Upcoming 3.1 class changes: Rogue, Priest, Shaman
Development just relayed major class changes coming in content patch 3.1 for rogues, priests, and shaman on the forums. Eyonix advises the list is in no way comprehensive, is subject to change, and is likely to receive additions as the weeks go by. Major class changes include:
- Priest's Divine Spirit is now a base ability of all Priests.
- Priest's Power Word: Barrier, a new Disc Priest talent that acts like a Power Word: Shield for the entire group.
- Rogue's Killing Spree increases damage an additional 20%.
- Rogue's Mace Spec now additionally increases haste.
- Shaman's Mana Spring and Healing Spring totems combined, along with Poison Cleansing and Disease Cleansing combined.
- Shaman's Spirit Weapons now reduces all threat.
- Shaman's Chain Lightning now hits 4 targets.
Class changes so far:
PRIEST
- Divine Spirit – this spell is now a core ability available to all priests.
- Discipline has access to a new talent, Power Word: Barrier. (Think of it as Power Word: Shield for your whole group).
- Several area of effect (AOE) heal spells have been improved: Prayer of Healing can be cast on any groups in your raid party. Holy Nova's mana cost has been reduced. Circle of Healing now heals for more.
- Shadow priest PvP survivability has been improved: Shadow Form now reduces magic as well as physical damage. Dispersion now removes snares.
- Penance – this spell can now be targeted on the priest.
- Serendipity – this talent now reduces the cast time of Greater Heal and Prayer of Healing when Binding Heal or Flash Heal are cast.
- We are also working to give Holy additional PvP utility.
ROGUE
- Hunger for Blood – instead of a self-buff, this ability can only be used when there is a bleed effect on the target. However, it has no stacks and grants a 15% damage bonus.
- Adrenaline Rush – the cooldown on this ability has been lowered.
- Lightning Reflexes – reduced to 3 ranks. In addition to 2/4/6% dodge, this talent now also grants 4/7/10% passive melee haste.
- Killing Spree – while this ability is active, the rogue does 20% additional damage.
- Savage Combat – now causes 2/4% physical damage done.
- Mace Specialization – this talent now grants haste in addition to armor penetration.
SHAMAN
- Chain Lightning – now jumps to 4 targets but does less damage. We wanted to make the distinction between Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning more clear.
- Storm, Earth and Fire – this talent now increases all damage done by Flame Shock, not just periodic damage.
- Spirit Weapons – now reduces all threat, not just melee threat.
- Unleashed Rage – reduced to 2 ranks, now also increases your critical strike chance with melee attacks by 1/2%.
- Totem streamlining: The Mana Spring and Healing Stream Totems have been combined. The Disease Cleansing and Poison Cleansing Totems have been combined.
- We are also working on giving Enhancement and Elemental more PvP utility.

I'm sure there will be some sort of restriction on the spell. Long cooldown... short duration... small range. Just something. They're not going to let us block all incoming damage to a whole group that easily :)

What they are doing is making Chain Lightning more of what it was intended to be - an AoE cast rather than something that resides in an ele's rotation as it did prevalently in pre 3.0.8, not so much after the Shamanism and LB glyph buffs. Even less so with this change, and I have no problem with it.

As a Feral Druid, I haven't encountered any mobs immune to Bleeds at all yet, and hae raided everything in the game up to and including Sarth+3. In a raiding situation, this is a straight 6% damage buff to the ability; think of all the Bleeds you can have up - Deep Wounds, Rupture, Rake, Rip, Rend. That's plenty. In PvP, it's a nerf but I'm sure there's a reason for that.

HfB may be a buff depending if it will auto start when we pop a rupture. If we have to pop it after a rupture wasting energy, then its gonna be a pain in the ass, and even harder to keep up than it is now.
Ghostcrawler promised us a bugg, but I am not very impressed right now....

the unleashed rage was a long time coming... i can hardly see anyone wasting those 5 points if you are almost guaranteed to find a DK to provide that buff

My only concern with the chain lightning buff is how much of a damage decrease are we looking at? Is this fourth jump going to make up for the DPS lost in the initial three? As an elemental shaman, I'm pleased with it, but skeptical at the same time. Maybe the buff to flame shock will offset this? Who knows?
I'd also like to throw out there that the totem changes should have been done a long time ago. I'm looking forward to the next patch.

I'm not sure how to understand the HfB change.
As sig said, I hope we won't have to press the HfB button after every rupture; that would be stupid, annoying, not fun, not challenging. Better buff rupture by 15% and remove the HfB button.
I also seriously hope it will still remove self-bleed effects because *that* can be really useful when we want to vanish, and adds to the gameplay IMO.
Also the target bleed effect requirements is a 9% nerf for solo-play (farm) where we don't have the time to use rupture.
Now, the 6% buff is nice, of course.

As a shaman (raiding BC as elemental until we were in the middle of a healer crunch), the CL change both excites and scares me. When I've gone ele since 3.0.8, it's been fun. I still use CL in my single-target rotation. Would my CL hitting a 4th target be fun? Sure. Would it hurt my single-target boss damage, oh yes.
Shamans need AoE? Yarp, that we do. What elemental needs is AoE on either a shorter cooldown than 45 seconds, or on a totem we can USE. Fire totem, it's either a buff for the group, or it's damage. Not rightly fair. Mages don't have to sacrafice anything to use Blizzard. Druids can AoE until the cows come home and not take any hits with their buffs.
My idea? Give us a Blizzard-like spell. A channeled AoE as a core ability. Earthquake, like in WC3.
"Sure, give everyone AoE, make all the classes the same so it doesn't matter what you play anymore." That's a comment I've agreed with, but with all the trash that you have to AoE down in both 5-mans and raids, AoE is just too effective right now, and being a class without it blows goat.

Did you Combat Rogues miss this?
Lightning Reflexes – reduced to 3 ranks. In addition to 2/4/6% dodge, this talent now also grants 4/7/10% passive melee haste
Easily transfer 3 points from Improved Sprint, Endurance and/or Improved Kick to the new Lightning Reflexes and you get 10% passive melee haste. That is HUGE imo.
An extra 2% bump in total damage with Savage Combat is also BIG so long as you are keeping Rupture up 80-90% of the time like you should be.
These are MUCH NEEDED buffs for Rogue PVE DPS and all you other classes know it. There is no way hybrid classes should be out DPSing pures, PERIOD.

dear everyone cheering about divine spirit being baseline: this is because blizzard already said they are nerfing spirit based regen across the board. we'll NEED that spirit buff just to have as much regen as before.
