The Guild: Episode 10 of Season 2

In this week's Guild, now up on MSN and Xbox Live (and Zune, if you're into that sort of thing), we get better acquainted with the stunt guy's *cough* buddy, who turns out to be named Riley, and is actually a gamer. Though not in the way you might expect. And Vork (last seen here -- you didn't forget about that sight, did you?) turns out to have a new skill, to Bladezz' disappointment.
Lots of fun. Do you think there really is a division among gamers like Riley and Codex? I'm a big fan of both genres, so I'd never have seen it, but do players of one type not get along with players of the other? We're all just gamers, right?
And we'll remind you, too, that there are only two episodes left this season. Only two more weeks of new episodes with Microsoft, and then in March, they'll start appearing back on YouTube again (pending another agreement, or whatever Felicia and those folks decide to do).

I liked that one, I was left feeling bad for Codex though. I can totally sympathise, I hate people too! kinda... ok.... people I don't know. Strangers. :P

Death to the FPS'ers! Rarr!
*Gets headshot then teabagged* :(

I do think there's tension between people who play MMORPGs with an FPS mindset and those that don't. The extreme end of the FPS mindset says that WoW is a game to be won, as quickly and efficiently as possible, and if you're not doing everything you can to have the current optimal spec/gear/etc. then you're a noob and don't deserve to play/post on messageboards/breathe my air.
For players who are more casual, who play the game primarily to spend time with friends, or who are attached to a "non-optimal" class or spec because they love the way it plays, or who enjoy role-playing, the FPS attitude is confusing and sometimes infuriating.

This episode delivered, imo.
I will be sad if they don't get another deal for next season. It has been nice knowing when the episodes are coming out, unlike the first season where you kind of had to guess.

I can get along with both types of players. Even when I played multiplayer FPSs pretty heavily, I played them for the fun, rather than to win. I don't think players play for solely one reason, but rather there's more emphasis on one reason than the others. I still like to be crowned the victory, y'know?

I've met both types... FPSers who think RPGs are for pussies, and FPSers who frankly don't care, video game is video game. It depends on the person.
Personally, I think anyone who goes "I'm an FPSer. You know, Halo!" is just a poser without substance anyway, but oh well >_>. I'm snobby like that.

Some great quotes in this episode:
"Im certainly not giving them any of my healing potion punch" -Codex
"You are going to Vork-tonomo bay" -Vork to blades
"I thought you were his girlfriend." -Codex
"Oh No. No. No No. Just roomate ..and occasional F-Buddy of course but mostly roommate." -Riley
"Well I kill stuff too its just I wear prettier outfits." -Codex
"You have the streetsmarts of a cartoon princess" - Blades to Vork when losing at poker
'Women, can't live with them...they will not go out with me" - Vork
"Had they been baboons their nether regions would have been slightly swolen and ruby red" -Vork
"All her ex-boyfriends were gay so she is probably a virgin at least with a few positions" -Clair
I laughed when Codex does a sexy hair toss just before strutting in for the kill with her wingwomen.

I hope they get a deal with hulu instead. I can never watch the new episodes from work and even at home it seems buggy at best.

That episode was fantastic. One of my favorite yet. FPS gamers just have a hard time understanding MMORPG usually or they become converted.

I thought the last couple of episodes has been a little dry, but that really had me laughing out loud.
Best line: "Women, can't live with them.... they will not go out with me..."

In college, everyone was into FPS except for me. I liked MMOs and never heard the end of it from them. FPS are fun to me for a few weeks but the multiplayer just bores me. It's more balanced than WoW but doesn't have the ability to tweak your character to make it better. I like being able to put more time into my character and be rewarded with more wins. It's not just about gear, it's about WoW being a little more complicated than FPS. Every class has an array of skills to master before they do well in PvP. If WoW were balanced, there would be no reason to play FPS.

Regarding the different types of gamer... Yes and no.
Yes, we're all Gamers. Yes, we all tend to go up in arms when our beloved industry comes under fire because of a very few utter incompetents who did something newsworthy bad (and would have done it whether they were Gamers or not, but are only getting attention about it BECAUSE they're Gamers).
But shuffling us all into a room and expecting us to get along because we enjoy some form of electronic interactive entertainment isn't the best idea.
There are the "hardcore" FPS Gamers, there are the "casual" MMO players, and there are the "mainstream" I'll-play-anything-that-fits-my-schedule, do-I-need-more-RAM-to-play-this players. (there are other types, but these are the very general sets that come to mind for me)
FPS Gamers seem to consider themselves the only REAL gamers, and everyone else is just headshot fodder. I'm not saying all of them, but referring to the stereotype that has sort of built up around that play style, and their more vocal members. When you interact with them outside their usual habitat, it tends to be a bit obvious: "What's the best gear?" "What's the best class?" "What's the best spec?" "I need that to be better." There's more black and white, less grey area with them. The vocal ones tend to have abrasive personalities - "You f'in noob, GTFO my game." The FPS Gamer tends to be more egocentric.
That doesn't lend itself to public relations with other Gamers who don't share that mindset. (and I'm not trying to say that MMO gamers don't have their share of these personalities, but a good number of the MMO players exhibiting this behavior seem to be recent-ish converts from the FPS community, or just visiting FPS Gamers giving the MMO flavor of the month a try)
