Breakfast Topic: Get off the #%&$#^$ stone!

Now, it's no secret that a select portion of WoW's playerbase is comprised of people whom we might politely term "jerks," and the Naxx summoning stone is an almost unparalleled environment for them to practice their delightful skills. The stone is set on a very small ledge, servicing the summoning needs for a very popular instance, and no matter what the area was bound to be crowded. But the situation's made so much worse by the constant presence of players going /afk on top of the stone while conveniently perched on their largest or otherwise unnecessary mounts.
A number of people are temporarily on flying mounts once summoned because they were already on their way to the instance, and that's perfectly reasonable (the Troll Hunter in the foreground, for example, is one such innocent party). But mammoths? Why are so many people on ground mounts in front of Naxx's summoning stone? Why would you fly up to the stone on a giant dragon and then /afk leaving it endlessly flapping, guaranteeing that summons are 10 times the nuisance they have to be?
I'll tell you why -- to be a giant pain in the ass.
I'll grant that Naxx's entrance was really not designed to handle the level of traffic it typically starts seeing around 7:30 pm server time, and perhaps the stone would be more ideally situated somewhere below -- but there's something in me that rebels at the notion of Blizzard having to design (or re-design) around a lack of common courtesy.
So, "jerks" -- if you were waiting to hear it from someone, if that was indeed your design in parking yourself in an incredibly small area on a very large and/or constantly moving mount -- yes, that is a very pretty dragon and/or mammoth. I admire your skill as a player. I am awed by your ability to grind Sons of Hodir rep, or AoE down Culling of Stratholme, or amass 16,000 gold. We are all humbled by the presence of one so great as yourself, and sincerely grateful that you have chosen to grace us with your imposing and inspiring presence.
Now get the %#$$*# off the stone.

This reminds me of a time on the Ilse of Quel'Danas (spelling? I think thats right) where I went to turn in a quest, but someone who was AFK on a Kodo (the Tauren mount) was literally standing in the same spot as the quest giver, so it was impossible for me to click on the QG. The cursor kept turning into a dagger to attack him.

A little off topic, but related jerk behaviour.
Gotta hate those mages that create a Teleport portal right in front of the Dalaran-Wintergrasp portal just before the match.

One of the less interesting things about 3d models is that they are hollow. Zoom in on your character until its in 1st person view. Walk into the mammoths buttocks. BOOM.. there's the stone/portal/mailbox/gnome.
Rage Jan 23rd 2009 12:35PM
Just make it a non-combat zone, like in Dalran.
Problem solved.
croe Jan 23rd 2009 12:50PM
Yep, there are jerks, though such things can be done accidentaly. However, the stone is not the only place such things occur.
Another point is the Dalaran Flight Master where the occassional toon deliberately parks his larges mount right over him so no one can get a flight out.
Or morons going into the Dalaran fountain while people are fishing up coins, in order to block their catches.
Sadly, there's no way to report or retaliate, save hitting them with some baby spice.
I guess all you can do is note their names and never group or trade with them in any way.

Man, I -wish- the summoning stones I frequent were just covered with players on huge mounts. At least then you can actually use the stone without -dying-. 90% of the time when I try to use a summoning stone in Northrend there's half a party of opposite faction level 80s sitting around it ganking me and every member of my group that tries to get close. Forget no mount zones, Blizzard needs to make the areas around summoning stones sanctuaries. *grumble*

This doesn't happen on my server since we're a pvp server. If you go afk out there at peak hours, you'll come back to find your corpse splattered on the ground a mile below after a mage, shammy, or druid knocks you off (or a tenacious dk that pulls you off then gets slowfall cast on him by a mage). Rather than people covering the stone, battles for control of the stone are what dictate how quickly you can summon everyone.
Rage Jan 23rd 2009 1:11PM
If Mammoths had mailbox's I would never go to Towns anymore. Probably a great way to reduce lag!
Rage Jan 23rd 2009 1:13PM
Bliz give Traveler's Tundra Mammoth's a mailbox Plzzzzzzzzzz...
Zenzenhina Jan 23rd 2009 1:33PM
Nothing better than getting a DK friend to Death Grip someone flagged to the edge, as I flag and thunderstorm them off XD.

