Phat Loot Phriday: Mallet of Zul'Farrak

Name: Mallet of Zul'Farrak (Wowhead, Thottbot, Armory)
Type:
Damage/Speed: 58-109 / 2.50 (33.4 DPS)
Abilities:
- +8 Strength, +8 Stamina
- Yes, this is the legendary Mallet of Zul'Farrak, the one you had to fight all the way up to the top of Jintha'alor to get in order to summon Gahz'rilla in the midlevel instance of Zul'Farrak down in Tanaris. But as of patch 3.0.8, this mallet, and a few other items, are now not necessary any more. Still, instead of deleting them completely, Blizzard decided to turn them into real items, much like Pinocchio was turned into a "real boy!"
- Plus, they used a pretty awesome model, too, especially if, like me, you're a fan of the Troll aesthetic. Pretty nice weapon for a one-handed mace at level 35, even if it's a pain to actually get.
How to Get It: Chances are you already have it -- if you've ever gotten the Mallet before, you can look through your bags and you'll now find the updated version.
But if you're leveling up an alt and think it would go perfect with your twink gear, you've got a nice long road ahead of you. And it leads to the Hinterlands (where, you'll note, even though this mace is level 35, the mobs are much higher than that, so bring a friend). First, hit up the Altar of Zul there, and kill a mob named Qiaga the Keeper for an item called the Sacred Mallet. Then, you'll need to reach the top of Jintha'alor, also in the Hinterlands. It won't be as hard as it used to be -- the mobs aren't elite any more -- but like I said, if you're trying to do this at level 35, it'll be tough unless you have a friend or two with you. Reach the altar at the top of the mountain, use the Sacred Mallet, and the Mallet of Zul'Farrak is yours.
Getting Rid of It: It's too bad they didn't make this an heirloom item automatically, as it would have been a nice one to pass back down through the generations. But you can sell it back to vendors for 2g 68s 73c, or disenchant it into a Large Radiant Shard.

Heriloom would be awesome. It's only usefull around lvl 35 but few people will bother friends and guildies to help them get it. Most people won't even come across unless by accident.

The model is that of Jin'do's Hexxer, every Paladin's favorite entry-level weapon back in the day (though some may consider Jin'do the Hexxer a tougher fight than most in MC, including Golemagg who drops the Azuresong Mageblade)

They turned into real items?!
And I deleted all of mine before the patch hit thinking they'd be good for nothing. :(

If you contact a GM, and inform them of what you did, they may be willing to restore it for you.

I did the contrary.. I'm a miser of sorts.
My surprise came with the Urn for Nightbane. We were havin' some fun in KZ when I realized i left the urn in the bank. I jumped back, and as I returned to KZ, I came to notice the Urn is now a Grey class item. they have an Urn on the terrace for keyed players to summon with.
/shrug who knew?

oh man, all my mains had their Mallets. It was just sort of expected, I guess. You get the mallet.

Seriously, this and the scepter of cerebras (sp?) would have been great as heirloom items. Considering the whole reason I kept them around was to help get gear for alts or more exactly, friends alts it would have been a nice gesture by Blizz.

An item level 50 item usable at 35? Sounds like a twink item to me.

I just checked mine. It had 0/90 durability. Wtf it was sitting in the bank.

I was so proud of myself for soloing everything to get this. And I helped so many people after me do bits and pieces of this quest. Now, i have a mace that, as a hunter, I can't use. I couldn't bring myself to sell it, however. I've got a few things like that which are really useless, the riding crop, for instance. But, I'm going to keep them because they represent a different time in my WOW history.
Joroy, it seems to be what happened when the mallet was turned into a mace. I haven't found anyone whose mallet didn't need repair. I haven't used mine in about 3 months, either, but it needed 93s in repairs.

i cant dischant my mace and the vendors dont want that item . i keep it for long time just for those times when u have to run guildies trough zf but now is really useless

I tried to vendor mine, and guess what...they didn't want it..lol

More wow dumbing down. When are Hunters going to be able to go quiverless? When will soul shards be stackble to 100 or not needed at all? When will shammies get an all in one totem? When will flight paths be straight shots to your destination instead of lazy over flys? When will Warrior and Pallie buffs last 30 minutes or an hour like everyone else?
Derick Jan 24th 2009 2:17PM
when will people stop whining about change?
Matt Jan 26th 2009 11:20AM
Shamans do only need one totem now if they have the one that goes into the relic/libram slot.

I tried running my wife through ZF post 3.08 and it still wouldn't let me summon Gahz'rilla without the mace. I wonder if it was actually implemented or not.

Too bad they have a gold value, but the vendors won't take it.
