Veteran Nanny fixed, Violet Proto-Drake will still take a year to get
ashenmonuments spotted yet another undocumented change that will help you achievement hounds. Apparently Blizzard has updated the Veteran Nanny achievement from Children's Week to include pets you've already learned. So it won't actually take you three years to earn the achievement (since you can only get one pet per year). Any pets you have already should now count towards getting the points.Unfortunately, this won't help the Violet Proto-Drake seekers, because the Veteran Nanny achievement got removed in 2.4.3 as part of the Children's Week meta-achievements (probably because Blizzard noted that it took so long to get done). And even if it did count, you'll still need the Brewfest achievements... which you'll have to wait until this October to get (since Blizzard dropped the achievements patch after Brewfest ended last year). But Children's Week enthusiasts who have already collected pets in the past will have a little less work to do to pick up the Veteran Nanny achievement.

Now if they'd only remove the stupid Drink a brew each month for a year achievement from the brewfest meta achievement, I could have a chance. Of course, that would mean that I wouldn't have to pay about £100 on subcription to get the achievement, so why would they do that...
Also, as my main is from a new(ish) server (Blade's Edge EU) and we haven't had even one Children's Week, Brew-Fest is probably the least of my worries.

(And by that, I mean there's a lot of other achievements which are time sensitive for getting the Drake, not specifically Children's Week)

I have to agree with you. I really think that it should be changed from drinking the Brew of the Month brew each month to just being a member of the Brew of the Month club.
They removed the much easier Perma-Peddlefeet achievement from the Valentine's Day meta, so this small modification would make it a lot more reasonable.

As well, didn't they cut the brewfest brew of the month club halfway through before? If it happens again, any subscribers who shoveled the coins into that are screwed. Then again, it's only what I've heard.

I only found out about the brew of the month earlier this month, I wasn't even subscribing during the 2008 brewfest, why should I have to wait 2 years for an achievement...
webrunner Jan 22nd 2009 9:17AM
It's worse than that, you have to wait until NEXT October, as one of the Achievements specifically takes a whole year AFTER Brewfest.
nbcaffeine Jan 22nd 2009 9:26AM
Which achievement is that? If you're talking about brew of the month, everyone I know will have that completed 10/2009 not 10/2010
wowinsider Jan 22nd 2009 10:26AM
@nbcaffeine /slowclap?
Anybody that didn't research the achievement ahead of time will have to wait until October 2010 to get the drake no matter what they do. That sucks. I thought the point was for people to get into the various holiday events, not get them into it and then make them pointlessly wait for a year as beer gets doled to them a month at a time.
It should be taken out of the meta achievement for brewfest or changed to only require purchasing the membership.
Nathanyel Jan 22nd 2009 11:59AM
Nobody told you not to get the membership in '08, with the mounts moved to drops, there wasn't even a good way to spend all those tickets, except for pseudo-mounts, except the stuff you could've already gotten in '07.
If you didn't play then, that means you're rather new, but want to have everything to the game has to offer? bleh
Deadly. Off. Topic. Jan 22nd 2009 12:20PM
Didn't have to research it to know about it, people were talking about it everywhere. Too bad a lot of people don't like to listen when useful information is dropped like that.
The only class that got screwed out of that was the DK class.
Lemons Jan 22nd 2009 4:22PM
Wow, Deadly, pretty much everything you say is idiotic. I think if scientists cloned you but completely reversed your way of thinking they'd produce the smartest man in the world.
It's unfair because there was no way of knowing in game at the time that brew of the month club would be an achievement that takes a year to complete, so now the people that, for whatever reason, didn't sign up for the stupid club are going to have to wait an additional year for their proto drake even if they complete every other holiday achievement.
Also it might be noted that all the other holiday achievements can be completed within the length of the holiday event itself. The brew of the month club achievement is a cruel deviation from that trend.
tresser Jan 22nd 2009 9:24AM
meh. ever since they removed it from meta it doesn't mean as much.
Kolo Jan 22nd 2009 9:30AM
I'm more worried about the BG ones for Childrens Week, which are harder than the previous BG ones. I'm pretty sucky at PvP even though I enjoy it, and my class is not particularly the best to carry the EotS flag. I'm gonna have to beg the guild for Pre-mades and hope I get lucky with the WSG one too.
Shardrell Jan 22nd 2009 12:11PM
Yeah, this one is going to be a pain in the butt, and it's going to annoy the actual BGers with all us PvE noobs carrying orphans around the BGs. I should be able to get together with some buddies to get it done, though.
Neodarkmatter Jan 22nd 2009 9:31AM
Veteran Nanny is not a requirement for For the Children which is needed for the Violet Proto-Drake.
Neodarkmatter Jan 22nd 2009 9:33AM
Never mind. Mis-read the article.
JPN Jan 22nd 2009 9:34AM
I agree, the children's week PVP ones are so hard. Assault towers, graveyards, etc. And return a fallen flag in WSG? Yeesh....I expect that to get changed to either be dropped or require just 1/4
Gridneo Jan 22nd 2009 9:35AM
Um. You knew Achievements were being added to the game. You should have became a Brew of the Month member during Brewfest anyway. The Violet-Proto Drake is a reward for people who do the World Events, not for people who 'didn't know about what they had to do to get the Violet-Proto Drake'... Comeon. I don't have any sympathy for any of you that don't have the Brewfest stuff done. QQ.
@Neodarkmatter ... If you read the 2nd paragraph, Mike mentions you don't need it for the VPD. L2R.
Cela Jan 22nd 2009 9:42AM
I knew it was being added and got the brew of the month subscription, but the first brew isn't being counted as I drank it before the achievements came out. So I may just be screwed. :(
Arkangell Jan 22nd 2009 9:44AM
Actually, by your theory, the drake is a reward for people who researched achievements before they were implemented. You had to KNOW about the brewfest acheivement BEFORE they implemented them in order to get the drake in a year's time. The drake is a 'two-year' award for people who do the world events, it's a 'one-year' award for people who were either lucky enough to get the BOTM club because of dumb luck or for people who researched the achievements before they were implemented.
