Swift Flight Form in ink
Zeerah wrote in earlier today to send us a pretty awesome addition to our WoW tattoo gallery. They took their love for their class to the next level, and have emblazoned their leg with one of the coolest looking (in my opinion) Druid forms in WoW thus far.Personally, I think it's a pretty good choice for a tattoo. I don't have a problem with gaming tattoos, but I do think that if you're going to get one, get one that looks awesome (while also meaning something, of course). This one is pretty good I think, not that it's my place to judge. Congratulations on your ink, Zeerah! Looks like they did a pretty good job on it. It's an Alliance Druid form too, which is a plus in my book. I love both factions equally, but we're a little Horde heavy in our gallery, don't you think?

Of course it's a good choice for a tattoo - have you actually seen the other Druid forms? He's Alliance so I imagine his thought process went something like this:
"So what do I want permanently inked on my leg? Let's see...the giant grey rat? The cross-eyed black lynx?" (Ok, I have to admit the Nelf Cat form is pretty cool; I'm Horde and have to deal with that...thing. Must stop myself going into a huge hate-campaign about Tauren Cat form...) "The generic cheetah/hunter pet? How about the rabid, messed-up sea lion? No no, I know - let's go for the ONLY DRUID FORM THAT'S HAD ANY WORK PUT INTO IT. Wow, that was a pretty easy decision wasn't it?"

Aint a druid, but if I was going to rock some druid ink I would have to go with Tree Form.

That alleged "sea lion" IS pretty messed up, I agree. Just what IS that thing??? It certainly doesn't resemble any sea lion that I've ever seen in real life...it's more like some kind of gray seal mixed with a hippopotamus or something...yeah, that's it! It's a sea hippo! Except that its snorts are more like an elephant seal with severe sinus trouble. Obviously, its model was developed by someone who has never watched the Discover Channel, but at least they were paid (and in today's economy, that's a boon unto itself!) and it DOES give us the ability to slaughter murlocs and naga wholescale without drowning, so I guess it's a welcome addition, but still...
Okay, that was a weird rant, yes?
Cue up "Gauntlet" sound bites...

I have a friend in the Northeast who is a wonderful and gifted tattoo artist. To give you an idea of just how detailed she can get, most people do the feathers of a mandala as fringed edges. Not her...she does each individual strand to the point that they look like real feathers! She's also covered head to toe with ink (a lot of it her own work) and with her, it actually looks GOOD! It fits her personality and you find yourself not even really noticing them because they just make up a part of her overall being. Now in 20 years or so, that might be a different story...
Be that as it may...um...Deewee, did you have a few too many tats on your cranium? You start out lucid and logical, but toward the end of your post you go ogre on us! :-)

Looks a little off but if this person is happy with it, then that's all that really matters.
Tattoos are a touchy subject, just like religion or politics. People either love them or hate them, and a true fan of the art of tattoo's isn't really against any type of tattoo, be it from video games or movies.
I myself have many gaming related tattoos, most of my right leg/thigh is covered in tattoos from the Legend of Zelda. I love the Artwork, a mixture of the pieces I've brought in and the artist's touch.
I've got some Kingdom Heart ones, Metal Gear Solid, and my personal favorite, Heath Ledger as the Joker.
Sure, some of them may be overdone or seem just plain silly to people, but all that really matters is that I enjoy them on my body.

Yeah well, maybe i am a bit touchy on the subject, but reading every day bull from people who have absolutly NO IDEA of what they talking of is getting me going ;)
People come here and say "whooo look at that crap piece of art, what an idiot that must be", who are you to judge em while you dont even know the person behind it ?
Maybe it isnt done perfect, but if he is happy with it.... then shut your piehole and let it be, its NONE of your business.
Bodyart can be a wonderful thing, just take a look at:

There have been many times I've concidered getting a tattoo of my undead warrior and human warrior battling it out. Then I think to myself "I already have a tattoo of Spider-Man hanging upside down on a strand of webbing from my left nipple. Do I really need another tattoo to fly my geek flag any higher?". LOL

I do like how it is instantly assumed that I don’t have a tattoo because I laughed at a druid flight form from WoW on some guy’s arm. My last sitting was nearly 7 hours, so trust me, I know what getting a tattoo is all about.
Also, don’t assume that every person with a counter opinion to yours is some coward hiding behind a keyboard.

Granted that the artwork could have been a little higher quality, I actually think that it's a fairly good choice for a WoW tattoo. People who play will recognize it immediately, people who don't play will simply see a fantasy-type bird.
The person wearing it (who is the only one who really matters in the end, since it's their body) will have a piece of art that commemorates the period of their life that they spent enjoying the game.
In fifteen years, if they've moved on to a new game or quit gaming, it will be a tattoo with a story that they can explain or not explain as they choose while still bringing back the memory of the good times playing WoW.
None of my tattoos are WoW-related and I don't currently have plans to get one in that theme, but if I did, it would probably be something in this vein - obvious to those who play, but just another piece of fantasy artwork with a little more individuality than most to those who don't.

Since it's my tattoo I decided to comment too...
I didn't realize wowinsider would comment on it, I sent it in to be added to the tattoo board...not that I care that they commented, doesn't matter to me....
I love it, I had wanted it for over a year before doing it.
I'm over 40 and this is my one and only tattoo, so I'm not really worried about 10 years from now, or who likes it and who doesn't..... I do and that is really all that matters ...
One of the things I like most about it is that if you don't play wow, you wouldn't even know what it was...you'd assume it was just some mythical bird.
PS.....
DC, bet I get laid more then you ;P

Well I know Zee personally and this picture doesn't even come close to doing that tatt justice. The guys did a tremendous job on it. Those in the game call her Z and even managed to work that Z into that tatt itself. As for having regrets later in life, she's 46 years old, this is her first tattoo. Something she thought long and hard about for over a year. Don't think there will ever be any regrets. She's quite proud of it, as she should be :)
