BigRedKitty: Power Auras

Daniel Howell contributes BigRedKitty, a column with strategies, tips and tricks for and about the Hunter class, sprinkled with a healthy dose of completely improper, sometimes libelous, personal commentary.
Although the movie covers a great deal about the addon, something we didn't mention was the fact that one can export and import codes for any aura one creates. On the continued page, you'll find the codes for all seven auras we demonstrate in the movie.
Here are importable codes for the auras we used in our movie. The codes are very long so they don't work well with the formatting features here. We've made little text files you can download. /win
Hunter's Mark - when the enemy no longer has any hunter's Hunter's Mark applied.
Lock and Load - when Lock and Load has proc'd.
Aspect of the Viper - when the hunter has cast Aspect of the Viper.
Low Mana - when one's mana-level is at or below 5% of capacity.
Full Mana - when one's mana-level is at or above 95% of capacity.
Explosive Shot - when the Explosive Shot debuff applied to the enemy and shows the two-second countdown clock.

i use this mod since a year or close to that... and it is totaly amazing and a MUST have for classes like enh shaman and other that have a "stacking buff" (maelstrom) etc...

One thing that he didn't point out here that I fine IMMENSELY helpful as a MM hunter is to configure it to show your trinket procs. I forget the name of the Mirror proc buff at the moment, but in the heat of battle it can be very hard to notice it going off in a blizzard of scrolling battle text.
It's quite nice to know when you have your extra 1kAP! Reapply your SStng to make sure it's ticking at the highest level (Remember as a MM, you are trying to keep the same SStng up the whole fight with Chimera, which will also do more damage with a bigger SStng applied)pop your other trinket, pop your rapid fire (or readiness) and blast away :)

That was pre 3.0.1. The Glyph of Steady Shot causes increased damage from SS if you have Serpent Sting up on the target -- suddenly Serpent Sting is something you can't live without.

Power Auras is one of my core "can't-live-without" addons. I use it with all my toons, and I can't overstate how useful the addon is. I've used the addon for ages, and BRK's video is an excellent introduction.
My tip for Power Auras is to take advantage of its sound alert feature. Not only can you make it display pretty animated graphics, but having an audio alert is even more powerful. You would be amazed by how effective an audio alert can be when your screen is a chaotic mess of graphics when in combat.

BRK was a coold BM player ... now under the SV epidemic mania. Let's wait Blizzard buff BM and nerf a little SV and he'll be back.

Does it work for Paladins as well?

It works with all classes, though its a bit of a pain to get configured. I only have one set up on my paladin (to show when I'm in combat and Holy Shield is not up).
I have my mage's configured to show:
a) when my Pyroblast procs (In combat only)
b) when I'm at less than 40% mana
c) when I'm at less than 30% health.
d) When my Molten Armor goes down (In combat only)
I keep meaning to do other things with it, but never quite remember. lol

Said video won't load here.. =/ But I use "TellMeWhen", I guess it's pretty much the same thing. Since I PVP I configured it to also show when Divine Shield, Mind Presence and Ice Block is up in the target, and the time remaining.

I went MM right before the Great Nerf due to suddenly realizing how much I suck at keeping my pet alive. I use a priority rotation of Kill > Chimera > Arcane > Aimed > Steady, just hit whatever's highest on the list and off CD, and PowerAuras is *amazing* for that. I don't have to shift attention between my action bars and what's going on in the fight anymore; it's right there on screen what I need to hit next. Awesome addon.

I already use Mik Scrolling Battle Text to do this same stuff.
The difference is that MSBT pops up whatever text you want with a spell icon so you know exactly what it's reminding you to do.
Eg, when Serpent Sting runs out on the target (and only the sting that I applied, not from another hunter), it pops up the SS icon and text saying Reapply Serpent Sting. It plays sounds that I select as well. I have it configured to do similar stuff for switching between Dragonhawk and Viper, reapplying Hunter's Mark, etc. Also had one for Lock and Load when I tried out Survival for a few days.

Omfg! How haven't I seen that addon?? That's brilliant! I've been looking for an addon, that shows, when my seal/holy shield wears off, it warns me. I love it!
