a great deal.
For example, one of the programmable buttons on my keyboard... launches WoW. *grin*

If your going for an MS mouse dont go for the HABU, this thing has such bad build quality.

I too love Logitech products, despite the slight extra cost. Can't wait for the G9x mouse to come out, will do more than the Steelseries ever could.

I'm using a microsoft keyboard (Just the standard black one) with a microsoft Sidewinder mouse, the keyboard is about 6 years old and only now have the buttons started to fade - and its only the a, s and d keys that are fading, The mouse I have had for close to a year and a half and I can't complain - It sometimes has a bit of lag on the side buttons but appart from that its an excellent mouse, especially with the adjustable weight and sensitivity!

I knew from the beginning this thing would be total crap. And a price tag of $99.99 US is ridiculous.
My Logitech MX518 was only $34.99 and works wonderfully.
But I guess it really comes down to personal preference when you choose a mouse.

I tried one of these at Blizzcon, the buttons were flimsy and spongy, the build quality dreadful, the side buttons "dangled" and seemed to almost fall off when I clicked them, the whole thing felt cheap, plastic-y and just awful to use.
So I got an MX Revolution instead and a VX Revolution for my laptop. It cost less, does more and works on my MacBook Pro.

I used one for a good 10 minutes at Blizzcon and didn't think so at all. In fact, I was quite enamored of it. It's too bad reports like these are spreading around...hopefully they can get their manufacturing in order, I'd still love to pick one up myself.

@Prophetik
Why comments like "It's too bad reports like these are spreading around..." seems like astroturfing to me?

Go Logitech. They recently revamped their gaming product line, mice, keyboards, sound systems etc.
Bloody epic stuff, take it from me. Grabbed a G35, G15, new sound system, all logitech, all top quality. Sure, more expensive than most other alternatives, but the quality is there.

I love my Logitech G15 Keyboard, but my G5 mouse was my baby. That is, until it decided that it would only go diagonally up-left to down-right. I'd still recommend the G5 from Logitech, because the feel was completely perfect for me. With the customizable weight cartridge, I weighed it down to the max and now the ancient Microsoft Intelli-mouse I'm currently using feels like a toy (not that Microsoft makes poor mice: this is one of their old, original optical mice from the late '90s I'm using, so it's from prior to the premium mouse boom when mice - aside from Razer's original Boomslang in '99 - were taken mostly for granted). I'd also recommend looking at the Logitech MX Revolution. Once I get the cash, that's what I'm buying, because I've tried one several times and I love the way it fits my hand. It's wireless, too, so their's that. Logitech makes great mice, simple as that. The WoW Mouse from SteelSeries sounds fun, but I doubt it's that much better then the Logitechs I've used.

oh i love my MX Revolution! in particular i especially love the thumb switch at the side-it gives me access to my panic buttons with FPS-like reaction times!

I am a Mac user, a diehard Mac fanboi.
Ironically, I WONT use ANYTHING except a Microsoft Mouse. They are simply the best I have found without spending a damn fortune, I already did that on my Mac, lol:)
But seriously, this is WoW, you dont need ultra precision superfast mice, this isn't an FPS.
