Breakfast Topic: Get off the #%&$#^$ stone!

Now, it's no secret that a select portion of WoW's playerbase is comprised of people whom we might politely term "jerks," and the Naxx summoning stone is an almost unparalleled environment for them to practice their delightful skills. The stone is set on a very small ledge, servicing the summoning needs for a very popular instance, and no matter what the area was bound to be crowded. But the situation's made so much worse by the constant presence of players going /afk on top of the stone while conveniently perched on their largest or otherwise unnecessary mounts.
A number of people are temporarily on flying mounts once summoned because they were already on their way to the instance, and that's perfectly reasonable (the Troll Hunter in the foreground, for example, is one such innocent party). But mammoths? Why are so many people on ground mounts in front of Naxx's summoning stone? Why would you fly up to the stone on a giant dragon and then /afk leaving it endlessly flapping, guaranteeing that summons are 10 times the nuisance they have to be?
I'll tell you why -- to be a giant pain in the ass.
I'll grant that Naxx's entrance was really not designed to handle the level of traffic it typically starts seeing around 7:30 pm server time, and perhaps the stone would be more ideally situated somewhere below -- but there's something in me that rebels at the notion of Blizzard having to design (or re-design) around a lack of common courtesy.
So, "jerks" -- if you were waiting to hear it from someone, if that was indeed your design in parking yourself in an incredibly small area on a very large and/or constantly moving mount -- yes, that is a very pretty dragon and/or mammoth. I admire your skill as a player. I am awed by your ability to grind Sons of Hodir rep, or AoE down Culling of Stratholme, or amass 16,000 gold. We are all humbled by the presence of one so great as yourself, and sincerely grateful that you have chosen to grace us with your imposing and inspiring presence.
Now get the %#$$*# off the stone.

Baby spice doesn't help if they are NOT afk & actively being a-holes. On Whisperwind, the entire guild "Failure" seems to consist of annoying little punks with nothing better to do than try to cover the mailboxes in IF and fill the fountain in Dalaran with their mammoth a-hole-ness. They will happily sit there and click off the baby spice debuff for, literally, hours.
Blizzard needs to do SOMETHING about this. Changing the Naxx summoning stone size or position doesn't address the problem -- it merely denies the jerks one location for their griefing. There are many mailboxes in the world (but really, if you're using the AH in IF, should you have to run/fly elsewhere just because there are juvenile idiots around) but there is only one very small Dalaran fountain. Isn't the life of fishermen trying enough??

We started by blocking a mailbox and the out lash was absolutely startling. Hundreds of low level alts upset because they had to side step a mammoth to get their mail.
We made a lot of people angry but quickly got a few fans as well. Before long we weren't the only guild blocking on the server. We inspired others. I honestly figured our recruitment would suffer but we've picked up multiple people just because they thought it was hysterical.
There was a thread started on our forums that's worth a read for anyone truly bored. http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=13723442723&sid=1
The funniest side effect of this whole thing is when one of our members tries to use a summoning stone or mailbox, people will mount up and try blocking them now.

MC'ing people off the edges to their deaths tend to make ppl stop crowding the stone.
The funny thing is, my server isn't even a PvP server.

For Pre-BC Naxx, you teleported up from the ground by stepping onto a runic circle. We wouldn't have as many issues with summoning if they had left that the way it was (aside from moving it to Dragonblight). Also, the size of Naxx suggests that Kel'Thuzad may have acquired Time Lord technology.

It's not as bad as people parking their big mammoth butts in the Dalaran fountain. But eh...that's what the report feature is for.

I think if they do an auto-dismount. they also need to do parachutes due to lag, but that is neither here nor there for me.
What i've noticed on my server is that 90% of the griefers are horde. Tauren are the worst.
The try to block the stones, park their mammoths at the fountain and at anything else they can. I now refer to horde as hordiots as atleast on my server they are total asses.
What is suprising is that they don't just grief alliance, they grief other hordiots too! go figure *shrug*
AyaJulia Jan 23rd 2009 12:13PM
1- Us "Hordiots" usually find that the Alliance is just as awful for griefing.
2- Anyone who griefs their own faction as well as the opposite faction is clearly not representing their faction; this should be obvious.
When will people realize that the two factions are composed of the same basic playerbase? :\

If people would just think before the /afk and fly up a few feet it would be fine. And we all know they wont. They've been doing it since game release, its really bad at the BG masters. Helicopters are the worst >.

Baby Spice is a good idea, but I think they should make the outside of Naxx there dismount you. ;) Problem solved. Though, then I wouldn't be able to annoy people on my proto-drake.
Mr Lee Jan 23rd 2009 11:01AM
Aww, now you all with you hadn't bitched about Warlocks so much so someone still played the class and you could get a summon right into the instance :)

Put the stone inside the instance . . . .

these r the same individuals that gank lowbies and folks who wave and leave them alone to get about their business of dailies, questing etc., in otherwords we let them play the game without causing them undue frustration. now, in 2 yrs of play, i have found that horde and allies alike have courteous and even friendly players and the other way round as well. for instance the ally(my faction)player who takes a mineral node that i am in process of clearing mobs from and says on screen "pwned";what an ass. or the horde who ganks and camps for hours....both,clearly displaying a rl psychopathic personality, of whom should be shot on sight to save the rest of the world their crap.

On a pvp server, Naxx is not the problem... mailboxes are.
Everyday, some a**hat sits with his travelers tundra mount on top of the main mailbox by the bank. I've often seen TWO people there. The closest mailbox to there is very far away.
A tauren on a travelers tundra or on a war mammoth is just too big and can cover up almost the entire mailbox - you have to zoom in and keep moving the cursor till you see a tiny sliver of an envelope- and two mammoths cover it up entirely.
Something needs to be done about this, and fast, it's getting out of control.
Pixiedark Jan 23rd 2009 11:38AM
WTB Auto-Dismount when anyone is within the green circle surrounding the stone. Still leaves room to mount up to leave, but it would make summoning a lot easier.
Xigageshi Jan 23rd 2009 11:37AM
what if the summoning stones could just shoot AFK players and insta-gib them?
like those eyes in legend of zelda, THAT would solve this adorable problem in a heart beat!
could give it a little Debuff too, just to warn people..
"Warning: you are AFK and about to be pewpew'd by the stone."
michel Jan 23rd 2009 11:39AM
so not the point, from the bits I bothered to read. Point is, don't be a tool. Is that hard?
Buhlonee Jan 23rd 2009 11:42AM
they need one of those number boxes, you know, "Now serving number 678,422,343,456.3"
miyazana Jan 23rd 2009 11:44AM
there will always be that guy. ALWAYS. from trying to turn in quest, pick up father christmases gift, and now hearth stones. They are too cool to just summon and go, they are too cool to get off their mounts. baby spice is a great idea, there probably highschool kids who shouldent stay up so late to raid anyway.
bob Jan 23rd 2009 11:51AM
Why do mounts get summoned in the first place? You should be dismounted during the summons. Then, all stones should have a "no mount" area immediately around them. This would help at all stones. Too often, I've seen jerks that were summoned on foot, then mounted just to be a pain. This also goes for Battlemasters (Alterac Valley in Shatt a classic example).
For Naxx it would be best just to move the stone to the ground. That didn't stop us from going to Mech, etc.
