Dough, a deer: engineering a Little Fawn
Given my history as one, you'd imagine that I have a fondness for ungulates. You'd be right! And by introducing a baby deer pet as an achievement reward for collecting 75 pets, Blizzard has effectively doomed me to a life of waaaant. I mean, I like achievements well enough -- I'm not as crazy about them as some of my guildies are, mind you-- but I seriously hate farming, and a lot of pets require rep grinding or luck of the RNG. No thanks. I'll admire from afar.
I'm not the only person who wants a deer anyway, though (who wouldn't!), and that desire's resulted in some creative tinkering by those under the recently-lowered achievement cap and still fawning over the, ah, fawn. Some have even been kind enough to share their tricks of the trade for grabbing Baby Deerest.
Foreverdarkness over on the venerable wow_ladies LiveJournal community relayed her admittedly creative way of grabbing that final pet -- dropping her beloved Skinning and picking up Engineering to farm herself up a Bombling. The pet's only available to engineers, as it's BoP, but you can still summon it even if you're no longer an engineer, so she set to work grinding through the skill points necessary. There was another problem, though--you can only get the pet as a random reward when you renew your membership as a Goblin Engineer. So, she repeatedly renewed her license at 2 gold a pop, which, given the history of RNG, could have resulted in a lot of dough for a little doe. She was lucky, though, and (achievement in hand) was soon able to bring her diminutive deer along for a trip to scenic Naxxramas.
I was hoping she'd keep her engineering skill, as skinning is hardly a skill that our Little Fawn would approve of, but alas! The appeal of Master of Anatomy is too high. Can't win 'em all!

It's okay, dear, you already have a Doe. :3
(You see what I did there.)

If you really want to dedicate yourself here, You can drop Engineering again and regrind it for the Lil' Smoky Robot from Gnome Engineering.
I'm tempted sometimes, I admit.

Erm, did you read the linked post or the comments on the post? The author states pretty clearly that this isn't possible. :)

I was intending on grinding Engineering twice to get both pets but research indicated that this would be fruitless since you can change specializations but cannot get the reward for renewing, thus locking you out of one pet. I did a lot of looking into it since I was definitely up for doing it twice.

I'm two pets off my little Fawn :( Been farming for the Captured Firefly for days, and then need to start the rep grind for my Nether Ray Fry, or hope I get lucky during the Valentines festival. Either that or pray I win the Blizzard Valentines card contest :D Fortunately I'm the kind of person who doesn't mind grinding the same mobs for hours otherwise pet collecting would have driven me mad by now

I had the fawn the day the patch hit XD
Think I'm server first. But no one has the Dragonhawk mount yet, that is ten times harder to get than this little guy.

I really, really, really want a fawn. I have a nice little collection of pets going but after grinding for hours upon hours for a single dragon whelping and coming up with nadda.. I just don't know if I have the patience in me to collect 75 pets. Love it when I get a new one tho, puts a smile on my face :)

P.S. My kids absolutely love it when I get a new pet in-game. Main reason I started collecting.
Just thought I'd add that little tidbit

My Forsaken DK wouldn't be caught dead with that thing following behind him.
Helicase Feb 5th 2009 8:03PM
Is it embarrassing for a Forsaken to be "caught dead" doing something?
Gavin Feb 6th 2009 1:16AM
Yeah, well that was the whole point of the joke. Thanks, captain obvious!

I also had the little fawn on patch day. However, I suspect that having the original collector's edition of WoW and a teensy bit of luck with the TCG loot cards helped. I'm currently sitting at 86 pets - just got the Kirin Tor familiar last night. I don't think there are any in-game pets that I can still get, barring switching to engineering. And, alas, with the way things are looking I may not have a job soon, let alone enough dough to get another redemption pets. Wait for me, battle chicken!

Pfft, Lil' Smoky > Bombling

What's really unfortunate about achievements like this, in which every single item matters, is that many people deleted pets, tabards and such before the achievement system was introduced. I regret to this day about deleting the Spirit of Competition pet (it was ugly), and it's impossible to restore.

For an achievement of 75 pets, I'm pretty disappointed with this reward. It's a fawn. Wow. For gathering 75 pets, the rewards should increase in magnitude, not feel like a cheap handout. I dunno, I was just expecting something more... profound.
