Tank Spot and WoW Achievements become official fansites
Tank Spot and WoW Achievements have both been added to the official World of Warcraft fansite program. The fansite program is Blizzard's way of recognizing sites they like, and really contains an
excellent listing of places to get your WoW fix (besides WoW Insider, of course).Tank Spot offers great community with forums, videos, and guides to virtually every aspect of tanking. The folks that frequent the site are quick to offer sound advice, and can often be seen on the official forums providing key discussion within the greater tanking community.
WoW Achievements is a relatively new site, and offers great information on all the achievements in-game and the players who earn them. One of the more interesting things on the site is a listing of the top players worldwide who've earned achievement points. If you're curious, the top player right now is Beelsebub over on Azuremyst EU. He's got 7630 achievement points, which is quite amazing.
If you're interested as to why WoW Insider is not part of the fansite program, you can check out an article by Mike Schramm back in August of last year.

inb4 Macbook plugs his site
Flairy Feb 2nd 2009 2:37PM
lol I saw that earlier today for the first time and was like ...wut? It had no relation to the thread at all.
Gnosh Feb 2nd 2009 2:46PM
his site's URL is apparently his manual signature, has been for months.
ticks me off to no end that he's plugging a WoW site, on a WoW site.
Adam Holisky Feb 2nd 2009 2:50PM
We're okay with this. Eventually maybe probably hopefully someday Soon (Blizzard definition) we should have a system that allows for signatures, etc... it's part of a revamped comment system that's in the works.
So for now, it's like he's doing the work himself, instead of using the eventual automated system.
SimpleSurvival Feb 2nd 2009 3:06PM
worst idea ever....
Why would you open the doors to the spamfest that signatures would create...
Its already bad enough when people post wholly irrelevant comments with a link back to their site just to manipulate google rank... or didn't you know thats what they were doing.
Instead of wasting time on signatures, why not work on comment threading, editing comments, and a better ranking system to handle irrelevant posts.
Pretty steep requests I know... you should stick to padding your post count and flame bating to generate comments. Pass this comment on to the higher ups tho.
uncaringbear Feb 2nd 2009 4:52PM
Oh god no, please do not allow commenters to use custom signatures. Your comment system is fragile enough as it is, and having the visual pollution and noise of signatures will pull it down even further.
Re: Tankspot, I have nothing but good things to say about this site. Although I tank very little these days, the information there is excellent for all classes.

Signatures FTW!
What's your problem with anybody posting her website so people like me can get to know it?
Gnosh Feb 3rd 2009 9:43AM
I've never seen a signature I've wanted to read more than once. That's really all I have to say.
I don't care what's in it. There's nothing you can put down in words that I need to read more than once on the same page.

Sites like wow-achievements.com help raise my little gnome self-esteem...top 100 on my server, woot!
Matchu Feb 2nd 2009 3:11PM
Tankspot's video in particular deserve all the praise they can get. They've been invaluable to me and my Guild in our progression through Naxx.
Avelon Feb 2nd 2009 3:15PM
Mep, the Webmaster of WoWAchievements, is a fellow guildmate of mine, and I'm so happy to see how successful his site's become. We had to put up with tons of his hyperactive coding mode, hehe.
Mep Feb 2nd 2009 5:19PM
lol, yea, I got pretty annoying, constantly coding during raids and such haha!
SimpleSurvival Feb 2nd 2009 3:21PM
Yah, tankspot is awesome!
WoW Achievements is pretty cool too, i just found out i'm #27 on my server for achievments! 3590 points so far.
Eldorian Feb 2nd 2009 4:20PM
Looks like WoW Vault was removed from the list.
I'm still surprised WoW Stratics is there considering the site is pretty much dead.
Zawer Feb 2nd 2009 4:28PM
Wow Achievements is not very a great site. It seems to only have info on characters that have been searched for. for example only 2 people from my guild show up and it says i am at the top of my guild which i know is not true. the other guild member that is listed on the site is only updated to a couple weeks ago when I first stated checking into the site.
So if you #27 on your realm it may be because not many people from your realm have used the site.

Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate your love of my site, and appreciate your thorough look through my FAQ section.
Clearly your overpowering knowledge of how the site works has allowed you to make such useful comments...
oh wait... ooooh duh, I forgot, the FAQ tells you exactly why the guild hasn't been updated... silly me. Shouldn't have assumed literacy :)
And yes, I assume not everyone would visit the FAQ site... that's fine, however, the "Refresh my guild" link on your personal page must have been very hard to miss.
Look forward to having you as a member of the community ;)
Zawer Feb 2nd 2009 6:18PM
Thank you for your insult Mep.
I have read your FAQ and I did click the refresh my guild button a couple weeks ago. I also Clicked the button again when I read this story. Still only showing two guild members a couple weeks after clicking refresh my guild.
Your FAQ says.
"As it stands, it is impossible to scan the entire armory without a little help, what that means is that you have MOST LIKELY been scanned, but if you aren't showing up you will need to do a quick search for your name using the text fields below the banner. In the case that there is nobody showing up in your guild, simply hit the "Refresh my Guild" button and just give it a few minutes. It seems that this happens to about one out of every twenty thousand people who visit the site, so chances are, you won't have to do this."
I was excited about your site when my friend (not a guild mate) told me about your site. I think you have a cool idea and hope the site works out for you.
BTW I only said you site is not great. I think it could be. I would understand being insulted if I posted in a way to insult you or your site. Saying your site is not great is not saying you site sucks.
Mep Feb 2nd 2009 6:37PM
lol, sorry, I'm just giving you a hard time cause your comment did come off negative and really, who needs that? That and I get the comment you made quite often from people who don't read the boards.
I saw what I considered a funny way to let off a little steam and you were an innocent bystander :) I'll move your guild to the top of the scan queue.
I've had some issues with the wowarmory lately, mostly the EU version of it, for example, my scanner didn't run all day today because characters were being deleted off of my site due to fail on wowarmory's part, and a clause that I didn't foresee leading to a logical deletion of characters... blah blah blah, let me know what your guild is and I'll make sure they are scanned tonight :)

I think Beelsebub may be cheating or is very lucky. He has the "My love is like a red red rose" achievement which can only be gotten during the "Love is in the Air" world event. He did get it on Oct. 15 which means I guess he got it retroactively, but how would that work 8 months after he received the item?
