Breakfast Topic: Get off the #%&$#^$ stone!

Now, it's no secret that a select portion of WoW's playerbase is comprised of people whom we might politely term "jerks," and the Naxx summoning stone is an almost unparalleled environment for them to practice their delightful skills. The stone is set on a very small ledge, servicing the summoning needs for a very popular instance, and no matter what the area was bound to be crowded. But the situation's made so much worse by the constant presence of players going /afk on top of the stone while conveniently perched on their largest or otherwise unnecessary mounts.
A number of people are temporarily on flying mounts once summoned because they were already on their way to the instance, and that's perfectly reasonable (the Troll Hunter in the foreground, for example, is one such innocent party). But mammoths? Why are so many people on ground mounts in front of Naxx's summoning stone? Why would you fly up to the stone on a giant dragon and then /afk leaving it endlessly flapping, guaranteeing that summons are 10 times the nuisance they have to be?
I'll tell you why -- to be a giant pain in the ass.
I'll grant that Naxx's entrance was really not designed to handle the level of traffic it typically starts seeing around 7:30 pm server time, and perhaps the stone would be more ideally situated somewhere below -- but there's something in me that rebels at the notion of Blizzard having to design (or re-design) around a lack of common courtesy.
So, "jerks" -- if you were waiting to hear it from someone, if that was indeed your design in parking yourself in an incredibly small area on a very large and/or constantly moving mount -- yes, that is a very pretty dragon and/or mammoth. I admire your skill as a player. I am awed by your ability to grind Sons of Hodir rep, or AoE down Culling of Stratholme, or amass 16,000 gold. We are all humbled by the presence of one so great as yourself, and sincerely grateful that you have chosen to grace us with your imposing and inspiring presence.
Now get the %#$$*# off the stone.

I admit, seeing people get knocked off of Naxx is quite hilarious....unless it happens to you.
If I have to sit out at the stone for any reason, I make sure to equip my parachute cloak.

Lot of epeens floating up there. Nothing like raiders to show you ftards aplenty. Almost as bad as guildies not moving out of the portal on thier flyer so you can second it.

I find the BIG mounts a pain when ppl park them on the mailbox, and just laught when all around nicely ask plz move it.
Same when they are 2-3 in fontain in Dalaran when ppl try to fish.

The situation annoys me too, saying that, I have a tundra mammoth and always go out to the summoning stone on it when we've cleared one section so my guildies can repair and stock up . I do, however, know that large mounts are a pain, so position myself out of the way of the stone so everyone has access to it without my big elephant butt getting in the way.
Perhaps adding 4 elongated small lobbies to the entrances where one can mount up and dismount and making the area around the summoning stone unmountable might be the solution.

You must have been on Azuremyst last night! Some idiot kept following me around on his mammoth to prevent me from summoning the rest of our raid group. I mean grow up!!! First time "might" be funny, but following someone around is just stupid!!!!
They could use a auto-dismount area (5-8 yards). That would be helpful!

I never could understand why Naxx was smaller than Ebon Hold, when the interior is so much larger! If they increased the size of Naxx, made that platform wider, they probably could use some design on the floor to indicate flight safe areas and an indoor area. Maybe some sort of circular pattern around the stone. A larger platform should offer plenty of space for both groups.
Then you'd be able to mount along the outer edge and it would help keep the center a little more open.

Then there are the ones who not only stand in your way, but follow you around the stone as you try to find an open space and purposely sit on your summing circle so no one else can click it, and continue to do so everytime you try to resituate yourself...

Gee if thats all you have to worry about then you have no worries. Try a PVP server when a 25 man of the opposing faction is at the stone you cant even fly in let alone summon with out getting killed. Usually ill try to fly in get feared or pushed back effectively dismounting me then dead.
Tbah Jan 23rd 2009 9:51AM
Just take the stone down to ground, maybe somewhere near the GY, and give back the original Naxx portal-ziggurat.
And btw summoning stone inside instances... fail. Imagine the amount of 'OOPS!' moments when the raid leader forgot to change to heroic/normal mode and you (and anyone you already summoned) got saved to his already cleared raid etc etc. It's bad enough as is but forcing ppl to enter to summon would make it disasterous in a short time.

The last 5 times i've been to orgrimmar some jerkoff is standing over the bank's mailbox on a mammoth.
Ennethar Jan 24th 2009 3:46PM
All blizzard has to do is make that summoning stone area a no fly/no mount zone. You land in there and within 5 seconds you will dismount. In order to remount again you have to be standing near the exit ledge. Problem solved. Morons defeated once again!

mammoth repairs your gear
Xsy Jan 23rd 2009 10:25AM
Honestly... there is no better way to spend your time before a raid then mounting up and listening to the rest of the server scream obscenities at you.

We've done it a couple times and it's always been entertaining. That and Ironforge mailbox raids.
Batleth Jan 23rd 2009 10:14AM
Could the Naxx summoning area be a little bigger? Sure it could. But due to the fact that it's actually NOT bigger should be enough of a prompt to players that being a $!@#!! isn't cool.
The same principle can be applied to the Dalaran fountain. It's too small. The last thing I want to see is 3 or 4 $!@#!@# riding their freakin' mammoths into the middle of the pool, making it virtually impossible to see the fishing bobber. It's a courtesy thing...it's a shame that that small percentage of WoW players get off on being idiots.
Lewthor Jan 23rd 2009 3:06PM
How about, just make mounts an instant cast/click so you can just jump off and hop on your bird/dragon whatever while falling? Then you could make the area a no mount inside zone and all the jerks that like to cover the stone up will have to come up with another plan of attack.
Arras Jan 23rd 2009 10:18AM
an aptly named guild on my server, delights in parking as many of their mammoth mounts + winterfall firewater + whatever other size increasing buffs they can get their hands on right on top of mailboxes, summoning stones, NPCs, etc.
They don't go afk, though. That would rob them of the chance to see how many people they're annoying and taunt them
Xsy Jan 23rd 2009 10:38AM
You must be from Whisperwind.
Kothmia Jan 23rd 2009 10:24AM
We had a similar issue with people being asshats on the Dalaran Flight Master last night. Although, I will be keeping the baby spice thing in mind...
Devarin Jan 23rd 2009 10:40AM
The point of the post was for people to try and be more courteous, not how to use the summoning stone when blocked. It's unfortunate that people need so much attention by doing childish acts such as this.

hehe, I fell the other night in an mixed bag of lag and trying to be courteous... totally got my "Going Down" achievement.. took absolutely no fall damage.
