"Flintlocke" creator moving to Blizzard
Readers Geamo, Dice, and Leethax have written to let us know that Dave "Fargo" Kosak, co-founder of Gamespy and creator of the wildly popular "Flintlocke's Guide to Azeroth" and its Horde follow-up "Flintlocke vs. The Horde" is leaving for...Blizzard! In his farewell message on Gamespy he says he'll be creating content for Blizzard games and World of Warcraft specifically (so be on the lookout, as he writes, for "quest instructions (shouted) at you in a very loud, very poor Scottish accent"). Kosak has been responsible for hearthstones being memorably described as "the chickenrock," an explanation of aggro mechanics, The Five Stages of Warcraft, and the ultimate goblin-engineered weapon (which you can find in Area 52).
Unfortunately, it looks like he's not going to be able to continue the "Flintlocke" comics while at Blizzard (whether for time-related or legal reasons, I'm not sure), so that's kind of a downer. The current Horde comic has already been planned all the way to its end, which will occur at some point in late April. I was disappointed to read this -- I love Flintlocke, and the Horde storyline is amazing ("What kind of combat skills you got on that thing?" "Probably flee and mate") -- but I expect we'll be seeing some of Kosak's influence ingame.
Congratulations, Mr. Kosak, and from all of us here at WoW Insider, good luck!

Wonder what he'll pick for his forum avatar... an animated Flintlocke, perhaps?

Geamo Feb 7th 2009 4:27PM
He's written up to the end of the current series (it says in the article linked) so you'll see the showdown :)

I'm happy for Dave getting a job with a company and game he obviously loves so much. A dream come true for many WoW players I'm sure. I'm sad to think that there won't be any more Flintlockes after this run though.. I really love the comic, both the original and the new Horde storyline.
Well, here's hoping he can at least squeeze a few references into the game now.

Gz!
"Creating content for the World of Warcraft" seems like a pretty wide range of possible jobs - though I'm guessing you don't give up "founder of Gamespy" for entry level armor design.

From what he's written, he'll be directly responsible for a lot of the quest designs. This should prove interesting, given what he's contributed with Flintlock and "vs. The Horde" :-)

Your parents are wrong.

perhaps we could see Flintlocke come as an npc. Actually I'll be very happy to Rok'tar and Bun'kar; the warrior bunny.

Am I the only one that doesn't get why this is so popular? Every time I read it, it's just..ugh. So boring. Maybe because it's the lazy man's way of doing comics, and those faked expressions are just hideous. It looks tacky...
Badger Feb 7th 2009 5:18PM
All Kia had to do was express a single dissenting opinion, and in retaliation, you generalized "bitching" to every comment she's ever posted, and told her to kill herself.
Sir, I'm truly mpressed by your maturity and your superhuman self-control.
stonewallmike Feb 7th 2009 6:33PM
I read this site and it's comments enough to recognize the self-righteous condescension of Badger before I even read your name.
I could link heaps of comments of Kia bitching about this or that, with the earliest I remember seeing was her complaining that the zombie event was not inclusive enough of lower level characters. In fact she went on at length through 4 or 5 comments about how sucky life was during that period of time. I'm not going to do that because I don't need to waste that much effort justifying myself to you. The effort I am willing to expend is in fact almost exhausted.
Sir (or ma'am seems more likely, given your attitude), it's not your duty to defend obnoxious posters, and I don't really think my self control is that superhuman, so you way over estimated that one. GG.
Jessierockeron Feb 7th 2009 9:39PM
Yeah, everyone call Kia a bitch just because she's a human with opinions.
/end sarcasm

"Am I the only one that doesn't get why this is so popular?"
Yes.
Kia Feb 8th 2009 11:38AM
Lol, hi mike. Issues much?
Protip: People are prone to comment more on something they don't agree with rather than giving Random Article Subject a pat on the back.
Do appreciate the typical voting down of WoWI's readers, though. Perish the though there's a dissenting opinion in the ranks. Squash it down, squash it down!

Taking bets now that there will be a quest in the next expansion called:
Tell me you like my hat!

I call upon all dwarven players to go make the biggest bomb their engineering skill can make (Or buy some EZ throw) and toss it at your nearest pvp flaged horde, also if your class allows it shoot them with a gun preferably a boomstick!

As a former co-worker of Fargo's, I wish him nothing but the best with his move to Blizz. They are getting a real solid employee and a better person.
WTG Dave!
