"Emergency" rolling restarts

Logging on and playing might be rather difficult. All US servers are undergoing what now appears to be multiple restarts (Eldre'Thalas has restarted twice in the last 30 minutes).The logon announcement tells us that the process will take two hours, and each realm will be down for about 15 minutes.
Ideally this won't be something that impacts the game too long. And dang nabit, it better not, because yours truly has a lot of free time this weekend he plans to use leveling up his Shaman.
While the servers are down, why not check out WoW Insider's Guide to Patch 3.1? It'll at least keep you wowified for the time being.
And if the servers do stay down for too long this weekend, I just want to let our Editor-in-Chief Elizabeth Harper know that I'm going to join Alex in playing Warhammer.

i was in the middle of WSG match and didnt read this logging in or notice the announcments in my chat frame. Found out though when i was stunlocking some dude in bear form that was capping our damn flag....Whatever it was one of those shoutout matches where we lose anyways.
Please do us all a favor, if you just dinged 70 or are still in the lower 70s, don't join the 70-79 brackett of pvp. Youre gonna get raped by all the l33t norhtrend higher-level instance gear. Youre just costing the rest of us honor.

If you're so worried about lowbies ruing your sacred BG's... then stop playing them and level to 80.
Besides, easily killed bg lowbie team mates are balanced out by easy killed lowbie op-fac players. The door swings both ways.

Can't log in to Area 52 or Windrunner.... gets stuck on "Logging in to game server" or "Retrieving Character List"

We have some guild members on Moon Guard who can't log on to some of their characters, before and after the restart.

Just had the restart and it takes forever to get past the loading screen...and AH are down. =\

...says the person who couldn't design a network and server infrastructure for 11.5 million people to play minesweeper, let alone a massively multiplayer RPG.
I have enough trouble getting 6.5 million lines of Java to behave on a single server doing a business app, can't even conceive of trying to QA a largely non-deterministic, non-controllable environment.
Methinks you might cut them some slack...
