PTR closes, after patch is released
Today the PTRs have closed their doors, officially ending the testing phase of patch 3.0.8. And while there will be some crying folks who say things like "This patch is broke, and they're testing it on live," well, there are some good tissues to be had. It's also good to note that the PTR closed after, not before, the patch was released.
Many people, both our readers and several people on staff, use the PTR's status as a barometer for when the patch will come out. And while often its closure heralds in a new patch, it is now evident that its activeness does not mean a patch is not coming. An important point to be had

The PTR's have been up till after the patch has came out for the past years worth of patches.

it's so hard to differentiate between stupid people and trolls nowadays.
Amaxe Jan 20th 2009 2:56PM
The confusion is understandable
All Trolls Are Stupid People.
Not All Stupid People are Trolls

"It's also good to note that the PTR closed after, not before, the patch was released. "
So you were able to login and play before the PTR was taken down?
Shionia Jan 20th 2009 2:44PM
actually ... even though the realms weren't up, if you attempted to log in it was possible to download the patch.

Just another step in the life we call WOW.

I logged on before I knew it was extended all excited that I'd finally find people willing to go for "Gotta Go!" and now I don't see it in the patch notes anymore :(
Balius Jan 20th 2009 2:53PM
The patch notes are NEVER complete. Just because the notes don't reflect a change doesn't mean that one wasn't made.

Oh, I know. I've just been trying for weeks, each time with it ending in frustration. Can't help but think the worst, know what I mean?

I still haven't heard is there a new raid or not, I remembering reading we were getting one witht this patch in offical forums, but nothing in recent articles or the new patch notes (seems like it be worth putting in)
Balius Jan 20th 2009 3:11PM
No.
Ulduar will be the next big raid, in patch 3.1
Kakistocracy Jan 20th 2009 3:12PM
Actually, you never read that.

those people shouldn't whine that much, the patches always seem to need to be tested on the live servers, there's always a mess of problems after they go up..
geekahedron Jan 20th 2009 3:28PM
I usually refrain from comment on the minor grammatical and spelling errors that pepper posts on this site, but this entry is so particularly rife with problems (in such a short space) that I cannot let it go unmentioned.

"This patch is broke, and they're testing it on live,"
Yep things like world servers crashing due to wintergrasp are a small thing I guess :)

Trying to justify your weekly Monday post that the patch is coming, the patch is coming Adam? ROFL
