Glyph of Holy Light nerfed
Yesterday, the healing forums were flooded with complaints largely by Priests alleging that the new 3.0.8 version of the Paladin Glyph of Holy Light was completely overpowered and made Paladins into group healers, shoe-horning them into a niche recently left half-vacant by our Circle of Healing nerf. Such complainants will presumably be happy to hear that the glyph is being hotfixed, reducing the range from 20 yards to 8.
Ghostcrawler calls the glyph "vastly overpowered," and goes on in a later post to give a bit more information. Like most changes, this was not done in response to QQ; as it turns out, the glyph was just overpowered. He also states that [major] glyphs are meant to be "about on par with passive talents" in terms of their power, which is in line with what I've been observing (maybe a few percent increase in damage/healing/mitigation per glyph, for the good ones).
At any rate, sorry to my Holy Paladin friends; I guess this one was just too good to last. I'm still jealous of your everlasting mana.

People comparing a glyph with a 41 point talent, oh come on. This nerf is nothing like the CoH nerf. You paid 41 points for CoH.

1) About the priests :
I'm a priest, usually first in the charts in 10/25men on a excellent raiding server. Here are my 3 main spells pre patch (not exactly theses stats but almost that) :
-CoH 30%
-PoM 30%
-FlashHeal 30%
After patch 3.0.8 my 3 main spells are... guess what ? They are the same, almost the same stats, maybe even a little more CoH.
And you know why ? Because priests are not a fucking "one button" healing class. You have a lot of powerful spells use them and stop crying about this stupid CoH. If you have a problem with the nerf of CoH its ONLY because you use it far too much before .
2) About the pally and the glyph
This glyph is in the game since the patch 3.0. Its not smart, that heals 5 people in 20 yards circle around the holy light target. It was 5 yards before and it will be 8 soon. But do you think that's change a lot of things ?
Ok let's think a little :
That heals IS NOT smart, so that heals the 5 closest players of the holy light target. So basically pally are tank healers right ? So this glyph heal the melee dps and OT mainly right ? Melee dps are usually not far from the tank (less than 8 yards) right ? So do you think this fix will change a lot of things ?
Almost nothing ! The glyph of holy light was an important part of the healing of the pally in my guild since the patch 3.0.2! Not only since the last patch. This last patch increased VERY slightly their healing.
If priests are crying because of this "OP" glyph its because they dont know how to play their class. If pally are crying about this new nerf of the glyph its because they didn't use it well before the patch.
The healing order on the charts almost didn't change with this patch in my guild Its a change only for 80% CoH priests pre patch and for pally who discover the powerful of the glyph now.
3) About holy priests and holy pally
Holy priest were and still are a powerful and fun healing class. Holy pally still need a few more spells to make this spec more interesting, fun to play and more efficient on raid healing. This glyph help a lot but its still not enough.
Also i agree you can do a raid without a holy priest like you can do a raid with only holy priest to heal. But like someone said, its always better to have a mix of the all healing class.

Well I've used the glyph since it was 5 yards, and while the 20 yards is nice, I think 8 yards is too small. There are a few fights that the melee DPS has to stand more then 10 yards from the tank, and as a tank spammer the glyph becomes useless if people are doing what they should. If this glyph stayed at 11-15 yards I'd be happy with it, if others think a 20 yard non-smart heal that procs off of the biggest, slowest, and most mana intensive spell we have it OP, then lets make a compromise that works, not a nerf into uselessness.
As it has been pointed out, this is not a smart heal and it does tend to just overheal, and even if it isn't its only 1.5k-1.8k(on a holy light crit, not critting the second heal) and even to get that you have to be spamming holy light to get any real healing out of it. You also have to think of it as a 1k(from a well geared pally HL non crit) is really not that much. Being decently geared I can spam flash of light and shock of light when needed almost endlessly without worry, but start just tossing out holy light and you go oom fairly quickly.
Not playing a priest or looking onto their recent nerfs, I'm under the impression they now have a 6sec CD just like holy shock, the 3rd healing spell I have and only instant cast. It's a different play style, I get no dmg mitigating sheilds(well the one but its kinda odd and doesn't work in the same way) so I have to be prehealing if there is going to be any big spike dmg, and it can be very close sometimes to get the holy light into the flash of light spam without the tank going down, more so if the dmg was unexpected.
Learn your class, play your class, and until you see pallies in blues and greens topping you on the effective healing charts all the time, it might not be that we are OP, just that we know how to play.
Everyone needs to remember that this glyph came in during a priest nerf. From what I've read and heard a lot of priests had lots of their healing from the nerfed spell, and while they are getting use to new rotations with the CD they will heal less, but once they get back into it they should be fine. Just cause you're on a learning curve doesn't mean we shouldn't get any usable raid heal.

@Gothia
If you think WOTLK holy pallies are 1 button spammers (like most people who jump on the slagging bandwagon) then i think you need to go and do some research before continuing with further comments and embarressing yourself.
I use within a moderately challenging raid boss fight (Maly, Sarth 3D)
Flash of Light
Holy Light
Holy Shock
Seal of Wisdom
Judgement of Wisdom/Light
Divine Favor
Divine Illumination
Divine Plea
Avenging Wrath
Sacred Shield
and then on certain fights i have to use Hand of Protection and Hand of Sacrifice.
I wouldnt presume to comment on how a Priest would personally heal a fight so unless you are currently running a level 80 Paladin in a raid i suggest you dont.

I am not complaining because it was too powerful for a glyph, but it isn't nearly as powerful as some non-pallies seem to think.
At the end of the day, being a non-smart heal means that much of the extra healing is wasted as overheal. Looked at my WWS report for last night, and Glyph of Holy Light was 11% of my total healing but had a 60% overheal.

homo priests, always with the QQing. 20 yards was the whole reason I put that back in my book, reduced to 8yards = replaced with something else.
20 yards isn't all that much, 8 yards is just as useless as 5 yards.
Hox Jan 23rd 2009 7:20PM
You are just a bad pally if you didnt use it before. go back at the bottom of the chart...
Thorian Jan 27th 2009 5:26PM
I just can't stand people whining about how "OP" paladin heals are. For raid heals, druids and shamans can EASILY outheal a pally. For tank heals, druids and priests again can EASILY outheal us healadins. Know what we've got in raids? Survivability and mana efficiency.
When someone does something HORRIBLY wrong and people's health starts dropping like mad, healadins can shine. Pop beacon onto the tank right away, drop ANY judgment onto ANY enemy, pop Divine Illumination, wings, any trinkets you have, and go to town. Your Holy lights will cost you next to nothing, heal for a shit ton, and be coming ever 1.3 seconds or so.
If nothing really goes horribly wrong, we just get to sit back and watch as priests, druids, and shamans pull farther and farther ahead.
So what if we get ONE really good heal. It's not like we can afford to spam Holy Light throughout an entire encounter.
Strong spot heal =/= OP super healer.
