Warcraft Chest and WoWTalent for iPhone
We posted about the Warcraft Characters app for the iPhone a while ago, and it's still the best way on Apple's mobile device to check your (or anyone else's) Armory entries. But a few other iPhone apps have popped up that might be useful to World of Warcraft fans -- both of these are free and both are worth checking out.Warcraft Chest will let you look at drops from all bosses in dungeons and raids, rep rewards, Badge items, and PvP rewards. So if you want to drool over your favorite items while away from the game, it'll let you do just that. Unfortunately, the interface is a little boring, as it's just your normal iPhone app; it would be nice to see some kind of Loot List functionality, where you could sort items by class or type. But if you're invited to a Heroic and want to see what drops in there without alt-tabbing out of your game, there you go.
And WoWTalent will do the same thing for class talents -- you can browse through all the talent specs of every class, including all the Hunter pets and the various talents that come with each tree there. You can load and save trees to show your friends later, but unfortunately, there's no way right now to share them online -- the WoWHead talent trees are pretty URL-hackable, and it would be nice to be able to export a tree you create in WoWTalent out to a URL you can email or even tweet. But for browsing talents away from the game on the iPhone, it too works. As I said, both apps are free and available now.

Almost makes me wish I didn't destroy my old iPhone. I've since gone Blackberry; I wish there were cool apps for Blackberrys.
However, I'm not sure I'd like to have someone go through my phone and find I was armoying stuff, heh.

Sigh...our master looter distributed Broken Promise to someone else on accident when I rolled higher. GM said the person with the item had to petition to give it to me but Blizzard is taking their time getting this matter situated and I cry everytime I log in without seeing the item in the aforementioned picture.

On another note, I'll be picking up some of these apps for my iPod touch. I never knew these existed so I'm excited to check them out.

I was MT'ing nax 10 and our master looter gave a +spirit trinket to me by accident. It took over 3 or 4 days to finally get the trinket to the priest that rolled and won it and the first GM I spoke to had to escalate the issue. It seemed to me that they didn't actually transfer the item until the Tuesday maintenance, so you might be waiting for a while. Keep your chin up!

On the other hand, some dps warrior rolled against me for Gored Hide Legguards one night, filed a report and I had them when I logged in again the next morning. I guess it just depends on the GM.

I remember when our guild was running SC, and the RL gave the loot to the wrong DKP bid, best SSC run ever, a GM teleported to out instance, turned us all into gnome or human pirates (and our hunter pets into skeletons) had a laugh, and did the item swap then and there. Maybe sunday nights are quiet, or maybe this guy was smoking too much of the peace pipe, but it was totally awesome.

further to the above, both the RL and the person who recieved the trinket in error had ticketed to explain, so that probably expedited the whole process. :-/

Now I just need Rawr for the iPhone and my geek-on-the-go toolkit will be complete.

I just downloaded all of these Apps on my phone a few days ago, and they're fantastic. I can waste an entire train ride looking up Loot or building talent trees.

Come on Blizz, you know we all want a portable AH checker! ;)

Are there any programs like this for other phones? I have a treo and would love to have some options.

I have used the Character profiles for a while, and just got the Chest and talent calculator a few weeks ago. I LOVE the character lookups, but it seemed like there were items missing from the loot tables in the chest, and it would be great to see crafted items too! :) But I guess this is a discussion for the developer, not the WoWI forum. So I'll just trail off here...

You know you're obsessed with WoW when you have apps on your iPhone and you're checking things like this.
Granted it's beneficial if you're in a raid and want to know what drops.

You say, "obsessed" like its a bad thing...

These are all great apps. I've had them since at least October and I love 'em. True they are not the end all be all for loot, but Chest does a great job getting me through some boring times at work fawning over the pretty purples.

I use both of these apps on the iPhone (and the prior mentioned character app as well) and they are very nice at giving exactly what you said Mike, quick access to information without having to Alt-Tab out of game.
Both come in handy, though do have some short-comings, but no necessarily anything you wouldn't expect from a free app. Were they paid for I'd expect a bit more functionality.
All in all, if you have an iPhone it is plain silly to NOT have these apps. They certainly do have their merit and come in handy more times then you'd think.

WoWTalent is great, but I find Warcraft Chest to be very sloppy. There are quite a few problems with the lists when it comes to Wrath content. It needs work, and hasn't been updated in a few months.

I actually downloaded both of these apps the same day I got my iPhone, on Christmas day. I like WoWTalent a lot, though it took me a while to figure out how to delete points and whatnot, since I'm not one for reading directions.
I like Warcraft Chest as well, but it's usefulness is very limited. For one, there is no filtering, and second of all, you can only see dungeon/raid drops. You can't even see tier gear, which I think is a major oversight. I would have preferred Chest if they had just copied wowhead and made it available offline, maybe even iTouch friendly (wowhead is usable on an iTouch, though it is sort of difficult to navigate).
