Official 3.0.8.9506 patch notes
Nethaera has posted the official "patch notes" for patch 3.0.8.9506/3.0.8a today. They are listed in their entirety after the break.These notes mirror what Ghostcrawler said in a series of posts last night. I imagine that these patch notes could be updated at some future time, listing more bug fixes if they're present. So you'll probably want to check back later and see if that's the case.
If you're looking for a download mirror for the patch files, check out our listing.
Bug Fixes

WTF? No love for clams?
Nathanyel Jan 27th 2009 4:28PM
No patchnotes are complete without anything clam-related.
konoo Jan 27th 2009 1:52PM
Not impressed with the patch.
pringle Jan 27th 2009 2:15PM
Then you must not have needed a lock summon lately... 1 summon every 2 min really sucked.
konoo Jan 27th 2009 2:47PM
I am just being selfish...
George Jan 27th 2009 2:48PM
ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?
Breaking summons was the best thing that happened to locks since the expansion. FINALLY we have an excuse NOT to summon everyone in a party and tell them to just get their lazy asses inside, or be replaced.

Why does Blizzard bother coming out with "official" patch notes when ~half of the things they change aren't included in these "official" patch notes, and the other half that they do include don't work and require a patch on top of a patch to fix a week lateR?

I wonder if they are any closer to solving the updater kernel panic some Mac users have been experiencing. I have to boot into Windows Vista just to play WoW these days.
Candina@WH Jan 27th 2009 2:17PM
You poor soul, Windows Vista = Worst OS EVER. ;-)
Shot Jan 27th 2009 2:20PM
@Candina
Get off your non-windows high horse :) Vista is a perfectly fine OS. I installed on a seperate partition about a year ago, thinking I'd give it a go and would probably continue to use XP, but haven't booted XP even once since. Not a single issue with anything since I started using it (Ultimate 64-bit).
Procris Jan 27th 2009 2:33PM
I doubt Candina@WH even uses Vista. I run WoW on Vista and its actually been better for than me than XP, runs wihout problems and i use it on a day to day basis for both home and work. Glad to see the uneducated still spreading fud about Vista being a bad OS when it isn't at all.
Zul Jan 27th 2009 2:36PM
Vista is fine GTFO, and why would anyone game on an apple OS?
George Jan 27th 2009 2:51PM
...no keyloggers?
SimpleSurvival Jan 27th 2009 3:02PM
because macs have t3h powerhouse graphics... and when you aren't playing antisocial MMOs you can take it to the coffee shop.
I think i've been pavlovian trained to ignore OS criticism...
Its unfortunate that so many people choose to argue the superiority of one OS over another... especially when they can't state what reasons an OS is superior/inferior...
For s/g lets get the overview delt with
Vista IS faster than XP... strip down XP and strip down Vista... the vista machine is faster... The complaint that XP is faster than vista is due to Vista having more fetaures than XP and most of those features are enabled by default. If you want your machine to run faster, configure it based on your needs.
Crashing/Bugs, etc... over 70% of windows crashes are caused by 3rd party graphics drivers (Actual statistic, not pulled out of my ass... google it, microsoft released a report a few months back). I'd bet that another portion of those crashes are due to stupidity and neaderthal'esque people beating their computer with rudimentary tools when its behaving as intended, but not as expected.
Look and Feel... The Mac OS is shiny, Vista is shiny, XP can runs faster than vista when you have vista set to be shiny... but why just let your gfx card run idle when you are wandering around the explorer.
Mac is a proprietary rig. That means every piece of hardware/software that goes on them is controlled by apple. You will find a higher level of consistency and quality as a direct result, but you exist in a monopoly market and you will pay more due to a lack of competition
PCs are an open standard platform. Anybody can write software or develop hardware that can work on a PC. There is a great deal of low quality silicon out there... because you have some in your computer doesn't mean that the platform as a whole sucks, it just means you bought cheap gear. You can match an apple in specs and performance typically for 1/2 to 3/4 the cost of an apple with traditional PC architecture.
PCs are the king of gaming... Until the current revision of Macs, their graphics subsystems were a joke... I played warcraft on a 2006 macbook pro with 4gb mem. It got around 20-25 fps in azeroth. I shudder to think how it would go in outland.
Until this current revision, Macs didn't have anything close to 'gamer quality' graphics. Right now, the only macs that have 'gamer quality' graphics are current models of the Macbook, Macbook pro, and Mac Pro. The iMac has laughable entry level gear that is 2 cycles ago. Previous generations of the Mac Pro had an optional upgrade to a quality graphics card (at a 125-150% premium over a similar card suited for a pc)

I happily use Vista, but as far as WoW is concerned, the extra RAM use that Vista brought isn't mixing so well with the extra RAM use that Northrend brought. But I'm playing on a laptop. And I'm angrier at WoW for doubling its RAM use depending on which continent I'm on.

@SimpleSurvival
You pretty much covered it, but I want to add one final note. I play on a Dec 2007 MacBook Pro (with the fancy big screen, big processor and game-capable graphics card). Sure, it's pretty awesome. I can run Photoshop, a virtual machine with Windows XP and Outlook, and WoW using Spaces. But the moment I hit Dalaran, my computer starts to boil. Why? Form over function. The vents are ridiculous and its ability to cool off is awful. I never had to get any kind of cooler mat before this mac. Generally, I have to keep the mat's fans on and run a program that makes my fans start cooling off the machine sooner. I also set a max fps in the game to 30 and reduce my graphics.
To sum it up: Can it tear up WoW? Yes. Will it melt your processor? Possible. Should you worry about machine temperature? Very yes.
That is all.

@Shot
Nothing wrong with Vista? Smoke dope much? 20% slower on the same hardware as XP.
evan Jan 27th 2009 1:56PM
Yes, I demand more clam enhancements.
Also, Dance studios, Dual Specs, and that quest in Booty bay with the knife fixed, and that quest in outland where you have to follow that bird.
I demand blizzard delay everything else until this is done. Take wintergrasp down if you need to.
That will be all.
SimpleSurvival Jan 27th 2009 2:09PM
Blizz has already said that they won't balance clams in 1v1...
Certain mobs are gonna have a higher drop rate than others, and some classes and specs are going to be able grind more efficiently than others... its working as intended.
I just hope they finally put level requirements on the high end bags, its totally unfair that clamming twinks get huge bags.... I can't even afford that kinda bag on my main, its stupid that some guy buys his lvl 15 hunter 20 slot bags... the westfall murloc bracket is sooo lame. I'm not a clammer myself, but I get bored getting runs through VC and I like to quest occasionally... All these clammer twinks make it impossible to complete the Westfall Stew quest by camping the spawns.

Actually, I just completed that knife quest in Booty Bay (this was before the new 3.0.8a patch came out). Maybe it's already fixed?
