Somewhat unrelated/related I’ve occasionally mulled over the similarities/differences of Blizzard (the creator of its world) to a "real god" (supposed creator of real world).
My thought starts like this:
Say you are God. You do the creation thing. Bamn, world. Ok.
Now, how do you talk to your people in this world you have created?
You decide to create a shrine for them to communicate in. When they wish for you to hear them, it shall be in this location.
You let them know what the deal is:
"Hello WOW community, this is Blizzard speaking. We would like to welcome you to our forums. Please let us know how you are feeling about the game. We hear you and want to know your thoughts on our game".
At first, they give you praise:
"Great job Blizzard, awesome game!"
"This world is so exciting. Thank you!"
As time goes on, the hard parts you put in this world to help people challenge themselves and develop into better people with a greater knowledge, is causing them dismay. They remember that you are still listening, and turn their communication center into a complaint center:
“Blizzard hear my prayer. This shiz is hard. Make it easy."
You love your people so you tell them though your messengers that you still hear them, and will work to fix a few things to make everyone happy. (While you have a master plan, they can't see this, and you sympathize.)
Your angels go down to the Forums and spread the word:
"Blue here. Blizzard is working on it. Hang in there."
You think this should appease your citizens, and that they will go back to praise and contentment... enjoying this beautiful world you created. But something else happens…
Now they KNOW they can change their world by crying and praying loud enough, because you did it once for them before. The shrine is filled with a cacophony of wailing for changes from everyone, over every little thing. The place has never been so full! Many of the pleas are conflicting and often don't even make sense. Surely you would have been far better off ignoring them to begin with, not even giving them a shrine since clearly these irrational little beings just can't be happy no matter what you do. Jerks.
And this finally is the TLDR part where I come to the conclusion: Perhaps if there is a real god (or spaghetti monster) He/She/it is a little more all-knowing and realizes full well that we're a bunch of whiners, who are actually more content when we wonder if a God is even there to listen to all that bitching. Makes you wonder.
