Least grindy is probably a heroic or normal instance. If you have a well-geared group, your 100ish dps decrease isn't going to make or break the group. But yeah if it's a PUG or if you know it's questionable if the group could do it, you are adviced to bring whatever you can to max dps; pot, flask, pet, whatever. That goes for everyone IMO.
