Sunday Morning Funnies: Your nerf stick
This week, the Funnies are back on a Sunday that is actually a Sunday, and not a fake Sunday. While I do enjoy pretending, I figured I should probably keep it simple. The weeks where "morning" seems to mean "afternoon" are tricky enough!
- It seems that Cru the Dwarf needs to hurry.
- I hate being asked for heals. What do people think I'm doing other than staring at their bars, anyway? Still, healers shouldn't really walk away in the middle of a raid without saying they'll brb. Experience Points.
- Blood Elves sometimes get a little carried away when it comes to power (or hair). This week on Flintlocke vs. the Horde, the main "belf" gets a taste of it. I don't think she listens well either, what with all of that rage. Luckily, in the end, she gets a new hair accessory! Flintlocke vs. the Horde.
- Caught any coins lately? GU Comics: The Ruse.
- Check out the latest from LFG.
- Manic Graffiti will be undergoing some changes.
- NoObz illustrates how Youth has changed over the years.
- Unlike last week, when Ding! simply had not updated (perfectly preferable to the previous week), this week, there is indeed a comic. This was (is?) one of my favorites, so I'm hoping that it picks up again. If you really want to look, don't say I didn't warn you, while trying not to be blunt and trollish.
- Put Down Your Nerf Stick! says Teh Gladiators.
- Oh noes, Disgraph has not been updated! Nor was Dark Legacy Comics, come to think of it. The Scout Report also seems to be sans update, and its navigation bar is still a bit wonky. World of Warcraft, eh, also did not deliver on the promised sexy filler art. I'm not criticizing, I'm just QQ'ing. There's a difference. Clearly, our fave comic artists should always be around to entertain us for free.
- Check out a discussion about fun WoW pranks.
- BRK always has something hilarious in a pinch!
- Adam has a new 'Silent Bob' approach to raiding.
- Ghostcrawler made an unintentional funny! Well I laughed, anyway. In case it gets hit with an editing bat, the beginning of this particular blue response was, "From our POV, we assume you have Rel@%#%@hment just like we assume you have a tank."

...Ding is getting worse I believe, not one chuckle out of this one either. And if it is real stories from the players, what dumbass relm are they on to believe that jumping on these things will get you more blood? Then again they are Belfs....

Ding has been so full of fail lately. I'm really saddened by it, too, as it was the best in class before Scott decided to nerf it to the ground.
WTB ding back to the old days, PST!

Ding! was so full of fail the past two comics it has begun to rival Age Of Conan for the position on top of the totem pole of epic failures......I mean gimme a BREAK it has gone from awsome comic strip to a BLOG with cartoons about things that would have been mildy amusing/embaressing to the people at the time.
Cabcru Feb 1st 2009 11:51AM
The worse thing is, you have to wonder how the quality is going to fare from now on. I mean, Kurtz makes his big announcement and puts out a call for stories and one would assume they come flooding in. Going through them, he picks the choice cuts from the bunch as he wants to show this new idea can be a success. But if the last two seriously unfunny comics are examples of the cream of the crop, I'm not really looking forward to when we hit the dregs.
Well, at least he binned using screenshots as backgrounds. Man, that looked like ass.

I say you boycott linking Ding! comics until he gets his head out of his ass. This comic use to be great, now its lame. Next week its going to be a Barrens Chat joke, please save us the indignity.
Jay in Oregon Feb 2nd 2009 2:45PM
The Barrens Chat jokes have been done, and funnier:

http://pc.gamespy.com/flintlocke-vs-the-horde/episode-10-for-the-birds/942627p1.html
But yeah, Scott Kurtz has really let Ding! to go pot. First it was the art change, then it was the "I draw pictures to go with your stories" -- which would be okay except he either didn't get the flood of submissions he was hoping for, or he has REALLY bad judgment in what makes for a funny reader story.
And for all the people saying people shouldn't complain because it's free? It's NOT free for everyone. CrispyGamer hired or contracted Scott to draw a strip in order to draw traffic to their site. Even if he's doing it for free to help the guys at CG out, they're selling subscriptions based in part on the traffic that Ding! is supposed to generate.
CrispyGamer should cut Ding! loose so Scott can concentrate on PvP, because it's losing steam as well. Ever since Francis went from a hyperactive teenaged gamer to a slightly creepy 20-something perv, I haven't enjoyed the strip much.

Sheesh...am I the only one who liked Ding! this time around?
People, think back. Well beyond the days of yore, when you were a noob stalking around Tirisfal Glade, or Westfall, or wherever. Your task was simple...
BRING ME THE SNOUT/BLOOD/LIVER OF (insert creature here)...and I'll make you a pie!
15 whatevers later, still not a drop of blood, not one liver, not one single snout.
How does a creature live like that? All of these legless spiders, meatless striders, liver-less boars, bloodless hounds...
(it's called looking beyond the game to what would actually transpire if this were real...you know, using your imagination? Role-playing even just a little?)
Cabcru Feb 1st 2009 11:55AM
Because bludgeoning a boar with a mace, gouging it to shreds with a dagger or deep-frying it with waves of magic are guaranteed to leave you with a pristine corpse full to the brim of usable body parts? Maybe _you_ should consider what you'd end up with if this was real :)
Keyra Feb 1st 2009 11:59AM
And yet we can always guarantee a perfectly, pristine, unpunctured/ruptured murloc eye.
Holgar Feb 1st 2009 12:08PM
Ya it a drop rate joke............ that is more FAIL than the drop rate it is mocking.
I think of it this way, good comedy in the form he is trying to do is taking somthing we are all familiar with that is annoying or embarresing and making it funny.
Ding! is taking somthing we are all familiar with, I'm sure almost everyone that has played WoW has had a "drop rate from hell" and a fair number of people have had an auto follow related disaster. BUT there is no funny....... no punchline, no gag, just retelling an experience somone had that is likely similar to somthing you may have experienced.......
Cru Feb 1st 2009 11:20AM
I'm compelled to feel the same way for Ding! Less side action, more main comic. *whistles innocently*
Jason Feb 1st 2009 11:34AM
What's that picture of the guy and the nerf dart from? It looks familiar...
Cru Feb 1st 2009 11:55AM
The hair makes him look like Zach Braff (J.D.) from SCRUBS.
Knob Feb 1st 2009 12:32PM
Why are people still banging on about Replenishment?
Eisengel Feb 1st 2009 3:05PM
For those poor few of us that use standards-compliant web browsers on Linux, the crispygamer site model apparently would break if their page devs actually had their aspx pages use Document-Type headers... oh noes! So... here are deep links for the comics to save you from teh crispylamerz:
