Breakfast Topic: Are you going for Elder?
So with the Lunar Festival finally upon us, many people are probably turning their eyes toward the "To Honor One's Elders" achievement. Even if they don't plan to wear the shiny new title, they'll probably want it if only for a shot at the Violet Proto-Drake. I myself am certainly no exception, and am currently running through Azeroth, paying my respects to the elders and getting those coins. One thing I did notice is that this holiday does have a few high level intensive requirements in the form of the Elders of the Dungeons. Not only do you have to be level 80, but you're going to have to delve into multiple high level dungeons to get all the credit you need for that title.
It's going to take a bit more work than before, so I'm wondering if people are flagging yet on pushing for that Proto-Drake. I know, at the least, that I will probably focus on getting the title for my Death Knight and make my Hunter and Warlock wait another year. What about you? Are you still forging ahead to get the Elder achievement? Are you focusing on getting it for one character, or are you planning to get multiple characters into those dungeons?

I'm definatly gonna push on to get the title. I do not really care for all the achievements on my alts, but I'd like to get as many as I can on my main.
Violet Proto-Drake is gonna be a while away for me since I've only been able to participate in one children's week so far.

You don't need veteran Nanny for the CHildren's Week meta-achievement. So keep your chin up!
Wempler Jan 25th 2009 11:03AM
The real problem will be Bew of the Year, achievement. :-/
Have to be consistenly active for a whole year after September next year.
I find it a bit lame that it is part of the violet proto-drake achievement, as alot of people will have to wait a total of two years to get it.

What you do need tho is to sample 12 brews of the month. Missed a month? Tough luck, wait for the next year. THAT is the most lamest part right now.
Blake Jan 26th 2009 12:08PM
Wow, everyone keeps QQ'ing about Brew of the Month. Get over it people. If you were dedicated enough to get it last year, you won't have a problem when this year rolls around. If you skipped it because you just didn't care enough, then that's your own fault.
Though I expect with the amount of QQ'ing on the forums, it'll probably be removed - like Veteran Nanny, and any other hard achievements. Heaven forbid we make the Violet Proto Drake a rare mount for those that are dedicated.

About the brew of the month. It's not an issue of dedication. I'm just not into virtual drinking. I didn't sign up for the brew of the month. Having to wait two years because I didn't sign up for an achievement I didn't know I was going to need is pretty lame.

i heard the gundrak one is only possible to get if you do heroic because of the location in the dungeon
jaxson_bateman Jan 25th 2009 8:44AM
Correct.
On the plus side, if you take the 'back' door (that is, Moorabi first, the door away from the summoning stone), it's very close to the entrance, and the trash you have to fight is pretty easy. The main difficulty is actually killing the boss, though it's not too bad - we had a enh shammy off healing, and me (holy pally) as the tank, and it went fine.

Yeah - it being in a heroic dungeon makes me a little sad! In my mind, achievements are there mostly for the casual soloer. I know that this isn't actually the case and that Blizzard want us to work for these titles, which is perfectly fair, but I wish they'd think of a way to make us work for it without having to group/ pug up. Just my 2 cents.

"In my mind, achievements are there mostly for the casual soloer."
Oh, you acn do it VERY easily as a casual.
Ask your guild for a save group or use trade...
"WTB a cleared H GunDrak save. If you are saved, party with me so I can walk in and get the Elder, paying 5 gold."
I know if I saw that and had already done GunDrak that day I'd be willing to group up with them so they could walk in.
When we did shadow labs back in the day, we'd ask the entire guild to see if anyone needed the kara key frag, if they did we'd finish Murmur and then all but the needed people would drop out so we could bring in people that needed it.

On a note of levity, the heroic Nax achievements are VERY hard to solo.
More seriously, I agree, hunting achievements does seem like something you should be able to do on your own or with a friend, especially ones with limited availability.
Jim Jan 25th 2009 8:12AM
Aye, done them already, at 12pm Game time yesterday i had completed all of them within 5 hours, not bad eh?
Elder Jim :D

I got mine done at 12 PM server... but then, I'm on an oceanic realm so I got a head start over the US servers. =P
Josho Jan 25th 2009 8:13AM
I have no need for the title; I wanted it for my 71 Mage for roleplaying but seeing as I have to be 80 i'm not taking part this year.
Discrimination!
Muse Jan 25th 2009 8:15AM
You have until February 12th. Plenty of time.
Worcester Jan 26th 2009 4:01PM
Plenty of time unless you can only play on the weekends. So much for Blizzard's comment about "if you are 80, then you are hardcore" a few weeks ago. Looks like you have to be "hardcore" to get this achievement.
I believe Achievements should be work... but I don't believe you should have to sacrifice enjoyable gaming to get them. Many of us left our mains at 70 for a while to play with the new Death Knights. Now, we're forced to speed grind our mains to get a title that should be a relaxing, enjoyable break from the grind.
elstor Jan 25th 2009 8:14AM
Nope, but I am going for a Violet proto drake... who wants to have "old" in their title?
Frank Jan 25th 2009 12:16PM
i do. webster's: noun, "one having authority by virtue of age and experience."
e.g., not a noob.
Charlie Jan 25th 2009 8:20AM
Holy crap! I didn't know it was lunar festival time!
I haven't really logged in since the new year, guess its time to start respecting my elders =D
Dan Jan 25th 2009 8:21AM
Strangely, for the first time I have actually pushed for a title and a meta-achievement. Stayed up til 02:30 last night getting the final few dungeon ones, and now I'm "Elder Swiftfoot".
The RP part of me is rejoicing that I'm a Tauren Druid with the title Elder =P, especially seeing as it's my first title. I've loved the Lunar Festival so far, I'm just kind of sad there isn't really much more to it. A couple Dailies would be nice.
