Breakfast Topic: Get off the #%&$#^$ stone!

Now, it's no secret that a select portion of WoW's playerbase is comprised of people whom we might politely term "jerks," and the Naxx summoning stone is an almost unparalleled environment for them to practice their delightful skills. The stone is set on a very small ledge, servicing the summoning needs for a very popular instance, and no matter what the area was bound to be crowded. But the situation's made so much worse by the constant presence of players going /afk on top of the stone while conveniently perched on their largest or otherwise unnecessary mounts.
A number of people are temporarily on flying mounts once summoned because they were already on their way to the instance, and that's perfectly reasonable (the Troll Hunter in the foreground, for example, is one such innocent party). But mammoths? Why are so many people on ground mounts in front of Naxx's summoning stone? Why would you fly up to the stone on a giant dragon and then /afk leaving it endlessly flapping, guaranteeing that summons are 10 times the nuisance they have to be?
I'll tell you why -- to be a giant pain in the ass.
I'll grant that Naxx's entrance was really not designed to handle the level of traffic it typically starts seeing around 7:30 pm server time, and perhaps the stone would be more ideally situated somewhere below -- but there's something in me that rebels at the notion of Blizzard having to design (or re-design) around a lack of common courtesy.
So, "jerks" -- if you were waiting to hear it from someone, if that was indeed your design in parking yourself in an incredibly small area on a very large and/or constantly moving mount -- yes, that is a very pretty dragon and/or mammoth. I admire your skill as a player. I am awed by your ability to grind Sons of Hodir rep, or AoE down Culling of Stratholme, or amass 16,000 gold. We are all humbled by the presence of one so great as yourself, and sincerely grateful that you have chosen to grace us with your imposing and inspiring presence.
Now get the %#$$*# off the stone.

This has to be one of the most annoying aspects of WoW, and "jerks" is way to polite of a term for the total morons who somehow derive pleasure in their asinine attempts at ruining everyone else's experience. As egregious as this problem is I am still surprised that Blizz has basically ignored it up to this point. There are a lot of potential solutions out there, one of which needs to be implemented asap.

That summoning stone was glitched last night on Bladefist server. No one was able to use it. You could click and it looked like things worked but the other party never recieved the summons. There were multiple groups having the problem, so it wasn't just our group.

Get of the f!!!!!g mount...no one is impressed by any of the mounts atm, they are all fairly common and easy to get...given time.
It's just plain idiotic epeen rudeness with LaZorS!

It's so bad that I actually feel claustrophobic at the summoning stone for Naxx. My guild was having fun using Baby Spice on people this past week. It was a surefire way to separate the jerks from the AFKers. The jerks would immediately click it off.
Frankly, I LOVE how the entrance looks.. Very cool. But the crowds are horrible. I would say it is time for a redesign.. Put the swirlies where we fly in with a hovering platform underneath Naxx so we can jump out.. land on the platform.. mount and fly away safely. I see no reason why we can't switch things up and have the summoning stone INSIDE for once...

Yes they are being complete jerks and stop trying to defend them by saying they are pointing a problems out. They aren't doing that and you know it. Just like the guy who comes up and steals your target you just taunted (prepatch) wasnt trying to point out a problem with the tagin system. They are thinking of themselves, and trying to be a huge pain in the ass to everyone. These are the same people who enjoyed the scourge invasion infection crap they came out with just cuz they could terrorize other players. And I am sorry, but a lock is not always in the party , and as you know out of 25 or even 10 people, someoe always has to hit the AH for something before a raid. It needs to be fixed because the jerks WONT stop being jerks, and are not in the game for the reason people go to this site... just add another portal ont he outside of the room that can be flown through... that way only other party members will be at the stone . Nice and simple.

how about if you're afk Naxx itself sucks you into a random wing?
Schaap Jan 23rd 2009 8:49AM
The solution is easy imo: Place the summoning stone INSIDE the instance.
sliq Jan 23rd 2009 10:54AM
Simply zoom into your toons 1st person view and walk through the people. You should be able to see the stone that way. Especially where people crowd it sooooo close they actually overlap into the stone a bit
Sarkas11 Jan 23rd 2009 8:59AM
They should simply add a floating platform about 30 feet below Naxx that is 100' x 100' (with similar design etc.), and the stone right in the middle of it. Within 20' of the stone you get dismounted. Plenty of room to hang out, re-mount if you need to, and after summoning your party you fly up to the entrance.
Still meets the requirements for needing to fly and keeps people from grouping at the stone. Of course, this would entail some design\time for programming.

ATTEMPTS TO SUMMON PEOPLE MAKE THIS A HARD GAME.
Naxx is the easy part, now this is the challenge!
pringle Jan 23rd 2009 9:00AM
Hey I only stand where the other faction is trying to summon... It's all part of the fun between alliance and horde.
Fix my summon so I can step inside and summon the rest of the slackers...
Siorra Jan 23rd 2009 9:01AM
What gets me is the dude on the red Dragonhawk in the pic. That was quick. (And I am aware it's just a case of money, it's still damned trickey to get).
Chipsky Jan 23rd 2009 9:03AM
I have stacks of baby spice for this problem... pisses them off too, top spin volley their inferiority complex back into their court.
Prunk Jan 23rd 2009 9:04AM
In my server, as there are like 67% alliance, the stone is awalys crowded with alliance and they keep ganking horde players who want to enter Naxx....it just sucks, you need to enter Naxx to avoid getting killed and wait for some of them get out so you can safely summon your friends....=/
The same thing happens in The Nexus stone, full of alliance gankers....

personally i think that all major cities in azeroth should be no-mount zones as this would seriously ct back on lagg caused in those places and mean tat access to NPCs would not be blocked by the silly great mounts (Eleks, Mammoth,Chopper). this would make it a lot more enjoyable for lower levels to go about their business.
danawhitaker Jan 23rd 2009 12:08PM
The only problems I ever have in cities involve people, not mounts. Like the Stormwind Auction House where there's always some jerk standing on top of the auctioneers (which is inside, and thus, cannot have mounts anyway or the Stormwind Bank, where 800 people crowd around one bank window). Forcing all major cities to be non-mounted zones would be utterly frustrating for those of us who know how to responsibly use our mounts, especially since the majority of the things that people crowd around (AH, vaults) are in areas where you can't be mounted anyway. It *is* that much slower to run around a large city on foot when you can be mounted instead. A mount is the only thing that makes Exodar and Darnassus tolerable to me. We should find a way to punish the people who do this, not punish everyone for the behavior of a few. I can't think of a good solution to mailboxes, as they're typically in areas where mounts can crowd them, but that's a small price to pay, in my opinion, for the freedom to ride my mount around a city and get my business done that much faster.
Feador Jan 23rd 2009 9:04AM
Blizz, just put summoning stones INSIDE instances.
Barnister Jan 23rd 2009 9:04AM
Cool idea....need to tell my "jerk" tauren friends to do this on their traveller mammoths.
Berni Jan 23rd 2009 9:09AM
Level up a Druid in a PVP realm, and BAMMM - you got all the space you need ;-D
