WoW Moviewatch: Warsong Defensive Event Trailer
This isn't the first one we've seen, but I love it when we get trailers for roleplay groups or roleplay events. The Warsong Defensive on Shatar (EU) is holding a roleplay event from February 8th until February 15th. As the story goes, a disgruntled Scourge fellow named Paggorn is stepping up to the plate at Wrathgate, and ready to lay some smackdown on the Scourge. You can find more about the event on the official forums. This is the trailer for that event, cunningly titled Warsong Defensive Event Trailer.
The author apologizes for letting the music drown out some of the narration, which I have to admit is probably the most distracting part of the trailer. Other than that, the whole thing was pretty good, when viewed from the lens of something to get you roleplaying. The movie has equal parts effects-stylization and raw in-game graphics. I think when you're putting together a roleplaying trailer, you can't stray too far away from in-game graphics, because then you're distancing yourself from the immersion you want to feel in game. The music is pretty solid and motivating.
I think the only criticism I'd really have is that the trailer should do more to promote what's happening at the event. It's a pretty awesome video, but it does leave me wondering what will happen at the event itself. Still, it does make guess about whether I can get a character ready in time for the event, which probably means the movie succeeded.

Awesome video! Good job.

The video itself was great work, but I am sorry to say that the voice over put me off extremely. It sounded pretentious, like a teenager going "I'm so totally badass!". I recommend putting more thought into how the character would sound realistically when telling their story. Also, speak past the mic, not into it ;)

Yeah...neat job on the video but it sounded like if that person were speaking on vent. The voice over portion needs to sound cleaner.

No idea where in the world you're from but that's pretty much how we all sound round my neck of the woods.
"Also, speak past the mic, not into it"

I'm so sorry that I'm unable to deliver the professional, studio quality sound that you so desire from my USB headset and free copy of Windows Sound Recorded but I do my best.

Nice comeback on the defensive, true they may have pointed out the flaws rather descriptively but they have very valid points.
I think the hard work that went into your trailer was outstanding but not perfect, harsh words from others are harsh words and are basically how they perceived it, I would take what they said with a pinch of salt and move on.

You can't really expect formidable sound quality, after all they are Machinima, e.g. amateur movies made by WoW fans, using amateur tools to their disposal. Not everyone sounds like an Orc in real life, either.
At least he sounded like someone speaking clearly on Vent and not like one of the "I actually have a bucket over my head and I'm sitting in a cave" type of Vent people.
On to the actual movie content, as Michael said it makes you wonder about the event, which is a good thing as it is a promotional trailer for the event.
And since it is in Warsong Hold, you can participate even as a lv 1, just hop on the correct zeppelin and you're there in no time I reckon.

Obvious Jack says: If you have a high-pitched teenaged voice, you shouldn't voice-over a scourge.

I find having the mic under the chin helps prevent that badness. If only I'd remembered that when recording :P
@ Thorie. Being a 23 year old Scotsman I can assure you the last thing I have is a high-pitched teenage voice.

Skullsmasher, get a pop filter for your mic and if you dont want to spend the money on that take a pencil and hold it to the side of the mic your talking into this will decrease the amount of air that hits the mic. If need be I can help you with fixing up the audio.

How is it high pitched..? Plus its an orc character i figured that much was obvious. That is Skullsmasher's real voice...I used no audio editing :)

I ripped one sound clip...:P I accept constructive critisicm like above, but this was in no way constructive.
Everything in this video i put together with my own recordings, and every sound effect was individual wav files.
