Phat Loot Phriday: Red Sword of Courage

- Which, yes, means this is a tanking sword (so you Hunters out there, keep your grubby hands off of it -- first, because there are better ways to get the hit and Stam, and second because you'll get /gkicked for even looking at it). This is a non-Naxx sword that can definitely be used to enter Naxx and do some tanking in there, so if you're aiming to get geared up for raid tanking, keep an eye out this one as you run Heroics.
- And the name seems to be influenced by the novel everyone reads in junior high, Stephen Crane's Red Badge of Courage, about a young man who runs from battle because he doesn't know any better. So maybe this is a Rogue weapon after all.
And if you don't, you can always have another tank drag you into Naxx and help you get the sword foretold by Salzman from Accounting.
Getting Rid of It: Keep it until you get the aforementioned Slayer of the Lifeless -- it'll serve you very well in the early endgame. After that, you can sell it for 19g 20s 38c or disenchant it intoan Abyss Crystal.

Not as good as last laugh. Used it until then though. Great sword.
Hokuto Jan 30th 2009 7:26PM
Not as good as a drop from the last boss on a 25-man, which also drops other 5 or 6 best-in-slot weapons? Outrageous!
Manatank Jan 30th 2009 7:43PM
I guess what I meant was it is an excellent weapon up until the best in game. The other tanking weapons available in the game are more side-grades than upgrades until that one. A very good sword to have.

We know. The book is mentioned in the article.
and... grats?
mysticalos Jan 30th 2009 7:10PM
Ive run up 23 times now. Has not droppes yet. Seen belt 18 times and 5 leather gloves
Manatank Jan 30th 2009 7:12PM
Brutal. I think I'd cut myself.

I feel for you mysticalos.
Mine dropped on my 16th run and I considered myself unlucky (5.5% chance to not drop 15 times, assuming 17.5953% drop rate), but your bad luck is much worse (1.2%). May the force be with you on your next run.

Sounds familiar.
Ran it last night, the stupid belt dropped again.
I take consolation in the fact that I now have a shiny new blue mount. Somehow I won every orb that dropped on 5 ruins that night, any green I rolled on and every crystal, but my sword was refusing to drop.
Oh and Gothic's a punk. Stupid eternally folded blade...

My guild's MT and I (healer) have run this instance every day for almost 2 weeks, and we have yet to get the sword to drop for him.
Reminds me of me trying to get the mace from Nexus, only twice as bad. Just finished it earlier today for the 12th time and still no sword.
Ah well...that's the RNG for you, right?

Aw, now I feel bad. That's RNG for you indeed. I don't even want to think about how many times I ran Mech without ever seeing the Sun Eater.
automator Jan 31st 2009 12:26PM
Great. Just what I need, another Sun Eater to chase after (36 runs in H Mech).
Gessilea Jan 30th 2009 7:16PM
This dropped for me the first and only time I've tanked UP - was definitly one of those moments where I forgot it's only a game and ran around the house yelling "YES! YES!" I love the design, too. One of the most awesome looking non-druid weapon models in the game, IMHO.
Reddeth Jan 31st 2009 5:11PM
OK, whenever someone tells a story like this, I can only respond with:
"I hate you."
(Damned thing still hasn't dropped for me.)
;)
Gessilea Jan 31st 2009 6:47PM
To that I can only say *huggles*!
InsaneAssault Jan 30th 2009 7:19PM
I'm curious. Where is the tauren warrior pic rendered from? It doesn't look like an ingame screenshot. Was it that 3D site that was mentioned a few days ago?
deplicitus Feb 21st 2009 11:26PM
Its in game, if you turn the shadow settings in the game up you can get wow to look like that, kills your framerate though.
Tumleren Jan 30th 2009 7:36PM
...Dalaran?
It's in-game with everything set to the highest as far as i can see
Hokuto Jan 30th 2009 7:29PM
Sadly, it's a good starter sword for DW DKs. Good weapon damage, speed, strength and +hit.
HotTankInjection Jan 30th 2009 7:55PM
You should not be duel-wield tanking under any circumstances.
