Patch 3.0.8 bug roundup
My favorite time of the patch day is here – looking at all the bugs! At the time of this writing, we're about six hours after the patch and the majority of bugs have been found. We've counted six of them, and will go over each and when the fix is expected after the break.Obviously some are more important than others. The Wintergrasp bug that is currently crashing servers left and right needs to be fixed "nao," as people are clamoring about in trade channels. The game is nearly unplayable for most people.
Interestingly there are no bugs about
The full list of 3.0.8 bugs, and information about their status, after the break.
1. Wintergrasp
The Bug: Any time Lake Winterfail changes side, the server crashes. Some reports have the bug only crashing Northrend, while others have the bug crashing the entire server. This means that some servers are barely playable.
The Fix: It's incoming. Bornakk has said they're going to disable the buff (which is the apparent cause) if they can't find an immediate solution. Expect the fix soon. Update: It appears the bug has been fixed, but we're waiting on official confirmation.
Additional information: Skarlet sends us the following tip: "We had found that with Wintergrasp crashing the servers constantly that the books for the Higher Learning Achievement were respawning on every crash. I think most of Proudmoores alliance has completed this achievement in about an hour now." Gasp!
2. Death Knight Creation
The Bug: As of today, people were supposed to be able to create a Death Knight on any realm – provided they had a level 55+ character present on their account. This has not happened, and some people are reporting that they are unable to create Death Knights on realms in which they don't have a 55+ character.
The Fix: It's incoming. Rolling restarts should take care of it, and we're guessing they'll be doing that within the next 12 hours.
3. Hunter Aspects On GCD
The Bug: Some Hunter aspects are still on a global cooldown like mechanic, which goes against Blizzard's intentions. People are placing the cooldown at 1.5 seconds (it should be 0).
The Fix: Soon. Ghostcrawler has said that they know about it and should have something worked out soon.
4. Howling Blast
The Bug: The tooltip indicates that there is no cooldown to the spell, when in reality it's on a 5 second cooldown. If you cast Howling Blast, and then try to do it immediately again, you'll notice the 5 second cooldown.
The Fix: Soon, says Ghostcrawler. But it's mainly an inconvenience and not a game breaker. Don't expect this to be fixed over night.
5. Animation Clipping
The Bug: Human females are having animation problems when using two handed weapons and shooting a ranged weapon.
The Fix: Soon. Blizzard is aware of the problem (they even announced it before the patch went live). We do not have any indication that they'll be correcting it before the next patch, however.
6. Ritual of Summoning
The Bug: There is a two minute cooldown for the Warlock to cast the new Ritual of Summoning spell. The spell will make a summoning stone, which can be used by party members to summon folks. The Warlock spell, not the stone, has a two minute cooldown. This was added at the last minute to prevent an exploit (no indication of what the exploit was).
The Fix: Soon. Blizzard is working on a solution, and Ghostcrawler expects this to be fixed in the next couple of days.
7. Missing mail, again?
We've gotten some reports on our twitter stream about missing mail and mail that won't go to players. Since we've gotten a few independent reports of this, it's worth mentioning and keeping an eye on. Let's all just say a silent prayer that we don't find ourselves without mail for a few days. My wallets need their AH gold.
We'll update this post when new information comes in tonight. And as always, keep an eye on WoW Insider throughout the day for the latest.

I can confirm this as well - fishing in waters where the quest fish can be caught results in a cast, a bob, then no fish at all. When you abandon the fishing daily, fishing works as intended.
I also agree that this was an attempt to fix the quest bug, which was just fine as it was.

Actually, you can catch fish in spawn pools, but not elsewhere. With autoloot on, I could only catch spawn fish, not even the quest fish. Previous to this patch, I caught Old Crafty in Org with autoloot on and couldn't loot him. Put in a ticket and a very snotty gm told me the chances to get him are increased doing the croc daily and to "take of autoloot if you want to loot him next time," and that this extra chance was being removed. I suspect these bugs are the result of "fixing" that.
(I did not get credit for Old Crafty, and when I protested got "That's the way it works, my friend." "It's a give and take situation." IMO - that's a TAKE situation, it's not my fault you can make the program work right. GM then proceeded to spam me with nonsense trying to get me to give him a feedback compliment, talking about dwarven brews and other nonsense. I felt like putting him on ignore.)

I think they screwed up the Pygmy Suckerfish as well. I was out fishing in pools today and ended up getting one per every fish.
I ended up with 6 stacks of pygmy oil from fishing up 100 Glacial Salmon.

Also, I dont know if they meant to do this or not, but the size of the white polar bear mount use to be a lot smaller witch was nice for taurens, but now its the same size as the other bear mounts.

That was actually an announced bug fix. Sorry, your bear is all grownd up now.

It would appear that I've lost my ghost 5% fist weapon specialisation crit bonus. I consider that a bug!
The picture, I believe, is a debugger or memory monitor of some sort, I believe. Or, perhaps a stack trace or core dump analyzer.

The article picture looks like a screenshot of the macsbug debugger. (It's been about 10 years since I used it, though. )

Ding Ding!

Haven't seen MacsBug in ages. Awesome!
Bunkai Jan 21st 2009 11:57AM
Or any number of other hex dumps.

I've been unable to buy a frostsaber for my Draenei. A human and a gnome were there having the same problem.
Stone_Rhino Jan 21st 2009 1:03AM
You still need to be exalted with the faction to purchase and ride the mounts.
vexis58 Jan 21st 2009 3:18AM
Nothing changed regarding frostsabers, as they did not have any racial restrictions before the patch.
RipeTomatoe Jan 21st 2009 12:55AM
that picture is too small for me to tell, but it looks like a SQL server.
Tayla Jan 21st 2009 12:56AM
Last i heard, the summoning ritual for warlocks was NOT putting down the stone.
i've had five different warlocks try it, and each time they were able to summon one person and no stone appeared.
Stone_Rhino Jan 21st 2009 1:06AM
I have the same issue. Warlock summons are the same as before, they just have a 2 min CD. (IE, No stone, just single target summons)
On one hand, its kind of annoying. But it also forces people to actually fly to the instance ahead of time instead of expecting chain summons 5 mins before the start of the run.

It's MacsBug (having spent far too much time in MacsBug working on System 7, 8, and 9, I'm familiar with the screen).
When a Mac system (pre OSX) crashed and you had debugging code enabled, this screen would appear, allowing the developer to see why it crashed.

I have no idea when this started, but my stats have me having looted 74 Emblems of Valor, but my currency tab shows me with 75.
Halokon Jan 21st 2009 8:34AM
As far as I'm aware, the achievement count doesn't include any badges gained via the daily heroic quest, so you will usually have more actual badges than the achievement/stat window will say.
Skummy Jan 21st 2009 8:38AM
The emblems obtained from the daily quests don't count towards the "looted" total, as they were'nt looted, but awarded.
