Bloodmyst moths tameable, and other undocumented Hunter changes
Mania's been doing a great job of covering the undocumented Hunter changes in the latest patch -- she's got them on this post down below the usual patch notes. In short, there are a few pets that have become untameable: the Sapphire Hive Queen in Sholazar Basin, the three Oracles spirits summoned during their daily quest, and Gezzarak the Hunter, a Warp Stalker summoned back in Skettis during the Aversarial Blood quest. Strangely enough, problems with those pets have been fixed, so if you've got one tamed from before the patch, it should work better, but you can't seem to tame them now. And finally, the low-level blue moths on Bloodmyst Isle can now be tamed (apparently though the ability to tame Moths got added a while back, these guys couldn't be tamed for some reason).Of course, lots of BM Hunters aren't real thrilled about the changes to their class, and getting to tame some low-level moths probably isn't a good enough tradeoff. But still, if you've been waiting to go all the way back to Bloodmyst and pick up a moth to take to 80 with you, now's your chance.

Woo-hoo! On my way!
Hmm...taking into consideration the current lag, I wonder how long it would take from Stranglethorn Vale? 2, maybe 3 hours? :-)

Tamed...and they're not exotics! I am now the proud (?) owner of one Royal Blue Flutterer...level 40 (my hunter is lvl 45). Of course, I also had to endure an immediate ganking by a lvl 51 Blood Elf hunter who ALSO had a new moth! :-)

afaik, there was a change where anything low level you tamed would be raised to your level minus 5. So, not really a big deal to take it up to 80.
dreadpiraterose Jan 21st 2009 7:37PM
I didn't realize that (about taming lower level pets). I just started a hunter alt (I'm only to level 19 in fact).
Let's say I trained a pet at level 10 and then switched to something else. My first pet is still 10. If I just dump him, and retrain the same thing at 25, he'll start as a 20? Did I get that right?

Even easier: pets will get raised to your level -5 when you either tame them or take them out of the stable. So, no need to train a new one - just pull the old one out and enjoy!

Noooooooooooooo! They got rid of Gezzarak? She was the only way to get the black warp stalker skin... and she had that awesome animation! If they fixed the bugs with her, why remove the ability to tame her? Sure, she took some skill to tame, but like the spirit beasts, that was part of the fun!
Ever since I saw the unused black warp stalker in the model viewer, I wanted one... before WotLK, you couldn't tame any, and now Blizz went and took away the only way to get one before I got high enough level to seriously try.
Same with the Hive Queen - only way to get a particular skin, and SHE didn't even have any weird behavior. Maybe this is sexism on Blizz's part! They don't want people taming obviously female pets!

I think Gezzarak is still tameable. I think they fixed her too.
Least she better be tamable. :(
Arashikou Jan 21st 2009 9:34PM
Nope. :( I just summoned her to check and die, and she appears to be untameable. Gezzarak becoming untameable is just one of many surprise changes in the final version of 3.0.8 that somehow never came up on the PTR...

Glyph of Mend Pet is bugged, won't raise pet happiness.
Pucelle Jan 21st 2009 9:48PM
It still does, and on each tick now, but it doesn't show in your combat log.
Deevan Jan 21st 2009 10:26PM
It's (glyph of mend pet) only bugged if you have taken the Improved Mend Pet talents. So one of the best soloing talents in the BM tree or mana based pet happiness, for now.
[Bug] Report Time. :/
AyaJulia Jan 22nd 2009 6:19AM
@Pucelle: No, it doesn't. At least, for some people it doesn't. Check the bug report forums, this is (now) a known issue that a lot of people are irritated with.
And as a general comment: After seeing the husband's hunter in Naxx tonight, I am obscenely disappointed with Blizzard for allowing this patch to go live. Hunters are now so riddled with bugs that I wonder if we'd be better off calling in the Orkin man and leaving our characters alone while they fumigate for a few days.
Glyph of Mend Pet doesn't give happiness.
Prowl still keeps turning itself on.
Pet keeps randomly setting itself to "Stay" instead of "Follow."
Couldn't get the pet to pull back from a fight by hitting "Passive."
When we finally DID get the pet to pull back, it ran around insanely for a while--from the hunter to the mob (Heigan, for the record) and back, and all over the platform we were standing on--before it finally settled down.
Aspects still trigger a GCD.
How did any of this get through, honestly?

Aren't real thrilled? Thats a big understatement.........
garfunkel Jan 21st 2009 9:16PM
was BM my whole life, now putting out huge numbers raiding as Surv spec
ES is hitting so hard, i put Loque'nahak in the stable.............
hunter nerf? what hunter nerf?
sure maybe we were "semi-forced" out of the BM tree, but for me personally, it made me a better hunter
cheers from hellscream

The blue moth thing doesn't matter for level 80 hunters (or level 70 hunters) - there were identical moth skins in Netherstorm for us already. This is only a change for lowbies.
In exchange for that, they nerfed our DPS and took away several of the rarer and more interesting pets out there.
Totally fair exchange!
Oh, and P.S. - if you think it's no big deal to get a pet from, say, 75 to 80, bear in mind that you're looking at about 550,000 XP (and I'm lowballing it - it's 103,000 XP for 75 -> 76 and it only gets worse from there). That's quite a few heroic runs with an underpowered pet - or else wonderful, wonderful grinding (with an underpowered pet).
Keyra Jan 21st 2009 10:06PM
Lowbies? I'm a MIDDIE, thank you very much! :-P
Seriously though, for one who has been running around with the same kitty for the last 20 levels, having the blue moth is cool!
Now if I can only get out of the "between lvl 45 and 50" doldrums...it's taking for freakin' ever to break to just to 46!!! Of course...I'm also leveling a couple of alts, so.................
Bruenir Jan 22nd 2009 8:29AM
Last night I was leveling a devilsaur from 75 to 76, and it was a lot more than 100K. It was 160K. I slogged through a bunch of the 76-78 mobs near K3 in Storm Peaks. It only took me.. I dunno, 2 hours? Joy. Tonight, 76 to 77. Double joy.
Pucelle Jan 22nd 2009 9:50AM
@ Bruenir: I was lowballing it for the sake of simplicity, but I do know it rises exponentially - my level 78 cat dinged 79 last night, and I took a look at the bar... only 16x,000 left to go, wonderful.
So it's actually closer to a full million XP - I'm sure you could find the exact amount somewhere. In any case, it's still a grind... just a bit less of one.

Whoa...they're deleting all of the "first" posts?
YYYYYESSSS!!! THANK YOU, WI!!!!!!!
