Farming Chilled Meat and Borean Leather in Northrend
We've already posted about just how useful Chilled Meats are -- they're a staple of the cooking dailies, so chefs and anyone else trying to earn Dalaran cooking awards are after plenty of them. And reader ScytheNoire sent us a good tip on how to pick up not only a ton of Chilled Meats, but stock up on Borean Leather if you're a skinner, too: lowering the Reef Bull population on Scalawag Point, just off the coast of Howling Fjord. Because those guys are needed for the daily quest, the respawn rate is great on them, and within a half hour, says ScytheNoire, he picked up a couple stacks of Chilled Meat and the same of Borean Leather (with a few Arctic Furs in there as well). Just stay away from the folks trying to do their dailies and you can rack up a nice bunch of animal products. As many players will tell you, Sholazar Basin is another great place to get both Chilled Meat and Leather, given that most of the zone is beasts (thanks to the Nesingwary quests around there). I've found that the best place over there is the Hardknuckle Foragers and Chargers near the Frenzyheart Tribe's camp -- the Foragers are neutral and go down fast, and will give Chilled Meat and Leather at a high rate, close to one per kill each.
For leather, obviously the Jormungar Cave in Storm Peaks is another good place to pick up skins, not only from the worms, which will also give you scales, but from the worgs they kill as well. Unfortunately, I haven't yet found any mobs that will consistently drop more than one leather (the Black Morass was such a goldmine for Knothide), so it's slow going no matter where you are, but there are a few good spots to hit up if, like me, you're getting Leatherworking and Cooking up to speed.

Same here ... have a DK skinner, so I just pop my D&D AoE and burn down whole clusters of the beasts, skin em and move on to the next cluster.

My guild just started, so we haven't had a chance to raid yet. However, due to my knowledge that we'd get there at some point and just plain wanting the Merrymaker title back in December, I leveled up my cooking. I /facepalm every time I think about all that chilled meat I sold. Anyway, like I've mentioned before, the herds of Shoveltusk outside Westguard Keep in Howling Fjord is a great source of shoveltusk flanks, especially if you've got AoE. The groups are all 70ish and there's about 5-8 mobs at a time. Spending about thirty minutes gives you 60+ flanks.

BEST place for chilled meats
http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=29559
fast respawn, large groups
I was able to get 2 stacks of 20 in about 10 minutes
killin baby seals FTW

Beat me to it.
This really is the best place to farm chilled meat.
Baby seals are made of meat.
My wife's priest has a high level cooking skill and provides great feast for the raids. So to keep her happy I would go over there once every few days and spend a half hour just AoE pulling entire herds.
Just be sure to have a mace equipped.
It's tradition.

Ok here is a secret. If you are high enough to do it. I dont mind giving it away now that I'm a mining fool. Just outside of Alter of Har'koa( East of it) in Zul Drak where the snow is you can kill the Snow Leopards and Ice Claw Bears for Meat and a 100% Drop rate on Borean Leather. I farm at least 5 stacks of Chilled Meat in less then an our as a Feral Druid in Bear form, now that I'm boomkin it takes a bit longer since its my first time playing as a boomkin.
Please note that its NOT 100% on the meat, but you will get enough for yourself and some to sell. Again the Leather is always Borean Leather with 450 Skinning, and they drop good Vendor Trash.
Happy Farming

That's... not really a tip, is it?
All beasts above level 75-76 will yield Borean Leather if you stick your Skinning Knife (or Gnomish Army Knife!) in them and skin em.

For lower level people, Howling Fjord just south of the main horde town where "Lunchbox" is, there are a few packs of wooly rhinos. You can AOE these and farm rhino meat and leather scraps. I made about 3 stacks meat in 20 min. The leather drops are actually pretty bad, it's almost not worth it to skin b/c most of the mobs only drop one scrap. Still in an hour you can probably get a stack of leather. But the main thing is the meat which you can make into a nice cooking recipe (80 AP) using the cooking daily rewards.

The rams at the northern edge of Howling Fjord are 70-ish and have a good drop rate for both leather and chilled meat.

Rob,
Lunchbox is in Borean Tundra. Out side Warsong Hold. You are correct though, thats a great place for Rhino Meat and Leather with scraps tossed in.

It's really annoying when you're trying to play matchmaker to lonely Reef Bulls/Cows and folks are out farming them.

Easy mode farming for leather (and a few Nerubian Chitin, if you're lucky) can be done by stepping off the zeppelin in Borean Tundra and doing a loop around the quarry.
Then head north-east on the path heading towards the D.E.T.H.A. camp and stay on the left hand side of the shoulder. Kill everything you see. Rhino meat and a few worg flanks should accompany a fairly large stack of leather and scraps.
After that, head North and hunt down every pack of Rhinos you can.
As for the Howling Fjord, best spots I've found are by farming Shoveltusks heading West to east along the Southern Coast. Start off on the western-most edge of the upper cliffs and make your way east, killing the packs as you go. Stay south of the main road until you near New Angamar. In between this spot and the Ancient lift, either side of the road is fine, but once you get to the lift, hug the western coast. You should find a pretty high concentration of them on the northwestern edge of the Ember Clutch and east of Westguard Keep.
Other favorites include:
* Hunting mammoth herds in Dragonblight as a nice diversion in between quest hubs/goals.
* Duskhowl Prowlers and Longhoof grazers along the eastern coast in Grizzly Hills, and Grizzlies along the river.
(I haven't yet made it to Sholozar (yet) so I'm hoping this will be a cash crop due to the number of beasties.)

I finally saw someone in my favorite leather farming spot today. First time since Wrath released I've seen someone else there.
It's got decently good leather drops and good chance of icy dragonscales. makes me sad people are finally discovering it.
I won't say where it is but here's a hint. It is EXTREMELY close to Dalaran.
Can be there within two minutes of leaving Dalaran. Can kill level 79-80 mobs and walk out with probably a full stack of Heavy BL and 15-20 icy dragonscales.
It really only has enough mobs for 1 person to farm at a time so I'm sad whenever I see someone else there.

Shhhh! Don't tell people about my magic apes! They're overfarmed as it is. hehe

I make a ton of money skinning everyone's kills in the Stormpeaks -- near where the Sons of Hodir quests take place. I can hang out there for 15 minutes and have a backpack full of leathers. Guess there are a shortage of skinners on my server or something. I don't even have to kill anything (usually).
Zayd Jan 27th 2009 10:37AM
Wouldn't mobs in HF be more likely to drop scraps rather than fully formed leather?
Get yourself to the Basin if you're high enough.
