And here I thought subjecting a group to a pet five levels under the mobs we'd be fighting would be out of the question in most people's minds. >.>

I bet that no one would even notice what level the pet is or what its name is.

It should be for heroics. You should not be subjecting a group to that even as a survival hunter. Your pet is going to miss too much.Go to Petopia, find the highest level pet of the type you want, tame it and grind with it for a couple hours. It's not that bad. Find a place with a lot of mobs that respawns fast... I'm being selfish and not offering up my location... And just kill, kill, kill. I think I leveled up my 78 wasp in about 2 hours, and made a ton of gold as a skinner and from vendor trash/greens

Be aware petopia isn't perfect, and last I checked did NOT list level 80 tameables in NR heroics.I got a nice lime-green raptor from H Drak when I went sv, very happy with it, and no fuss on leveling.

If you're geared enough to raid, I think you can stand to lose a little dps in a heroic badge run. If a group of new 80s can clear a heroic without too much trouble, than unless you are planing to have the pet tank, you'll be fine.

just to put another concern among non hunters to rest, a pet has the aggro radius of the level of the hunter, not itself

You can easily do 5+ dailies that involve killing a lot of mobs at once.Frenzyheart or Oracle has the quest with the battle in the south.Tuskar has the "creepy guy in a white van" quest in dragonblight.Ebon Blade likes it when you shove swords in people in Ice Crown.Argent Crusade wants people freed of the whispers.Your faction wants you to kill Vyrkul and escort people up a mountain. And since the person here wouldn't tell you a grinding spot, I will.Icecrown, NW, where the "yellow" fallen heroes run and just before they vanish and the ones that are red are a little south of you. There is a choke point in that valley. You can choose to fight a lot, or a few. They'll keep coming to you and you can even farm frostweave. My wife and I spend an hour there each week to feed her tailoring habit... er assist her profession. We usually walk out with around 10-15 stacks in that hour due to her tailoring ability. (I'm a tankdin, so I can grind those mobs in my sleep.)
