Farming Chilled Meat and Borean Leather in Northrend
We've already posted about just how useful Chilled Meats are -- they're a staple of the cooking dailies, so chefs and anyone else trying to earn Dalaran cooking awards are after plenty of them. And reader ScytheNoire sent us a good tip on how to pick up not only a ton of Chilled Meats, but stock up on Borean Leather if you're a skinner, too: lowering the Reef Bull population on Scalawag Point, just off the coast of Howling Fjord. Because those guys are needed for the daily quest, the respawn rate is great on them, and within a half hour, says ScytheNoire, he picked up a couple stacks of Chilled Meat and the same of Borean Leather (with a few Arctic Furs in there as well). Just stay away from the folks trying to do their dailies and you can rack up a nice bunch of animal products. As many players will tell you, Sholazar Basin is another great place to get both Chilled Meat and Leather, given that most of the zone is beasts (thanks to the Nesingwary quests around there). I've found that the best place over there is the Hardknuckle Foragers and Chargers near the Frenzyheart Tribe's camp -- the Foragers are neutral and go down fast, and will give Chilled Meat and Leather at a high rate, close to one per kill each.
For leather, obviously the Jormungar Cave in Storm Peaks is another good place to pick up skins, not only from the worms, which will also give you scales, but from the worgs they kill as well. Unfortunately, I haven't yet found any mobs that will consistently drop more than one leather (the Black Morass was such a goldmine for Knothide), so it's slow going no matter where you are, but there are a few good spots to hit up if, like me, you're getting Leatherworking and Cooking up to speed.

This is EXACTLY what i said.. sometimes they just don't know how to let things just be.

as most people are too lazy to farm its not like its going to dent the stupid prices you charge. mats cost far too much for the work involved. its just the easy money from dailys making players lazy.
you make money from lazy people, thanks to how easy money comes and goes, you won't have a problem. it just means now the people who were unsure of good spots so they can do there own quests wont have to pay your inflated prices and can go do it themselves.

In general, its bad when a popular site gives recomendations of this type.
It is dissruptive.
Everyone then goes to that spot then it becomes the worst farm place until no one goes and so on.It then will take some time until it stabilizes.

ERM? I am one of those people who refuse to pay the outrageous prices that some of you greedy and selfish people put up on the AH. 15 gold for 5 pieces of chilled meat? Riiight. I rather farm that meat myself instead of paying someone to overcharge me for something I can do myself.
I'm glad they tell us stuff like this. I've been trying to figure out what sort of place to go to find more chilled meat as the drop rate is pretty low in some places I've been to. This is helpful to those of us who forget about these places given all that stuff we have to do. (Some of us a. have lives and can't be on 24/7 b. raid c. levelinvg d. doing achievements e. other things that take time)
Nice to see a lot of selfish people whining about this because they thought they were the only ones suppose to have a monolopy on it.

Violet Hold trash mobs are great for large amounts of borean leather per skin.
Jason Jan 26th 2009 3:17PM
Especially the Core Hound boss, I've seen him drop seven Borean Leather once.
Antonia Jan 26th 2009 3:34PM
I love VH just for this reason alone.. and get a group of friends who don't mind wiping a few times and you'll rake it in.. or just hope to get the ethereal boss :)
Wolfblitzer Jan 26th 2009 5:30PM
I've seen the core hound boss on heroic drop 10 Borean Leather before.

I'll keep farming near Agmar's Hammer in Dragonblight for the Chilled Meat and Borean leather. When those mobs turn green I'll move to another zone, Prolly Sholazar Basin.

I've found I can farm these in stacks of 20 for 39g from the fertile lands of ah.
Punjab Jan 26th 2009 4:54PM
They go for 39g on your server?! I'm lucky to get 15g a stack on mine. :(
sloegin Jan 26th 2009 3:22PM
Thankfully 308 cut down the need to farm so damn much chilled meat.
As for skinning, good skinners will have zero argent rep. Those who do know what this means already.
Elwoods Jan 26th 2009 5:12PM
Yip ... pity they had a nice fecking chest piece for me :(
vazhkatsi Jan 27th 2009 9:55AM
actually 3.08 raised the meat for the dailies
mattijai Jan 26th 2009 3:28PM
The rule of thumb for farming chilled meat is to find a beast that DOESN'T drop any other type of meat for cooking and is in large supply in an area. These will yield the best drop rate of chilled meat. (ie. deer/stag in Grizzly Hills, Polar Bears in Dragonblight, Longnecks in the Basin)

Sholazzar is great for this.. Also gives Dragonscales, and rhino meat..
I got my skinner upthere, and lvling her as i skin and lewt meat for cash ;)
Sells great on my realm :)

I had 5 stacks of chilled meat in my bags after ending all animal life in Sholazar for Hemet. and now that the convention daily isn't so insane anymore I think that'll last me a while.
BigFire Jan 26th 2009 4:41PM
The convention now only takes 4 chilled meat instead of 12. Blame the economy.

Rams northwest of Fort Wildervar in Howling Fjord are my preferred target when farming leathers and meat.
