Back when my friend and I were total nubs and ran a little guild, we advertised often and were even guilty of cold-inviting lowbies to the guild.

We picked up a little bad rep, but mostly we just got people. Around 20 players or so, and a fair deal of them were actually good.

Also, no real reason to get all up in arms. I've tried, and kids will never learn not to use "gay" and somesuch as a euphemism for "bad".
