Upcoming 3.1 class changes: Rogue, Priest, Shaman
Development just relayed major class changes coming in content patch 3.1 for rogues, priests, and shaman on the forums. Eyonix advises the list is in no way comprehensive, is subject to change, and is likely to receive additions as the weeks go by. Major class changes include:
- Priest's Divine Spirit is now a base ability of all Priests.
- Priest's Power Word: Barrier, a new Disc Priest talent that acts like a Power Word: Shield for the entire group.
- Rogue's Killing Spree increases damage an additional 20%.
- Rogue's Mace Spec now additionally increases haste.
- Shaman's Mana Spring and Healing Spring totems combined, along with Poison Cleansing and Disease Cleansing combined.
- Shaman's Spirit Weapons now reduces all threat.
- Shaman's Chain Lightning now hits 4 targets.
Class changes so far:
PRIEST
- Divine Spirit – this spell is now a core ability available to all priests.
- Discipline has access to a new talent, Power Word: Barrier. (Think of it as Power Word: Shield for your whole group).
- Several area of effect (AOE) heal spells have been improved: Prayer of Healing can be cast on any groups in your raid party. Holy Nova's mana cost has been reduced. Circle of Healing now heals for more.
- Shadow priest PvP survivability has been improved: Shadow Form now reduces magic as well as physical damage. Dispersion now removes snares.
- Penance – this spell can now be targeted on the priest.
- Serendipity – this talent now reduces the cast time of Greater Heal and Prayer of Healing when Binding Heal or Flash Heal are cast.
- We are also working to give Holy additional PvP utility.
ROGUE
- Hunger for Blood – instead of a self-buff, this ability can only be used when there is a bleed effect on the target. However, it has no stacks and grants a 15% damage bonus.
- Adrenaline Rush – the cooldown on this ability has been lowered.
- Lightning Reflexes – reduced to 3 ranks. In addition to 2/4/6% dodge, this talent now also grants 4/7/10% passive melee haste.
- Killing Spree – while this ability is active, the rogue does 20% additional damage.
- Savage Combat – now causes 2/4% physical damage done.
- Mace Specialization – this talent now grants haste in addition to armor penetration.
SHAMAN
- Chain Lightning – now jumps to 4 targets but does less damage. We wanted to make the distinction between Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning more clear.
- Storm, Earth and Fire – this talent now increases all damage done by Flame Shock, not just periodic damage.
- Spirit Weapons – now reduces all threat, not just melee threat.
- Unleashed Rage – reduced to 2 ranks, now also increases your critical strike chance with melee attacks by 1/2%.
- Totem streamlining: The Mana Spring and Healing Stream Totems have been combined. The Disease Cleansing and Poison Cleansing Totems have been combined.
- We are also working on giving Enhancement and Elemental more PvP utility.
Warrior, Hunter, Paladin, Mage, Warlock, Druid, and DK changes soon. We'll keep you updated! Who's pumped?

OMG OMG OMG thank you!!! I'm super excited about the buffs. Priest especially, now there won't be so much QQ on the healer forums. Also, since i have a rogue, the rogue buffs are much appreciated.

I'm PUMPED, GO SHAMMY!

Is it just me or did they completely destroy Hunger for Blood? A 51 point talent that is only useable when there is a bleed effect on the target? Looks like that is a talent point I'll be redistributing...
ayalafatalis Feb 4th 2009 11:32PM
You -should- be using Rupture as your finisher, and it should almost always be up on the target. So you should be able to use this pretty much whenever the C/D is up.
This doesnt even count bleeds from other classes...
Sounds like a buff to me..
Matt2233 Feb 5th 2009 12:11AM
stop qqing, frost mages can only use there 51 point talent on frozen targets and it has no use in pve whatsoever
Burix Feb 5th 2009 1:12AM
Except when Fingers of Frost (http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=44545) procs...
Ryan Feb 5th 2009 1:38AM
Does anyone know for sure if the new hfb works from another players bleed on the target? Or only rupture? Either way I like it.
Dranaerys Feb 5th 2009 2:29AM
The wording is kind of unclear,as we dont know if HfB is still a self buff we need to renew every 30s or not. Keeping bleeds up on a target shouldnt be an issue tho, if you are a halfway decent rogue your rupture uptime should be almsot constant, and even if yours is, bleeds from other rogues and warriors ensure the boss is constantly bleeding and you get the damage bonus.
Id like this change a lot better if HfB were passive (ie, 15% damage bonus on all bleeding targets for the Mutilate rogue), but if we have to keep spamming HfB, Bliz still havent addressed the main annoyance of this spec.

@ Burix:
PvE frost mages who take Deep Freeze should be forced to take off all their gear and be humiliated by Rhonin-Sue in the middle of Runeweaver Square ala the Gimp from Pulp Fiction.
Seriously, that is some pretty epic failure.

"Killing Spree – while this ability is active, the rogue does 20% additional damage. "
So they are just buffing the damage done by 20%? I mean, with KS, you basically start it, do your 5 attacks, then it's over. The skill doesn't have much 'activeness'...
Riley Feb 4th 2009 11:48PM
actually, it does, because it's not just something that instantly happens, it lasts 2.5 seconds
also, this means it affects any extra damage you do during the killing spree: sword spec triggers, blade flurry, instant poison, etc.
also i'm not sure, but i think auto attacks are still happening
TiM Feb 5th 2009 12:46AM
Nope no auto attacks happen. Just the fives attacks in 2.5 seconds. And if this works like all the other dmg increase talents it won;t boost DoTS already on the target. Just the killing spree. the sword spec procs and and instant/wound poison shots. kinda lackluster honestly.
Grubba Feb 5th 2009 1:06AM
Wrong. Autoattacks continue during killing spree.
Vanessah Feb 4th 2009 11:30PM
I'm SO drooling over those priest changes right now... *drool*
Muse Feb 4th 2009 11:54PM
Me too. More spirit for everybody.
Say, seen my jaw anywhere? I think I dropped it.
Kaphik Feb 5th 2009 12:41AM
Shadowform reducing spell damage as well as physical damage isn't just a buff for pvp. Going to be nice in pve as well.
