Zarhym: Artists are "hacking away at" new dances
Okay, so we've been hearing this for a while now. The Dance Studio is coming at some point during Wrath, it's just been delayed. There's been no word about that beyond it though. We're not even sure if they have a rough target patch for it. It's just sort of out there, that unanswered question: Dude, where's my feature?
Zarhym spoke out on it again the other day, and while on one level it's more of the same "it's coming when it comes" type of talk we've heard before, he does say that the art team is "hacking away" at it when they aren't faced with more looming deadlines like Ulduar. This is probably the first time that I can recall that we have had someone from the Blizzard team saying that yes, it is being actively worked on.
Now admittedly, this still isn't a release date, and I'm still not expecting it until at least 3.3, but it's out there, which is the good thing. Here's looking forward to the day when I can have my Human Death Knight start dancing the Matt Dance.

Heh. I can't wait for my human to do the orc dance. MC Myk!

I hope it's more than what they did with the barber shop...I'd love for there to be more new dances to choose from instead of just...you can pick a dance that other races have.

Though obviously, I'd rather see new instance content and class balancing than this so whatever. :P

I agree.
I think if artists are on it, we can be sure there will be new ones though.
I just want my Undead rogue to be able to dance Thriller....

And when the 13 year olds can customize their own "dances", there will be toons in every town, in every zone, on every server, humping everything in sight. That is untill some parent sees and complains and WoW's "T" rating comes under review by the ESRB...
JDM Feb 1st 2009 6:54AM
The game itself is rated "T for Teen", but if you'll note, there is a disclaimer: "Game Experience May Change During Online Play". Since day 1, my online experience has been "M for Mature" -or higher-. Suggestive/erotic dancing seems mild when compared to the /s and /e ERP happening in Goldshire and Silvermoon around the clock - nevermind the foul and sexual language that comes from all the people who play the game.

Glad to see they are paying attention to getting those dance studios done, now that they have totally addressed all the problems with class balance in PVP...
Oh wait...
/cry

Why is it that everytime there's an article posted about a change that has nothing to do with PvP balancing, there's always summon who makes a sarcastic remark like that?
I HIGHLY doubt that with a dev team the size of what Blizz has, they're throwing all of their resources into making sure we can change our character's dance. I also highly doubt that this thing is even very high on their list of priorities. I took this article as more of a "Hay guys, just so you know, we haven't forgotten about X or Y yet."
It's like Clamgate from a few weeks ago all over again.
AutumnBringer Jan 31st 2009 8:57PM
They are aggressively addressing PvP issues, so calm down!! Didn't you see the new patch notes? You can now open clams while PvPing and performing your new dance - even works while you're stunlocked (though the dance is reduced to a small foot tapping thing for the duration of any stun effects). I think that should resolve everyone's complaints.
But yeah, people flipped out to ridiculous proportions about the clams and do seem to always have that comment of "Why are they doing x to the game instead of working on y?" Because there is one guy, Mr. Craft, he makes all the changes to the game and can only change one thing at a time.

"...the art team is "hacking away" at it when they aren't faced with more looming deadlines like Ulduar."
Notice the -art team- part.
People always seem to get confused with stuff like this... An animator cannot balance pvp, and the people in charge of toying with balance cannot animate a dance.
There is no resource diversion here.

I can't find a video ANYWHERE on the internet of the old Tauren Female dance. When WOW was new, we used to do a type of riverdance. ( I think it may have been the same one the female dwarf has, not sure though.) I miss that dance.
When they put in the new dance studio, I want my tappity hoof dance back. (in addition to some new moves of course). The electric slide is kinda cool (I like the foot stomp part), but it just isn't the same. :(

Yeah, I can second this. I'd much rather have my human female characters doing that than... the macarena.

I submit that this is a better link to view the dance:

I'm hoping it'll let you do dances not only from other races but other sexes, I want the male forsaken dance.

Dance studios can't come fast enough for the BEs. I'm still quite annoyed I have to be reminded of that lame duck movie everytime my mage wants to bust a groove on the mail box.

I've always wanted my character to do the Time Warp, maybe I can finally have that dream come true.

Shouldn't be too hard, I mean it's just a jump to the left...
