Old world boss gold drops reduced in 3.0.8
Enjoy soloing Onyxia for a quick 180 gold every five days? With patch 3.0.8, those good old days are no more, as boss gold drops (at least back in the old world) seem to have been significantly reduced. Onyxia's 180 gold is now 50 gold and forum posters are noticing similar reductions in other old world raids from Ahn'Qiraj to Zul'Gurub. Is this the end of old world raiding for good? Well, it may not be as profitiable, but I'm willing to go on record saying that slaughtering Onyxia is still plenty of fun. Plus it's the only way to complete that awesome tier 2 set you need to be super stylish while idling in Dalaran.

Bummer. I just discovered this easy gold last week.

They nerfed quest gold at the level cap too...

“You get either the gold reward from the quest or the gold from experience to cash, whichever is greater. You do not get both.”

EGADS! What the hell?
I passed up on dozens of quests to run to Northrend when I could have stayed back in Outlands and basked in the easy mobs, easy gold and rep. (I am a rather new player and never got to experience them.)
What is the point of going back and doing old quests if you do not receive the gold bonus from the level cap? Yes, I'm aware that there is plenty of gold to be had from Northrend, the Auction House, mobs, etc... but I was really looking forward to farming acheivements while saving quickly for an epic mount.
Meh.

I don't see the need for this change. It's not like 150-200g is game-breaking once every five days. I'll still farm her for fun and bags, though. But it kinda sucks that it's worth 100 less gold, now.

Yes, but solo or 2 manning Ony+ZG+AQ20 was netting people quite a lot of gold. Once you learn all those pulls with your small group, you could be netting 2-3k gold each week
Pantyraider Jan 21st 2009 12:10PM
As opposed to earning 2k-3k gold a week spending hours doing dailies? or mining? or flowerpicking?

"As opposed to earning 2k-3k gold a week spending hours doing dailies? or mining? or flowerpicking?"
What if you do all that.. AND raid? Its not "one or other" for some.

"quick 180 gold every five days"
See, that isn't much at all over 5 days in the context of dailies. And most people are not soloing her, its usually 2 minimum, thus its 60g over 5 days, which is not much at all. As such I find this nerf rather pointless.

180 gold every 5 days?
And people really do Onyxia for this reason?
Tom Jan 21st 2009 10:03AM
startSarcasm(The Fun:Reward ratio was to high. They want you focusing on their new content, not doing what you want to do. Sheesh.);

I have been....when I can take 20 minutes every few days and make 180g plus what I get for selling the epics off, it was worth it. Now that my bank is fully stocked with the 18 slot bags, though, and the amount of gold has been cut to about 1/4 of what it was, it really won't be.
As it is, I usually take along 1 or 2 guildy alts and let them have the bag and head and any gear they can use. It cut down on the amount of gold I was making, but it was fun to get them some of those level 60 epics and good quality blues. So I'll probably do it every now and again still, just not as much.

I thought I read on the forums some classes especially prot pallies and Death Knights were using old world raids for gold runs and making quite a bit.

Blizzard nerfed TBC dailys too... I have a second account with a level 70 Warrior and I didn't upgrade it to WotLK, that toon was my gold provider, but now they reduced to 40% (aprox) the gold reward... :(
Stripes Jan 21st 2009 11:40AM
I think that one is because you aren't at the level cap anymore. So the XP that was half the gold now isn't gold. Just a guess.
Amaxe Jan 21st 2009 10:14AM
It makes sense actually. The rewards were based on something that was once very difficult. Now that it is soloable, things need to be proportionate.
180g might not be very much if it was your weekly take total, but it does start adding up if you have certain things on farm status.
For an example, look at the daily rewards for quests in Borean compared to the daily rewards in Icecrown.
FlameFlash Jan 21st 2009 10:18AM
Lame.
I see no point in this. Sure it's something easy to toggle, but if they really want people to not mess with the economy they need to make those old world polymorph books buyable from some mage in Dalaran.
~180g isn't a big deal.
2kg, that's a big deal.

Actually, I believe “waste of time” is what I’m looking for. They can’t be bothered to fix bugs, but they can just as easily downgrade gold drops? They need to focus their “balance” on actual bugs and class issues instead.
Corazu Jan 21st 2009 11:02AM
@NoTomorrow:
Onyxia is 40 man. Zul'Gurub and Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj are 20 man.
Sae Jan 21st 2009 11:03AM
It's not as though the whole team can only do one of these things at a time.
Somehow I doubt it took many man hours at all to make this change. It's the same thing with people whining about being able to open clams. You're not getting one over the other, here.

I think my point was that if you can spare 5 seconds to fix one thing, take that 5 seconds (Minsicule though you think it is) and use it elsewhere on something that needs it more.
