3D Armory does what it says on the tin
There are many Armory sites out there, since Blizzard had the foresight to put the Armory data in XML so anyone who wanted to could use it in alternate presentations. 3D Armory is a new Armory site, just released into public beta. As you might have guessed, the focus of the site is on loading your character's data and displaying a 3D model of your toon; for instance, at top right you can see my death knight and how his gear looks in-game (yes, I'm still wearing my heirloom shoulders).
It does what it sets out to do, and does it pretty well: just select "eu" or "us" from the popup at the top of the page, type in your realm and character name, and hit go. Points off for having cryptic icons for all the functionality with only tooltips to indicate what they might do - I'm a big fan of obvious UI over flashy-looking UI.
Of course, like any site that relies on Armory data, it doesn't know what haircut or skin your character is using, so the model isn't going to be 100% accurate. Still, it's pretty good. As well as the central 3D model, it also includes a listing of all your items with gems and enchants - good for auditing people that are trying to join your pugs (for this reason, I wish there as a column in the item listing for item level).
There is some additional functionality revolving around voting on characters - on any character's page, you can vote the character "hot" or "not" (/sigh), and there's a listing in the right-hand column of the current hottest toons. This is a bit ill-conceived, but it doesn't really hurt, I guess. It's still a very handy and pretty fast site for achieving its main goal: displaying characters' gear in 3D. And it's still under heavy development, so more features will surely be added in the near future.

"Fixed Tier7 set chests rendering bug. Check it here. If you still find bugged T7 chests, please contact or use the forums." but their forums are not working now, so nvm :)

Actually a very nice feature. I would like to see a better and more logical user interface though. The current layout is kind off chaotic.

We got 2 more servers now and more RAMS. The site right now seems highly avaible.

No "Go" button for me.
I just get a message below the input boxes saying:
"* Adobe Flash 10 and Firefox 3 or Internet Explorer 7 is required for proper model viewing"
I have all three of them. Shame doesn't work!

It's the icon to the right of "Name:" it's a tad confusing and totally doesn't look like a "Go" button or anything of the sort.
If you were in MC you know it as Finkle's Lava Dredger :)
Chironous Jan 30th 2009 3:57AM
I've double checked and I'm seeing no button at all next to the "Name".
See screenshot here:

Any ideas?
Cheers!

Anybody cannot see the models on FF3 on RH linux?
Just updated flash (after getting the "Flash 10 needed" message), but now in the flash app nothing render (cleared the cache too).
(Almost surely isn't an issue of the site, I blame my sys admins...)

Solved, it probably was a problem with the FlashBlock FF extension.

I know Quickarmory has had something similar for a while, they both seem to be powered by Wowhead's model viewer so they both share the same quirks (my shirt overlaps my chest piece).

Cool website, but ugh . . . this just reminds me why I never have the helmet turned on in the display options. Why must the Titansteel helms look so goofy?
Soulbento Jan 30th 2009 7:46AM
This isn't really a new idea...a lot of sites have been offering this exact thing + theorycrafting and auditing tools for a while now. Warcrafter.net comes to mind.

They need to "not load" tabards or they need to figure out how to pull the artwork. I get a big gray chest because the tabard shows up blank.

WHile the site is down, here's a quick script to import your character into the Wowhead 3d model viewer: http://alrub.com/3darmory.php
Thundrcrackr Jan 30th 2009 11:10AM
Didn't work.
Will Jan 30th 2009 11:44AM
I've been looking everywhere for a site like this, ever since WoW Model Viewer got bugged (you can still load it but the animations don't work and it does some really weird things).
When I roll a new class I tend to try and go for the race that looks the best in the highest tier armour available.. the hardest for me was Tauren or Orc warrior? I went with Orc :)

And here we have another completely useless site to add to the downing of the Armory.
