Breakfast Topic: Not a patch day
Today is not patch day. That's actually the good news. Despite the bug fixes that Ghostcrawler promised should come up after regular weekly maintenance, there doesn't seem to be signs of a patch. Adam contends there's possibly a patch because some fixing needs to be done client side. At any rate, there will be no hat eating today, and even if there is a tiny patch, it's still not a patch patch. Right now we're still reeling from the aftermath of the disastrous Patch 3.0.8 which received some mixed reactions. Even Hunters, who were supposed to get a nerf, simply re-specced to Survival and went along their merry DPS meter-topping ways. Warlocks were supposed to get a buff, but instead got a bug in the form of a 2-minute cooldown to Ritual of Summoning. Let's not even talk about PvP where Wintergrasp crashed everything and Arenas were disabled because, well, the new undocumented ratings system just plain sucked.
So if there's anything to be thankful for today, it's that it's not a patch day. Not an official one, at any rate. When the servers come up later today, what do expect to find? No more lag? Fixed items? Fixed spells? Or, are you willing to wager -- eating your hat, maybe -- that today's "fix" will only bring more bugs?
Update: Alex here! Silly Zach, today is a patch day! It's a minor patch, bringing us up to v3.0.8.9506. The same questions here all apply, though. What fixes are you hoping to see today? Will game experience improve after today's maintenance?

World of Theorycraft;
They took 3.0.8 off test realm to prepare Ulduar to enter the test realm. Since 3.0.8 was not quite finished but would have been in limbo otherwise between Test and Live, they decide to launch it.
rosencratz Jan 27th 2009 8:25AM
Take a dash of something similar and complicate it a hundred times and you might be near the mark.
They could've just patched the PTR up to test Ulduar, they didn't need to shut down the servers and release stuff prematurely for that reason. It'll be more to do with other deadlines or making sure certain balances are put in place sooner rather than later or we can assume that the bugs were simply unforeseen.... Either way, your theory crafting is far to simple, complexity is the nature of any issues of this ilk.

Salsa goes great with hat. Enjoy it!

I was thinking hot molten cheese was better for this, but I'll try this ... José Jalapeño get over here ... wanna do a little tapdance

Can anyone confirm what that this minor patch has solved some bugs? DK Howling Blast for example...
I adressed that specific problem to a gm yesterday.
Reply was "Working as intended". I will never ask them anything again.
Wistin Jan 27th 2009 8:37AM
Since nobody can play right now, nobody can confirm anything about the patch.
unigolyn Jan 27th 2009 9:09AM
It IS working as intended. HB cooldown removal is a tooltip error, it's still supposed to have a cooldown, which is 5 seconds, down from 6.
Binno Jan 27th 2009 9:11AM
Sorry, living in GMT+1, so I guess there is an hour or two to go before any questions can be answered.

"Warlocks were supposed to get a buff, but instead got a bug in the form of a 2-minute cooldown to Ritual of Souls."
That would be Ritual of Summoning

@Bossy - Dude take it down a notch i think if you went back and tried to stay on topic to the OP the theme was what do you want to see in this micro-patch if there was (and there is it would seem) a patch. If you don't like what the posters here at WI put up why not go to another site and read there? Maybe you need to bring your QQ about someone else's QQ here to inflate your ego?
On topic I would just love some break on the lag issues in general. I have never had so much lag to where i couldn't function inside an instance before, but that the way it goes i guess. Soon enough all the people who came back for Wrath will get bored again and go play the new hotness and we will get our servers back until the next exp pack.
unigolyn Jan 27th 2009 9:12AM
Honestly, I don't have lag issues, except in high-pop open zones when the server is massively overpopulated.
Methinks your problems lie with your ISP.
vazhkatsi Jan 27th 2009 9:43AM
People apparently have lag in naxx, of course, this has never been a problem for my guild because we raid after most people are finished
unigolyn Jan 27th 2009 10:11AM
I did a full clear of 10-man naxx this Saturday and Sunday, from 4-8 PM on Sat and 8-9:30 on Sun. Did 2 wings and Sapph/KT in 25s last night around 9 PM.
No lag. Some people were complaining about high latency, but that's an ISP/roommatepr0ndownload issue, not Blizzard's.
BiggusGeekus Jan 27th 2009 8:25AM
Everyone is talking about how wintergrasp crashed the game in 3.0.8. Nobody is mentioning that the changes just plain SUCK.
Dan Jan 27th 2009 8:25AM
Personally, I'm glad their fixing Howling Blast so it shows the cooldown properly, been bugging me ever since I changed specs on my Death Knight. That, along with lag fixes. It will also be nice to see the warlock summon be fixed, it was irritating having to wait 2 minutes to summon someone to specific part in Naxx.
SINisterWyvern Jan 27th 2009 8:25AM
And woe, beware the terrible "disaster" that brought ruin upon our lives, and let it be named 3.0.8. May the media masses forever over analyze and over exaggerate the day of Jan 20, 2009. Never forget the minor inconveniences that annoyed us while we still traveled the land of Azeroth.
See? That's ridiculous, and what it sounds like everytime 3.0.8 is referred to here on wowinsider lately. There were bugs, get the F over it!
"bu.. bu.. but they broke stuff! /cry" - Yeah well, like they said, it worked fine on test and worked fine on internal servers.
It's not the end of the world damn it.
Draenors Jan 27th 2009 8:31AM
Please, no more lag! I can live with Wintergrasp doesn't work if the stupid hunters (good thing there aren't a lot in my guild) are outDPSing me. But being owned by Faerlina or Noth in Heroic Naxxramas because each spell takes 5 extra seconds to cast is simply not acceptable.
Zokkar Jan 27th 2009 8:32AM
I vote for.. more bugs probably.
I hope they fix/tone down the lag at least...
Bossy Jan 27th 2009 8:33AM
I am glad I am far from the only one seeing this these last months.
Yes EA bought themselevs into this website and the anit-Wow tone is becoming more and more agrressive.
Just be aware of it all and make a note of it.

"Even Hunters, who were supposed to get a nerf, simply re-specced to Survival and went along their merry DPS meter-topping ways."
While this is true to some extent, it's not all true. To be able to excel at Survival, it's no longer one button mashing. If you want to top meters, you actually have to work for it now. I think the Survival spec is perfect the way it is and much harder to play "right" than Beastmaster was. I hope they leave the spec as it is. I've yet to see a Hunter once BM gone SV top the meters.
