I have to burst your rightous bubble. As you have a idea of the facts but cant put them together i'll connect the dots. Your HD being fragged has nothing to do with your connection and disk cleanup has zilch to do with it too. What kind of HD are you running as scsis? When your drive is almost full (you'll get a warning) you'll see a noticeable downturn in response for EVERYTHING. Lack of ram, unseated ram, different types of ram, your PSU being too low wattage for your VC or your lack processing power will be a cause for lag prior to your hd.
And this laptop from pre 04 running illidan at 50 frames per second? With 25 other people? Are you kidding me. What resolution 640x480 with everything turned off? I call bs on that. Even 512 mb 8800's (which I have) will have trouble fulfilling 50fps's with 25 people consistently.
And this super beef computer you speak of can do nothing for you if the lag occurs at the 30th stop on the way to t he farms blizzard contracts out to handle the game. You been listening to this talk Barack obama has spoken of rebuilding our network, updating it. It's this precise issue he's speaking of. That we can have such awful spikes in connections is due to the grid having serious gaps. Most of the time it's the routing through colorado where my connection drops out. Go figure. Probably rats chewing wires. Anyways blizzard has come out quite a few times that they are working with comcast to resolve it.
