Reputation gains on grey mobs changed in 3.0.8
3.0.8 just keeps giving us more surprises. The newest patch note update tosses us this fun number: Reputation gained from mobs no longer deprecates based on your level! This means that even if you're level 80 and killing mobs in Stratholme for rep, you'll still gain the full amount of Argent Dawn rep you would've gotten if you were level 60 (or the mobs were 80). Good news for those of you trying to get Argent Champion, Guardian of Cenarius, or Diplomat, although the folks that already ground those reps without this change might feel it trivializes those titles. For those of who you haven't started the grinds yet, maybe you should consider waiting a little bit and taking advantage of this change to save your sanity a bit. This isn't the first time a change like this has been made, but it's a welcome one.WI reader Ray actually notified us of this change on the PTR a few days ago, but apparently I'm so slow that the change managed to make the updated 3.0.8 notes before I posted it. This is me hanging my head in shame. I'LL MAKE IT UP TO YOU, RAY.

Oh great. Just when I JUST GOT Exalted with the Argent Dawn...

The changes to reputation were initially published on 01/06/09.

It's older news than that. I tested it on the PTR and verified that grey mobs gave full rep back on December 26, in response to a forum post querying whether the widely reported change was for real or not.

Indeed this is very old news. I want the Baron's mount on my death knight, but I've been avoiding running Strat for it because I heard of this change last month and figured I might as well wait until I can get exalted at the same time too.

I saw the changes they made to grey mobs and I...
Jizzed in my pants!

THANK. GOD.
Diplomat title here I come. Just need furbolgs now.
Kevin Gass Jan 18th 2009 3:05PM
Yea! I was just thinking i need to get my Talbuk Mounts but I wont have to grind as long! woo!
Makme Jan 18th 2009 3:06PM
So would this mean that60-65 instances still give rep revered > exalted?
Rich Jan 18th 2009 3:13PM
No
It means Furbolgs and stuff that rep scales down with level now give full rep. The Orcs in HFP and the rep from Outland instances were based off Rep level.
Jayeless Jan 18th 2009 3:34PM
Actually, currently the 60-65 instances outland instances (such as Ramps and Underbog) only gave rep up to a specific level for on-level characters (honored for Thrallmar, I believe the same for CE), so this change wouldn't affect acquiring Thrallmar or Cenarian Expedition rep via non-70 instances.
However, for level 80s that did not obtain exalted status with the Outland factions pre-Lich King, this change will allow them to run Outlands instances that give rep up to exalted, such as Shattered Halls or heroics, and receive full reputation instead of partial reputation for killing level 70 grays.

This is a HYUGE plus to someone who worked through to the Bloodsail Admiral title, and who now wants to talk to those goblins again. Apparently you need them to level cooking *shame*
I expect to be spending a fair bit of time at Lost Rigger Cove once this patch hits :P

Would have been nice to have when I was grinding Scholo rep to get exalted before LK came out, but I have my Argent Champion title. I might actually try to do Furbolg rep now.
I don't feel like Blizz cheapened it though. No sense in getting mad over it. It gave me things to do during the level 70 cap. I just wish they did it sooner.
Now, how about a damned achievement for getting exalted with Hodir... with all the crap you do to get it, I think they kind of owe me ;-)
Amaxe Jan 18th 2009 3:24PM
That should have read "grinding Scholo to get rep"
Mainstay Jan 18th 2009 3:25PM
Something that wasn't listed here, but it also applies, it makes it so that the level 70 Dungeon reps (Cenarion Expedition, Honor Hold, etc) are achieveable by people who weren't around during TBC (ie: DKs)
Going into like Heroic Underbog and getting like 6 rep per kill kinda makes you less interested in that Cenarion Expedition rep

"Going into like Heroic Underbog and getting like 6 rep per kill kinda makes you less interested in that Cenarion Expedition rep"
Or you could collect the ears for DETHA and gain CE rep that way.

People also wanting to get exalted with Hydraxian Waterlords will be able to do so without having to run MC over 9000 times.
kalatash Jan 19th 2009 1:37AM
WHAT 9000?!?!
[Sorry, it had to be said.]
David Whyld Jan 18th 2009 3:54PM
It's the Hydraxian Waterlords one I'm looking forward to. At the moment, I need about 25000 rep to hit exalted; at current standards, that would take literally dozens of runs. With the new rep buff, though, I can probably do it in 4-5 runs.
The Claw Jan 18th 2009 5:54PM
Pretty sure that Hydraxian rep only comes from trash up to Revered, from Revered to Exalted it's bosses only.
wowwiki has the total rep for a clear being 1050 once you're Revered, not counting the grey mob penalty which will be removed. That tallies up with what I remember from those days, about 20 full clears to get from Revered to Exalted. I never made it, I'd gladly left MC far behind me long before I got Exalted.
