WoW Moviewatch: Flekz Fire PvP 5
PvP movies aren't the normal trade of WoW Moviewatch, but we do occasionally see PvP movies that we want to mention. It's good to be aware of the variety out there, and maybe each genre can learn a little something from one another. Flekz from Eredar (EU) created Fleks Fire PvP 5 as a movie mostly about, you got it, his fire mage doing stuff in PvP. But there' are a few things in this that I want to point out as being special and interesting.
First, the entire movie is basically framed as if it were a comic book. I like when PvP movie-makers take a little extra time to try and present the action in a new and interesting way. Insane Gouge Crits did something similar a few weeks ago, and I'm definitely interested to see where this trend will go. Dialogue in speech bubbles, framed shots, and even the opening magazine cover reinforce the 4-color world of Fleks.
Second, Flekz puts effort into being playful with the movie. Odd cuts and angles frame scenes in a jaunty kind of way. (Do I lose points for using the word 'jaunty'?) It refers to Flekz as 'our hero,' reminiscent of other web-slinging comic books that play with 4th wall awareness.
Lastly, I'll admit, the rock-and-roll won me over. Anything that starts out with a good, old Iron Maiden tune definitely scores in my book.

this has to be one of my favs, and the rock music sets it nice. ALMOST makes me wanna pvp on my mage.

2 Minutes to Midnight, one of the best Iron Maiden songs, from one powerful album. Up the IRONS \m/

Very cool. Also reminded me how much I suck at PvP.

Personally, all this video says to me is, "wow, mages are seriosuly op"
I wish I could just blink around and use instant casts and actually kill people, unlike on my priest and warlock.
Lemons Jan 26th 2009 2:58PM
He didn't just use all instants, did you see how much casting he did in this vid? It may not seem like much, but in pvp that's a hell of a lot of casting/standing around.
Plus he's fire specced (which is why he is casting so much) so he's not your run of the mill arcane retard.
Hevnlyst Jan 27th 2009 1:52PM
Only time he casted was when they were disoriented or stunned. Plus, he always had his cooldowns (blast wave, dragon's breath) up.
I'm always very critical of pvp videos. Usually people only showcase fights where they get a lucky string of crits, or when they vastly outgear or counter a class. Especially with the current pvp imbalances.

ya mages are OP...
what the hell game are you playing lol??
Chris Jan 26th 2009 1:16PM
Before OP discussions start - Arcane and Frost are the PvP specs. What's shown here is someone making a fire spec work through skill, and teamwork (in the arenas).
Arcane is OP, frost is about right.

One well done video (Maiden always helps, of course)

This vid makes me want to do some arenas very badly, hopefully I don't meet Flekz and get exploded :P

What was he using to make him run around so fast with the flames? It wasn't Blazing Speed was it?
I don't play a mage, so not familiar if it is mage specific or a trinket.

Rocket Boots, engineer stuff.
Stone_Rhino Jan 26th 2009 3:32PM
He has 120 magic resistance to all schools, 50% debuff reduction, and with magic attunement he takes 360 less damage from EVERY spell used against him.
At least when warlocks had high resistance it was on their pet only. Mages have it in wads, on top of their already strong caster defense.
No caster can ever hope to beat him. Leaving his only real opponents melee, and the numerous instants, stuns, and snares in fire take care of that.
Taladan Jan 26th 2009 3:38PM
Some thoughts I had after watching this:
1) Rocket Boots as kiting ability.
2) He doesn't seem to have the Glyph of Evocation (unless I missed something, he's not regenerating life when using Evocation.)
3) I wonder if it would work against Frost DKs and their ability to increase resistance against a certain magic school.

When a Dk hits deaths grip on you, it's fun to fly to him. One of the coolest spells around.
But what happens afterwards...
I don't like to talk about that
Kendrathe Jan 27th 2009 2:09AM
Show me on the doll where the DK touched you.

I remember a long time ago, there was another mage who did the exact same thing with their pvp vid. Comic book style, gradient art, the works. So, it'd been nice if this guy credited the other vid.
Mop Jan 26th 2009 10:20PM
Twh i believe it's the same guy in those vids. I remember the Flekz Flakes cereal in that one too.
Defoe Jan 27th 2009 4:25AM
I think the movie you are both referring to is "Flekz 4" which was released sometime last year, and is done in the same comic book style as this one.
If you pay attention to Flekz 4 and the soundtrack, you can see he got his inspiration from Frank Miller ;-)
I cant wait to see this movie, I play a fire Mage as well.
