The Queue: I like fire

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft.
alpha5099 asked...
I keep seeing references to EU-Magtheridon, and I'm absolutely fascinated by a server with such a ridiculously unbalanced player ratio. Does anyone know how that happened? Is there some reason an insane number of Horde players are there? Did the Horde just start getting the edge and the Alliance players left for less ganky pastures, and it's gone out of control since then?
EU-Magtheridon is a very special case. It's the home of Nihilum, now Ensidia, and they play Horde. Naturally a lot of people rolled there as Nihilum hopefuls, others rolled there just to hear all the gossip and news firsthand. That meant the Horde earned a quick upperhand on the server, which made the Alliance less inclined to play there, and it just snowballed into the imbalance you see there today.
Not much you can do about it, really. Those sorts of things just happen around well known people.
Debesun asked...
Is this big swirly maelstrom in the middle of the map a big whirlpool or a aerial vortex storm.. thing?
The maelstrom you see on the map is The Maelstrom. Gasp! It's a very whirlpooly, stormy area of the world, where the Well of Eternity used to be. It blew up, split the world into a few different pieces, and there's all sorts of tasty ruins down there now like the former Elven capital and its Queen. We'll probably be going there in a future expansion, though it's never been specifically stated.
Kishin asked...
Is there a mote extractor for the clouds in Northrend?
There isn't a new Northrend mote extractor, but the Zapthrottle Mote Extractor from Outland/The Burning Crusade works on them just fine. You use the exact same one.
lawlzcake asked...
Hi, I'm wondering how people in Wintergrasp get like 60k health? When I Google search it, it doesn't do anything and of course you can't Wowwikki it, so this seems the best place to ask.
That's the result of a buff called Tenacity. It's a stacking buff, and how high the stack goes is determined by how imbalanced (population-wise) the battle is at that moment. If the difference between the two sides is minor, the outnumbered team will only have a couple stacks of it. If the gap is very, very large, it can stack as high as 20 which will give that faction pretty massive healthpools and obscenely high damage. It's meant to level the playing field a little bit.
slunk asked...
I am looking for a suggestion for a buff mod that will let me assign buffs that I should always have. I would then want it to tell me which of these buffs are no longer active or are about to expire. Any suggestions?
I'm glad you asked, because I've been in the market for an addon that does this as well. Now that it's legitimately important for Shadow Priests to have Inner Fire up 100% of the time in a raid setting, my inability to babysit that buff is really coming to light. I was pointed in the direction of SmartBuff by a friend, and it was also suggested in the comments after you asked this question, so I'm going to give it a shot.
Looking at its description on Curse, I probably won't use most of the mod personally, but it looks just like what you want. I'll likely just use the alerts to let me know when to recast Inner Fire and such. You'll probably use a lot more of what the mod has to offer.
I know, it looks like a real copout when I completely ride on the suggestions of others and don't have much personal experience, but it's a learning experience for both of us! It's like a bond, slunk. We're soulbound.
Wulfkin asked...
Who is the woman who's voice you hear in Naxxramas screaming things like "help me, save me!"?
Pretty sure it's just ambience, and it's not actually a specific character/person. Just general spookiness. Some people say it's a part of Thaddius since he's stitched together from many, many women and children... but I'm pretty sure she's just ambience. If you want to know her name, you're better off looking at a list of Blizzard employees rather than a list of Warcraft characters.

You know, you probably don't need to answer questions that already were answered in the previous post.
I mean, the Maelstrom/Well of Eternity answer is basically the same we saw before.

Not everyone reads the comments, so some people will see the article, and also be interested by the answer they give.

Yeah, I started in Borean Tundra with my Engineer. The steam clouds and the mechanical mobs to salvage during the first few days of the expansion were a joy that still brings a tear to my eye. I'm really glad Blizzard allowed that to continue on in Wrath...it makes being an Engineer worthwhile - I always have a ready supply of Primal Water, Air and Fire for enchants and transmutes.

It is Thaddius. The sound files that play those screams are in the same folder as Thaddius's other sound effects (as proven in his WowHead page's comments section, http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=15928#comments), and those screams no longer play once Thaddius is dead.
Elmo Jan 26th 2009 4:21PM
Also when you enter Thaddius' room he says, you're too late I must obey.
which seems to me like it was build while we were fighting in Naxx and was finished just before we entered.
Bobobe Jan 26th 2009 4:19PM
The Screaming actually is tied to Thaddius. If you down him and go back in the next day and still have quarters to clear, you will notice the screaming has stopped.
http://www.wowwiki.com/Thaddius even states that the screams of the women/children are tied to this boss.

Buff addon suggestions: TellMeWhen and NeedToKnow
That is all
SnippyMcPhail Jan 26th 2009 4:54PM
I couldn't get it working right but alot of other people have... I'm sure I nubbed it up... but when it was working.... ZOMG Buffs has everything you need for buffs tied to the scroll wheel. So you just scroll and buff casts...

Another buff mod that I use exclusivly on paladins is "PallyPower."
It makes it possible for you to easily coordinate the buffs given out by all paladins in the entire party/raid, to prevent confusion on buffs (was really nice pre-wotlk when we had an additional buff). It also gives you a bar that you just click on for each class, that will automatically buff everyone in that class if you left click, or right click to give that one person the 10 min version so you dont waste a regeant. Has a timer for each class that tells you when to rebuff, and it automatically clears our when it sees someone dies.
And for you prot pallies, it even has a button for righteous fury, that you just click to buff and has a timer for you.
When I lead raids in my guild, I require all Pallies to have this addon because it makes my job alot easier by just going in and assigning who buffs what myself, and then they just gotta click to give.

I use power auras. I just set it up to tell me when a buff is missing and it works wonders for my priest.
Its also great for PVP and those annoying rogue stuns.
Kyle Jan 26th 2009 8:06PM
PowerAuras is also interesting, these addons can be configured to do much more than just showing buffs. If that's all you want check out Cork http://tekkub.net/addons/Cork

I never had tried Power Auras so I gave it a shot. I must say, I like Power Auras much more. It has a much better visual cue and customizable than the ones listed above. Ty all!

What are the dragons doing to the other portals in the basement of Wyrmrest Temple?
DataShade Jan 26th 2009 4:56PM
Well, the working portal leads to the Obsidian Sanctum, so I assumed they were making chambers for the other flights.
Jess Q. Jan 26th 2009 6:05PM
This is just conjecture, but it seems to me like they're holding something back from coming in, like keeping the portals shut. I'm really curious to see what will be behind those portals (and I hope it's sooner rather than later). I'd like more reason to be there than just Sartharion. It's such a big area (especially compared to the horribly cramped Naxx meeting stone area) it'd be a shame to wait too long before having the other instances open, I think.
hoviboy Jan 26th 2009 7:58PM
emerald nightmare?
Andris Jan 26th 2009 4:59PM
I'd suggest ZOMGBuffs, which will track your self-buffs and also group buffs if you want. It also has the option to not use reagents when buffing in battlegrounds, for those of you who don't like spending the gold when they're just going to die anyway.
slunk Jan 26th 2009 7:50PM
I am looking for something to track group buffs. I'm a raiding rogue and I'd rather not have to check to see which buffs I am missing.
I want the buff mod to be in my face when I'm missing Blessing of Might. It doesn't have to tell me I have the buff, but it must tell me it is no't active.
Kyle Jan 26th 2009 8:06PM
Cork seems to be what you're looking for, very simple, and looks like it does just what you want:

If you have healbot, the last tab of options has all that.
