Tabard storage solution incoming
So Blizzard's slowly but surely been expanding our storage system via extra bank slots, a keychain, and most recently, a new UI for mounts and vanity pets. It's become a lot easier to be a collector because of this, but as I have pointed out before, one major space problem remains: Tabards. Between Burning Crusade tabards, Wrath Reputation tabards, holiday tabards, world event tabards, TCG tabards, and achievement tabards, there's not enough room, either in your inventory or in your bank. Sure, you can sell off the tabards and rebuy them later, but that's sort of a pain.Luckily, there's finally signs that Blizzard means to bring us relief. Eyonix mentioned this morning that they've begun to look at possible ways to relieve the tabard space conundrum. It looks like the concept is still in the early stages, and Eyonix specifically said they have no ETA, but it may be coming, which is good news enough. I'm still advocating for a simple drop-down menu of tabards similar to the title dropdown on the character screen, or maybe a way to select a faction from the reputation screen to be your tabard of choice.
But however they do it, I'm looking forward to it. I enjoy flying various colors at various times for RP or fun reasons, so being able to switch swiftly should both make this easier and championing on the fly easier. Here's hoping we get an ETA soon, and that it's sooner rather than later.

if they do the drop down deal, it would be a good time to add old world faction tabards as well.. championing the Gnomeregan exiles while running the lower level instances would be cool, and a good way to grind rep.

Sure, I agree.
One caveat, though:
How do you fit non-reputation tabards into the mentioned reputation-selection-solution?
Karilyn Feb 7th 2009 8:22PM
Thank god, I've wanted this for so long.
There's a fundamental annoyance with most female armors... standard low cut cleavage showing armor. T7 Warrior set annoyed me so much in that regard, it's basically a tube top.
There's a good reason I've basically adapted the habit of always trying to find a tabard to match my armor and at the same time hide it...
Besides, the Scryer tabard looks pretty dang awesome with a combination of Warrior T7 and the Blue-ish generic Naxx Plate.

Wait...you're a tauren female? O.o
I don't think you need to worry about anyone staring at your chest..

Always be wary of furries o.o

All I want is a nice little cottage outside Iron Forge. With closets, lots and lots of closets.
Is that too much to ask?

Now if they'd just fix tabards so their lower half still shows if you're wearing a robe.

This is really important to get. If Blizzard continues to feed us tabards through achievements, TCG, or one-time events, they can't expect us to pass these up or simply trash our accomplishments.
Jamesisgreat Feb 7th 2009 8:54PM
Yeah I'm surprised they didn't implement this at the same time as the pet and mount changes. Ahhh well - lets hope its sooner rather than later.....

Hooray, the concept of "well you can just rebuy them" bugged the heck out of me. I like having them stored away for me to change into if I want them.

Blizzard is expanding the storage system so much that one day we won't even need bags, everything will have their special tab.
SaintStryfe Feb 7th 2009 10:14PM
More Old Timer QQ?
This is good. There's nothing bad about this, I can't figure out why you'd complain.
Licister Feb 7th 2009 10:24PM
I'm not Old Timer, I'm like 5 days pre-TBC o.O
But I think Blizz are making things too easy... Just my opinion, ofc I don't bother having more bag space.
MisterMoose Feb 8th 2009 4:50AM
"Too easy"? That's a joke right?
You aren't actually making the argument that bag space provides any real difficulty value to the game are you? It's just an annoyance.
Personally, I think they should up the difficult of the game where it really matters. Remove the fixed timing schedules of all bosses and making it variable timing, so that you can't just use a mod in a boss fight. Heck, I hope the new bosses have a much wider variety of tactics and surviving a fight is half learning it and half quick thinking.
Or you could whine about how bag space is an essential difficulty in the game or something....I guess.

They technically have something in place. They just need to adapt it. The guild tabard. It's a single tabard template that changes every time your guild/design changes. Use a drop down or add a preview interface like mount/pet/minions, and we're golden.
Jamesisgreat Feb 8th 2009 12:26PM
I like it - like changing your title, but changing your tabard instead!

I personally had an idea for a few new storage bags:
Armor Storage Locker
32 slot Armor Bag
This armor bag will only hold armor more then 5 levels below your current level.
Armor for this bag are defined as anything that can be equipped, but is not a weapon, or relic.
Weapons Storage Bag
32 Slot Weapon Bag
This weapon bag will only hold weapon items more then 6 levels below your current level.
Weaponsf for this bag are defined as anything that can be equipped, but is not armor, rings, or trinkets.
This way, people can store old armor sets, roleplay clothes, ect without sacrificing the insane costs of large bags.
Make them an Engineering, made with Saronite, Frostweave, Borean Leather and a pair of Northrend Herbs (To keep the armor smelling fresh!) or a pair of Northrend Gems (to keep weapons polished!).
skbid Feb 7th 2009 10:46PM
I like the idea but why have a stipulation that the items needs to be X levels below your current? Just throw armor in one and weapons in the other and be done with it. The big issue is do you make it a bag slot or a tab on your character screen? I vote for the latter as it would generate a lot more storage for everybody and not create a new market for overpriced crafted items.
SaintStryfe Feb 7th 2009 11:24PM
Well my opinion is Armor is one thing that I don't want colllapsed. Pets are optional. Tabards are Optional. Mounts are optional. Armor isn't. I want that in regular item blocks in bags. Further More, I think that At-level armor shoudl be treated differently - you can use it. Once you get past 5 levels though, to be blunt, the armor is there for show. Maybe you collected a full T3 set, or maybe you worked really hard for your S1 gladiator set, or you did a lot of work during Lunar Festival and bought all the suits/dresses. You should be able to keep those things if you want.
Draelan Feb 8th 2009 12:21AM
I disagree. Just because a set of armor isn't 5+ levels below you, doesn't mean it isn't out-of-date. What about someone who had T6 gear? T4 and T5 were out-dated for them, but they're still technically lvl 70 gear. As would be the blue dungeon set or lvl 70 crafted gear.
Personally, I'd love to see a wardrobe option. If it was a tab on your character window, I'd have to say having different ways to organize it would be a plus. Perhaps you could organize by gear level, gear type, gear class, alphabetically by name, or perhaps have a search function similar to professions.
