Breakfast Topic: Get off the #%&$#^$ stone!

Now, it's no secret that a select portion of WoW's playerbase is comprised of people whom we might politely term "jerks," and the Naxx summoning stone is an almost unparalleled environment for them to practice their delightful skills. The stone is set on a very small ledge, servicing the summoning needs for a very popular instance, and no matter what the area was bound to be crowded. But the situation's made so much worse by the constant presence of players going /afk on top of the stone while conveniently perched on their largest or otherwise unnecessary mounts.
A number of people are temporarily on flying mounts once summoned because they were already on their way to the instance, and that's perfectly reasonable (the Troll Hunter in the foreground, for example, is one such innocent party). But mammoths? Why are so many people on ground mounts in front of Naxx's summoning stone? Why would you fly up to the stone on a giant dragon and then /afk leaving it endlessly flapping, guaranteeing that summons are 10 times the nuisance they have to be?
I'll tell you why -- to be a giant pain in the ass.
I'll grant that Naxx's entrance was really not designed to handle the level of traffic it typically starts seeing around 7:30 pm server time, and perhaps the stone would be more ideally situated somewhere below -- but there's something in me that rebels at the notion of Blizzard having to design (or re-design) around a lack of common courtesy.
So, "jerks" -- if you were waiting to hear it from someone, if that was indeed your design in parking yourself in an incredibly small area on a very large and/or constantly moving mount -- yes, that is a very pretty dragon and/or mammoth. I admire your skill as a player. I am awed by your ability to grind Sons of Hodir rep, or AoE down Culling of Stratholme, or amass 16,000 gold. We are all humbled by the presence of one so great as yourself, and sincerely grateful that you have chosen to grace us with your imposing and inspiring presence.
Now get the %#$$*# off the stone.

These people are indeed the saddest of the sad. Real-life worthless wastes of skin with a propensity to use their actions to scream "Look at me! Look at me!" in a virtual world where no one gives a damn.
Guess what, children: You're still losers. Your annoyance just makes people wish you and your family endless amounts of harm.

Why wish their families harm?
Brandà Jan 23rd 2009 8:42AM
Because their DNA and/or social heritage is obviously dented?
rosencratz Jan 23rd 2009 8:50AM
Obviously how?
Surely wishing their families harm is as bad/worse than the crime of the jerks your condemning?

One day all of the horde in shatt on Nathrezim camped over ALL of the alliance portals. Seeing 40ish Netherdrakes blocking them and spamming "W R W T" was neato.

ppl use mammoth mounts at the summoning stone so they can repair.
The 20K gold mount includes a repairing NPC.

Know what's worse then camping the stone? Two words...
Org Mailbox.
qoa Jan 23rd 2009 8:34AM
Aim for the bottom of the post. Zoom in first person. Go to the drag mailbox.

I feel your pain. Another big problem is people mounting and standing on the flightmasters in Dalaran. At least five or six people mount up and /afk right on the node.

ha! try running naxx on a pvp server. you think its a nuisance that people afk in front of the stone? how about the stone camped (we call it held, as though it were a point in arathi basin) by the alliance all freaking night. if youre not camped at the stone, youre knocked off the platform by the plethora of ele shammies around.
most nights everyone must either fly to the instance, or we play it old school and have locks fill up on shards to summon people from inside the instance.
before we could summon people inside instances, it was not quite a rare night when we would actually have to cancel ssc or (way back when) kara because the majority of the raid literally could not make it into the instance for 2 hours after the scheduled start of the raid.

newbies:
step1: get close to object being covered.
step 2: zoom all the way in...... wow! magic! now your inside the person covering the stone/npc/mailbox/etc
step 3: ???
step 4: profit!
problem solved. The first time I saw this, took me thirty seconds to figure out how to defeat it...
rosencratz Jan 23rd 2009 8:39AM
Well done you! thirty secons... that could be a record!
Everyone knows ways to get round it mate, that's not what makes it frustrating...
Jon Do Jan 23rd 2009 8:35AM
Yep, I always have a stack of baby spice on me.
Blizzard could make it like Nexus, with mobs spawning around the stone. (The Nexus stone was also not working for last night; worked early in the evening, but not later.)
I agree that it's sad that Blizzard needs to design around people who lack common courtesy. On the other hand, Blizzard knows about this sort of problem, and by now should be part of their design plan to prevent this sort of issue.
Another solution would be to put patrolling guards near the stone that rough you up if you loiter.
"Move along..."

I've never had a problem using the stone, but I do recall myself and other fishers getting grieved by other players jumping on our bobbers while trying to fish out of the Dalaran fountain.
It never ceases to amaze me how some people can be such absolute assholes to complete strangers.
rosencratz Jan 23rd 2009 8:36AM
And if it's the Ice mammoth? the black mammoth?
Why can't your guild fly to the nearby town, less than a minutes ride away?
That's a poor excuse, you don't need to stand ON the summoning stone to use that mount for repairs. Your guild might do these repairs honestly and away from the stone but clearly then these complaints don't apply to you.
ava Jan 23rd 2009 8:46AM
I've found in good raiding that you come prepared fully quipped with 100% durability. and If they wipe...well...you rez in hearthglen and i think if you move left about 20 feet there is a repair guy. Then again, we can't see how much of a life you don't have farming 18,999g.
rosencratz Jan 23rd 2009 9:10AM
"Then again, we can't see how much of a life you don't have farming 18,999g."
Be nice now.
I plan on getting myself one of those traveller mammoths. I take offense to people who claim that owning one somehow indicates a lack of life. I've been level 80 since two weeks after release now and haven't bought it yet, just saving up. I've been on a cruise in the Caribean with my girlfriend for over two weeks and worked abroad in Australia for over twoweeks too as well as socialising as normal... am i not allowed to buy the mount due to some innacurate stigma attached to it?
Tondef Jan 23rd 2009 8:39AM
I agree with others that some spots need to be "indoor" zone areas.
1. mailboxs
2. summoning stones
3. special event areas (thinking of the bear rider that parked under the tree at Winterveil to keep folks from getting to the gifts)
