Forum post of the day: Tick Tock

There are some things that seem odd, but actually appear to be common. Some examples include jumping when charging or when summoning a flying mount, obsession with repairing gear, and checking out what every linked item looks like. I have some of the habits mentioned in the thread, and a few others:
- I say "For Pony!" in vent when I charge a boss- with varying degrees of enthusiasm.
- I name my mounts- Muffin is still my favorite, whenever I rez my favorite healer I whisper "Arise, my champion!" and he usually responds with "At your side, milady."
- I check out every drop before I press greed in a group, even though I know I don't need greens.
- When I'm getting my bearing, I turn to the right.
- I jump when I go into instances.
- I have a Saitek Eclipse II Keyboard, I change the back-light color to red for arenas.
It's good to know that my behaviors are not really that out of line. What are your ticks, quirks, and other rituals?

Lol, I do that, too. I feel like you can get up to a higher altitude more quickly that way.

I do this too, and never noticed it until unlocking the Hyldnir dailies - I always end up jumping in the air as a big blue lady and keeping going. I love the Hyldnir costume + flight form.

*obsession with repairing gear, and checking out what every linked item looks like [...] I jump when I go into instances.*
I'm guilty of these xD

Me too; I love trying on everything. Long flight path? Atlas comes out; what can I try on? Although I love robes for my female toons it annoys me to no end when I can't see what I'm trying on looks like - pants under a robe or chest piece under a tabard. I've been known to de-robe in the AH just to see what things actually look like!
I also def do the jumping into instance portals and I too have an obsessive need to /sleep in the closest thing to a bed in the nearest inn whenever I log, preferably the same bed in the same inn. I have been known to wait a few minutes to log if someone else is on MY bed, such as the four-poster bed in the Dalaran inn ;p

I jump a lot. And run in circles. When I'm in a raid or a dungeon and waiting for something to happen, like people to get back from AFK or whatever, I do a lot of circle-running. Dunno why.

On every toon with a gathering prof, I turn in circles when hitting a node. Sort of scanning in every direction. I do this every time.
Mostly I do this to check if anyone is coming up behind me.
The odd thing is that I don't play on a PvP server.

rather than just turning the camera to look left or right, i turn my whole toon

I always, always, always move around during instances. Whether Im healing or DPS. On my druid, I jump around while Im healing, if I can, or spin, or strafe back and forth. I also very often jump places, rather than running, it's more fun.
I'm also obsessive compulsive when it comes to linked items, I always have to see what they look like (it doesn't help that most everything looks amazing on female orcs.)

The jumping before charge is something almost all warriors do I find.
But something I find that I do that a lot of people don't do, is I always jump before I thunderclap. There's something awe-inducing about watching a massive Tauren leap up into the air, landing with a mighty stomp, sending out seismic thunderclap.
Kemikalkadet Feb 2nd 2009 1:05PM
I do that with TC, charge, intercept and shouts too. I love it when there's a mob on a lower edge where you'd take fall damage usually, and you jump off and charge at just the right time so you zoom down towards it and dont take damage.
Tumleren Feb 2nd 2009 10:09AM
I jump whenever I can, no matter where I am or what I'm doing.
When ret, I always jumped while judging.
I constantly Alt-Tab out to Firefox or Messenger or something, even when nothing is going on.
Let's see..
I always strafe to both sides after cancelling a casting spell (or jump, sometimes both)
When I get slowed, I jump to avoid what ever is slowing me
I always jump when going off ledges or the like. I'ved died quite a few times because of this
I jump the second a mount is summoned, to make it jump straight up in the air
And probably a few other things i forgot
deadlylupine Feb 2nd 2009 10:10AM
I have that same keyboard. but it is always red.
When I mount, I always get it to say 'interrupted' and show me jumping in the air/moving forward, only right after to mount.
Blight Feb 2nd 2009 10:11AM
I always use the right banker/auctioneer.
I jump whenever I just finish mounting so my mount will pop up in the air in place when it appears.
I always use the spacebar animation on any horse mount before starting to run.
If there's a non combat pet nearby that makes noise when you click it, I will click it repeatedly.
I try to run around players and NPCs rather than through them.
Likewise, I will try to avoid standing on tables, counters, etc.
I jump whenever I cast instant cast spells.
I always shuffle a few steps forward, backwards, or to the side after rezzing someone so they don't appear exactly where I'm standing.

I do a lot of this, too. I don't jump when I mount but I do try to time it so I'm already moving forward when the mount appears, so usually that cloud of dust will be behind me. Sometimes if I'm lagging it doesn't work and I have to remount, which sucks, haha.
I like to strafe, sometimes in a circle around the mob, when I cast instant cast spells, and when I summon someone with a stone or my lock portal, I like to move over so they aren't standing on me when they get there.
When I'm waiting to fight a boss and the explanations are going on too long or we're waiting on someone, I almost always strafe and jump a few times to the left and right hoping for my BE twirly hop. I usually get one or two people to start jumping like that, too.
I also like jumping onto lamp posts in Dalaran and casting my summoning circle on them and jumping back up on them.
I first played melee classes but now I usually play casters. Even though my weapons do crap for melee damage, I still right click on a mob or a boss as if to auto-attack them. I've gotten out of the habit now that I have a dagger and off-hand though, it looks kinda stupid how you hold them, and if you try turning your toon while holding them it looks even stupider.
I think my favorite thing to do though is when I get on a zeppelin, if I have my Voidwalker out and I want the soul shard back, I'll park him on "stay" facing the zeppelin, then hop onto it myself, and as it flies away with me on it, I wave at him. It amused the crap out of me the first time I did it, like if you're leaving a dog you don't like at the gas station or something.

Jumping when going into instances is a classic I always do. And everytime I remember that comic that shows why we jump going into instances. It's a laugh.
I also run around and jump if we have downtime in a raid or instance, I think it shows I'm there, paying attention or ready to go. I also do /charge to show I'm eager to continue. =p
Not sure I have other habits but I know my husband ctrl+clicks everything to see what it looks like on his toon.
Mareb Feb 2nd 2009 10:12AM
When I'm waiting on something, like a raid leader explaining a fight way too long or waiting on people to come back from AFK, I will strafe back and forth very quickly. That is, I rapidly tap Q and E obsessively.
Zaltais Feb 2nd 2009 11:03AM
I always do this _while_ I'm explaining tacts on a boss, or preparing for a pull.
I also always jump when i'm going down stairs, even though I know that it won't get me there any faster and will most likely cause me to take fall damage.
automator Feb 2nd 2009 10:13AM
Any time some in a group wins a roll on any type of leggings, or a guildmate links their new leggings, I respond with "Nice Pants!"
Last Stand is tied to a macro that says "Kerrangg rubs his nipples in hopes of staving off the pain for a few more seconds."
Flairy Feb 2nd 2009 10:19AM
Before I log out for the night (after raids, or just hanging around), I organize my bags, mail off any sell-able or hoard-able items to my bank toons (one toon for cooking mats/cloth & leather, the other for everything else), then I log on both my bank toons and empty their mail and then organize their bags, bank, and guildbank (they each have their own guild for bank storage).
I only list auctions once a week, and on Tuesday afternoons.
I /jump out of red sh!t (or anything else that hurts).
I have a random pet script (I own 79 pets), but will keep hitting the hot key until a rare pet (non-vendor-sold) comes up.
I *always* have a pet out.
Iceflow Feb 2nd 2009 2:28PM
I also jump out of "red stuff" or any other aoe damage. (I get a lot of it seeing as I'm a rogue) For some reason, me jumping makes me get out of it faster (even though I probably don't).
