Breakfast Topic: Get off the #%&$#^$ stone!

Now, it's no secret that a select portion of WoW's playerbase is comprised of people whom we might politely term "jerks," and the Naxx summoning stone is an almost unparalleled environment for them to practice their delightful skills. The stone is set on a very small ledge, servicing the summoning needs for a very popular instance, and no matter what the area was bound to be crowded. But the situation's made so much worse by the constant presence of players going /afk on top of the stone while conveniently perched on their largest or otherwise unnecessary mounts.
A number of people are temporarily on flying mounts once summoned because they were already on their way to the instance, and that's perfectly reasonable (the Troll Hunter in the foreground, for example, is one such innocent party). But mammoths? Why are so many people on ground mounts in front of Naxx's summoning stone? Why would you fly up to the stone on a giant dragon and then /afk leaving it endlessly flapping, guaranteeing that summons are 10 times the nuisance they have to be?
I'll tell you why -- to be a giant pain in the ass.
I'll grant that Naxx's entrance was really not designed to handle the level of traffic it typically starts seeing around 7:30 pm server time, and perhaps the stone would be more ideally situated somewhere below -- but there's something in me that rebels at the notion of Blizzard having to design (or re-design) around a lack of common courtesy.
So, "jerks" -- if you were waiting to hear it from someone, if that was indeed your design in parking yourself in an incredibly small area on a very large and/or constantly moving mount -- yes, that is a very pretty dragon and/or mammoth. I admire your skill as a player. I am awed by your ability to grind Sons of Hodir rep, or AoE down Culling of Stratholme, or amass 16,000 gold. We are all humbled by the presence of one so great as yourself, and sincerely grateful that you have chosen to grace us with your imposing and inspiring presence.
Now get the %#$$*# off the stone.

Okay, it isn't perfect nor likely to get implemented, but surely there is a work around for it...
But I totally agree with the sentiment that people would rarely if ever behave this way if you actually had to face the person you were acting like that toward... currently, there is no repercussion. That's the problem.

You suck!
I hope your life becomes strewn with people needlessly making your most basic actions and intents as frustrating as possible for their own personal amusement.

Damnit, my last comment was aimed at Dobmeister, i wish the reply function on this website didn't do that.... or i wish i'd stop doing what it is i do that does that. ;)

I haven't had any problems with trying to summon people but whenever I get near here, I always get some huge lag.
Why not make it so there is a portal below Naxx, that you can use to send yourself up to the stone, and a portal at the stone to send yourself back down. That way, they could make the area be mount restricted and the complaining will end.

Just be glad you aren't on a PvP server.
GO GO KNOCKBACKS!!!!
Wheeee... have fun with flying off of Naxx *splat*
Dan Jan 23rd 2009 8:24AM
I'd love to see a shaman use Thunderstorm up there on a PvP server.
Orestes Jan 23rd 2009 8:29AM
Even better, make MC work cross faction so I can throw assholes on boths sides to their deaths...
Orestes Jan 23rd 2009 8:32AM
err... inter faction that is.
Hildar Jan 23rd 2009 8:21AM
I know how to fix that. Roll on a pvp server, find a boomkin, fire mage, and a shaman. Have them hit Tidal wave, Blast wave, and Thunderstorm and watch the jerks fly out of Naxx. :)

TY for finally saying what many of us are thinking. And so very well put.
And while i'm commenting, might I say thank you to the jerk Tauren who thought it would be funny the other day to park his Mammoth mount 'ON TOP' of the Flight Master in Dalaran. Idiot...
Wistin Jan 23rd 2009 8:24AM
It is worse than just the mounts. On Silver Hand, we have people who flag up and run around the stone to trick others into pvping.
DrowVampyre Jan 23rd 2009 8:28AM
I've seen that a few times too. Now we just need an option (or a mod) to make it so you can't go into PvP unless you actually set it to PvP on (ie., flagged opponents aren't attackable until you intentionally flag yourself)...

lol, the sunwell dailies in the hay day.

Hey, how about actually GETTING TO THE PLACE BY YOURSELF, huh? Don't wait for a summon, move your legs. And don't hang out at the stone, sit inside Naxx. Yeah, I sound like Captain Obvious, but seems that some people just don't get it and are too lazy to get their damn asses to the instance at the right time.
Jorge Jan 23rd 2009 9:11AM
Because sometimes you need to summon someone mid-raid who is in let's say SW or UC? Or is in the middle of a BG?
That wasn't so obvious i guess, captain obvious...
Eversor Jan 23rd 2009 12:29PM
If you are going to a raid, you better be prepared, not mucking around somewhere. Unless you are doing pug raids, in which case, good luck, cause you will need it.
Unless very extreme cases, you should walk the walk, not wait lazily for a summon. I don't want lazy bastards who value their time over the group in my raid (yes, the summon might be faster, but just getting there is a some sign of decency and respect towards others, don't you think)?
Rob Jan 23rd 2009 8:26AM
Good post, i agree this is a problem. With warlock summoning not working properly, this is just a headache. Sure there are jerks and asshats out there, but the reality is the place is too small. Summon a 25 man raid and the place is jammed, let alone several such raids. The solution is to skip the stone, fly in, and zone in asap. But that isn't tidy.
Bodrake Jan 23rd 2009 8:27AM
Maybe Blizz could create an "exclusion zone" of 10 yards or so around the summoning stones, preventing mounts from getting any closer. Or just autodismount anyone within such a zone who goes AFK...
Hasteur Jan 23rd 2009 8:37AM
And how large is the Naxx landing platform... I'm betting is smaller than the 10 yard radius
BlueTiger Jan 23rd 2009 8:27AM
I have never had a summon to Naxx... being Ally on a high-Horde-population PvP-server - the area around Naxx's summoning stone is littered with corpses and covered with Hordes (Tauren mostly ofc). So my guild have a standing policy of Always Get Your Own Butt To Naxx!
