Realms now online after emergency maintenance
I mentioned it in an update to the previous post on today's emergency maintenance, but for the convenience of those of you following by RSS (or simply missed the update): Most realms are back online, and have slowly been coming up for the last 10-15 minutes or so.The emergency maintenance ran a little over the given estimate, but not terrible so. The four hour maintenance lasted for about four hours and forty minutes, which is certainly an annoyance, but here's to hoping that extra time actually gave them the buffer they needed to do what they needed to do.

Oh woe is me. Blizzard says all realms are up, see you in game. And yet my server is not, alas whatever shall I do during this terrible waiting period?

Let's hope this fixes the myriad of bugs...
Being unable to complete UP because the mobs kept despawning put a damper on things.
Draxxen Jan 23rd 2009 1:00PM
Almost up....mine aren't...still
Hooray for taking a free xfer to a bogged down crappy server.

Has anyone seen the new anvil of the titan proc, and does it stack with mirror of truth?
Pyornthe Jan 23rd 2009 1:01PM
Winterhoof is still not up.

Oh yeah, those 4 hours and 40 minutes were such an inconvenience.
Not to 99% of the userbase, who won't even be aware the downtime even ocurred.
Mountains out of molehills, again.

The 2 servers I play on, Dethecus and Dalaran are both still down as I type this. Hopefully they will be up soon.
If noy then oh well. Other things to do!

Yep - no one notices except those unlucky few with kids that only have uninterrupted time in the morning before those kids are up and before getting ready for work.
I guess I am part of that unlucky %1 that suffers rolling restarts and surprise downtimes. Oh well, I can always play tomorrow.
So yeah, it can really suck.

I really would rather have Blizzard give me real estimates like "we don't have an ETA" than pretending to have one and always missing it.
Besides, there shouldn't be a message saying "all realms up - see you in game" when not all realms are up. That's really a stupid move as those - like myself - who havent their real up, feel defrauded.
Nevertheless it keeps being a great game. Just hopped they would have a roll in roll out more like Google. You generally don't see Google saying, where sorry but the last update messed Gmail and you wont have email for 4 hours.
Its probably in the way they've designed the in-game mechanics and the servers, but I only wish it had more redundancy. Like, if 3.0.8 fails, roll it back out 10m and get back to development. Then roll it in again.
All this works great because no matter what there still is no game even near WOW. The minute their is... Blizzard may have some serious competition. The 8 hours a week maintenance seams also stupid. Google doesn't seams to need it and their servers crash and burn all the time.
I realize that mechanics work differently but in the end I would say it almost all comes down to a huge database. And no matter if WOW has 10M or 20M players, you cant get much larger than Google and that seams to run pretty well and fast non stop.

Kalimdor salute.

Dear Blizzard,
I'm totally cool with emergency fixes. Do what you have to do to make the game the right, but don't tell me all realms are online when they are not. You can say "realms are coming back up" but not "all realms are back up" because that is not true. I know I may be picking over semantics but I prefer to be given the correct information.
AJ Jan 23rd 2009 1:20PM
Still waiting.... Why is it that the RPPVP servers are always the last ones brought online after maintenance? Twisting Nether US is still down at 10:15 PST.
peagle Jan 23rd 2009 2:53PM
@AJ
That doesn't sound very RP. Shouldn't you bemoaning "where doth world have vanished to? Despite lordly promises from Overlord Blizzardiaus of life returning, mine eyes see naught but darkness".
You know, that stuff, maybe with some more comely wenches.
DCoW Jan 23rd 2009 3:40PM
only problem is, that this emergency maintenance was only to bring up arenas.
Turtlefish Jan 23rd 2009 1:30PM
Arenas are still fubar. With a fresh 1500 team, we will lose 20-24 points to a clearly better geared, higher rated team, or for that matter against any team we've fought so far. Having beat the same team, we gained only 7 points. Also, player movement looks incredibly sluggish and choppy in arenas.
Ashyni of Arathor Jan 23rd 2009 1:41PM
I didn't think it was possible, but Northrend seems SLOWER than ever after maintenance. Consistently getting 2-6fps in Dalaran and Dragonblight.
spach1975 Jan 23rd 2009 2:08PM
They must have found another Pally "OP" item. "Quick! Emergency Maintenance! Forget about the Arenas that don't work, make sure those suckers don't get an advantage!"
G Jan 23rd 2009 2:16PM
Have they said what was fixed during this downtime, or did I miss it?
Thander Jan 23rd 2009 2:46PM
Restarting arena with a rollback to pre-patch day numbers for all teams.