Not only are these asshats the worst but the placement of the stone itself is TERRIBLE.. ok I get we we need to fly to get INTO naxx.. i can understand THAT! BUT do we need to fly to get to the stone? I really dont think so. it creates TONS of lag that doesn't help the summoner or the summonie at all when people with more important things to do then just stand there try to summon.
and if the argument is that players who don't have flying skill or mounts can get in there then i say screw them, they shouldn't be raiding if they don't have the gold for those things. idiots should be FARMING. and i don't even mean they need to farm the EPIC FLYING/MOUNTS, regular skill works just fine! if they don't have the cash for that then they seriously wont have the cash to repair all their broken epics their about to get.. seriously blizzard GET REAL..
on another note to answer the question i think most of the people on ground mounts were summoned while mounted. But also that's not always the case cause I've seen more then a few people mount up just for giggles.. screw them.. and while we're on it screw the people who love to get mounted and then kiss Mojo and make the size of their mount go all screwy CAUSE THAT HELPS US ALL!..
idk, the entrance to Naxx was fine on the ground in EPL, the stone could be fine there also, this needs to be changed...
Punkenjoy Jan 23rd 2009 2:32PM
The best solution to all this "issue" is simple at my opinion
Make ppl near the stone/mailbox/repair guy/etc translucid and uncliquable
Yes if you want to trade something to someone, you will need to have it it your party, or typing /trade, or just step back a little bit, but that's not a big deal.
Problem solved

Has anyone tried to use up all their rested EXP on an alt? I've got an alt at full rested, and I just spent the last 2 levels fully rested.
I've even taken time to stop doing quests and just grind mobs, sure it uses up my rested but it seems to go really slow.
I've figured that at around 1900 exp per mob w/rested I'd have to kill nearly 860 mobs just to consume all of my rested exp.
I know I can use this to my advantage and level much quicker (right?) Anyone have suggestions?
jbodar Jan 23rd 2009 7:14PM
Pssst, this isn't The Queue. It's Breakfast Topic about mounts and the d-bags who park them on things.
http://www.wowinsider.com/category/the-queue/
Also, why would you want to "use up" your rested XP? Do you not like getting double XP from mobs? Not a lot of sense there.
jurandr Jan 23rd 2009 5:03PM
slow news day, eh?
But yeah, it's a problem. They should make the summoning stone a phase place where you can only see raid members. No instance, just phase.
jbodar Jan 23rd 2009 7:18PM
Uhhh, hello, it's a Breakfast Topic. Welcome to the point.
http://www.wowinsider.com/tag/breakfast-topic/
Show me the ones that are "serious business", please. Is it the one about the oldest WoW player you know? Or the one about the phattest Northrend loot?
jurandr Jan 24th 2009 10:21PM
Sorry, Jbodar, that a single line of text offended you in such a way that you were forced to reply to me in such a rude sarcastic manner.
I'm the kind of guy that takes care of all his internet business all at once as soon as possible and then goes off to do whatever else. For about a half hour each evening, I pull open wowinsider, personal email, work email, guild forums, read the latest in a theorycrafting thread or two, glance through four or five rss feeds (an IT professional has to stay up to date, after all) and check the status on a couple shipping orders.
Then I go play WoW for a few hours, and go to bed.
I apologize sincerely that I made a simple mistake through and it sent you over the edge. I am sorry that a single line of text forced you to gloss over another two lines of what I thought was a half-decent comment. I say half-decent because I didn't bother to elaborate my point and put together a convincing argument that I could possibly bring into the suggestions forum or something like that.
Perhaps you would like to welcome yourself to the point of my original comment. You know, the other 2/3 of it.
jbodar Jan 25th 2009 6:13AM
Fair enough, I did go a bit overboard and it came off less jovially than I intended. I'm the guy of guy who's man enough to apologize for that, especially to a fellow IT Warrior.
jbodar Jan 25th 2009 6:15AM
And for the record, I did read the rest of the post, and I recall thinking that part wasn't half bad. ;)
MDrules Jan 23rd 2009 5:07PM
Nice, me and a co-worker were commenting on this problem the other day with NPCs/mailboxes/FP. I suggested a /push to push ppl out of the way. I realize that this could be exploited in game but it would teach those ppl a lesson stand around in the way.
