The Queue: Last rites

Another day, another Queue! Let's jump right in, hm?

What's the situation about the aesthetic minor glyphs? Could we see them in a future? What's the last thing Blizzard told us about them? Are people in the official forums still demanding them?
We haven't heard anything about this in awhile, but last time we heard about it they wanted to avoid using glyphs for aesthetics. It basically boils down to a choice players shouldn't have to make in that situation: Do I want to look pretty, or do I want to maximize how effective I am?
If they make big aesthetic changes or options, we'll probably see them in a different way. A barber shop sort of deal, rather than a glyph or an enchant. A lot of people still want the aesthetic minor glyphs, yes, but it wouldn't be a good solution in the long run.

My subscription runs out on the 31st January, and I don't plan on resubscribing. I've made my mind up about quitting, but I was just wondering if there's anything I really should do before quitting? I'm a level 80 undead warlock with mainly heroic gear with the odd epic. I don't have time for raiding, but have done all the heroic instances. So is there something I really ought to experience before my WoW life comes to an end?
If you've done all of the dungeons and Heroics available to you, I would look to quests. There are a lot of key chains in Wrath of the Lich King that really make the experience. The first of those would be the Death Knight starting quests, naturally. They're pretty amazingly well done.
After that, make sure you've seen the Wrath Gate event (spoilers) in the Dragonblight, and the Sons of Hodir chain in Storm Peaks. There are a whole lot of great quests in Wrath, but those three chains in particular are ones I think everyone should do.
If you haven't done so yet, try out Wintergrasp and Strand of the Ancients. Even if you don't like PvP, they're worth seeing at least once or twice.
Those are my personal, very simple recommendations. Hopefully our readers will give you a few more ideas in the comments below today, like they were doing yesterday. You should go back and check those out, by the way. There were a few good ones.

What ever happened to the proposed Death Knight spell that put the enemy into a dark bubble that would deal damage to them when they were healed? I heard a lot about that spell early in the expansion days, but it just.. disappeared. Any idea why this was turned down?
Ooooooverpowered. You can only really put so much anti-Healing in the game before you kill healing utterly. This ability would have been crazy, crazy powerful, so it wasn't used. Death Knights can still remove HoTs (without proccing Lifebloom's bloom) with Plague Strike, but that's the extent of it.
Darksbane asked...
When flying from Dalaran to the Basin when I pass in front of icecrown citadel I start getting pulled in. Almost like i"m hitting an invisible 'soft' wall. I can fly through it if I change my direction but if I try to fly in a straight line it will gradually pull me in. Also my flight form will screech. What is that?
There are invisible walls that try to push you off course from flying over Wintergrasp. They'll push you toward a slightly more safe route, so you don't AFK fly over Wintergrasp (a no-fly zone) and get knocked off your mount, plummeting to your death.
(Note, 'plummeting to your death' was hyperbole. I know you get a parachute. Yeesh.)

In 3.0, ret pallies are now pretty decent, so you should be able to do competitive dps near the top of charts w/ proper gear and skill. Therefore is your low dps caused by a lack of gear or lack of skill? If you are undergeared, thats what raiding is for, to help you gear up. If you think it might be yourself, you can find go to websites such as elitistjerks.com for tips on improving your dps.
Either way, I would leave a guild that repeatedly kicks you from raids instead of helping you catch up. Kicking you from raids does nothing to help you improve and speaks of a selfish guild/raid. The only justification to kick is if the guy is totally braindead and singlehandedly causing unnecessary wipes. (something which some pugs appear capable of)

Ret can do competitive DPS. As some others have suggested, check out the elitistjerks class forums for ret to see if there's room to improve your spec and rotation.
I would expect a little help from your guild for things like heroic groups if there is non-raid gear that would help your performance.
I wouldn't expect for them to teach you how to play your class or for help figuring out how to spec, gem, enchant, or choose gear unless you have a higher performing Pally around who doesn't mind answering questions.

Did they remove the ability to buy Ruby Shades from Haris Pilton? I camped them for a while and the never spawned.

Well what is your dps? Not everyone can be #1 but if you're consistently right above the tank or below 2000 on a raid boss, I would probably eventually kick you too, especially if better gear and knowledge wasn't raising your numbers. The ret pallies in my guild easily clear 3000 dps in 10man naxx.

What is the whole probeleme between booty bay and the goblins and the bloodsail bucaners? I don't get it.
Falcio Jan 30th 2009 2:49PM
They're pirates!
...
Obviously, the Booty Bay goblins were jealous of them and want them destroyed.
Cyrus Jan 30th 2009 2:54PM
The Steamwheedle Cartel is the major commercial empire in Azeroth and the closest thing to a legitimate legal authority in Stranglethorn and Tanaris. The Bloodsail Buccaneers are pirates. Pirates aren't good for other peoples' business, or for law and order.

The Goblins are secretly run by a cabal of Ninja.

Your pet doesn't get a parachute though.
It is strangely disconcerting to look up at your hunter friend and see a Rhino appear out of nowhere and fall from the sky...
ayri Jan 30th 2009 4:55PM
But is there a bowl of petunias?
Candina@WH Jan 30th 2009 4:59PM
Voted up for the gratouitous Hitchhikers guide to the universe Meme...

Voting up Candina@WH for recognizing that and voting it up since Ayri is already voted to max.

About the invisible walls, I think that answer is wrong.
If you control WG, there are no walls and you can fly in. If you don't control it and it's contested, you get the walls. It's to keep you out of the keep in the back if you don't hold WG. you can still fly in from any other spot regardless.
Faithful Jan 30th 2009 3:09PM
I don't know about that parchute, my experiences with it end up with me eating dirt aas a parachute leaves me behind...
I have parachuted once, all other times I am knocked off my mount before the timer is over, and always "plummet to my death."
Damn you ACME CORP!
Danel Jan 30th 2009 7:48PM
I can top that - I fell straight down and hit a mountain, losing about three quarters of my health. THEN the parachute popped out, and I safely fell... about a foot, before falling again the rest of the way to a particularly annoying death.

Hey uh, so not to ask awkward questions, but why are the scourge still invading us? I had a handle on it when they were being controlled by the Burning Legion, but why would Arthas/Ner'zhul have an interest in eradicating all humans/orcs?
AyaJulia Jan 30th 2009 4:07PM
Seems like the same answer that fits most other movie/game villains fits here: They've simply been twisted into ultimate insanity at this point and wish nothing but mass destruction and/or world domination.
Devant Jan 30th 2009 4:42PM
Most of the flavor text in the game points to the fact that the scourge honestly believe death as a superior existence to life.
Riftsrunner Jan 30th 2009 4:52PM
Power? To rule the world? The added bonus is that your enemies are now your willing slaves.
Chris Jan 30th 2009 3:18PM
I've been 80 now for a couple weeks on my DK but don't have the time to raid, let alone gear up for heroics just quite yet. So, to get my daily dose of WoW - I've resorted back to leveling alts.
With my main as a DK I am able to maintain a good chunk of change, should I fess up and get a flying mount or spread the wealth and get my 60+ alts the 100% riding skill?
In the end I guess its just in-game money, but seeing other chars with netherwings etc, seems pretty fun and a great way to see new content.
Thanks for the help :)
