Larger default backpack "very possible" in the future

I've sort of grown out of whining about the little itty bitty default backpack simply because it's been there forever, but I'll be absolutely stoked if they ever let it scale or let you replace it with a bigger bag. Eyonix says that we should be proud of our trusty 16 slot, and I suppose that's sort of true. It's been with me through Molten Core and Ahn'Qiraj, through Naxxramas and the Black Temple and all of that jazz, but to be honest? It's getting kind of gross. It has developed a stench. I think it's been coated in slime and ichor a few too many times. If I could finally toss it out, that would be just great.

I am so jealous of my son's ever expanding Club Penguin inventory. :(

Don't make it removable or deletable. Just make it scale with levels. 2 slots every 15 levels.
Shisho2k Feb 10th 2009 2:46AM
Oh no, they might remove an unnecessary hassle from the game?
Will that line of code:
Default_Bag_Slots = 16;
become:
Default_Bag_Slots = 22;
In time for the 5th year anniversary?
Nooby Feb 10th 2009 3:11AM
For me, not even a 50 slot bag would be too much...
I'm just a trash junkie i guess, collecting and vendoring every possible copper i found lying on a ground near Dalaran inn...

Well, i'd say they should let us equip any bag in the 1st bag slot, and bind it as a backpack... Upgradable each expansion, easy to replace and so on.
I really dont see what is so special about the backpack except for the keybinding.

After reading these comments, I think I may be the only one who really doesn't want to see the backpack replaced. It's one of the few things I still have from my days running around in Elwynn Forest. (That and my hearthstone, but I may have deleted that once already.) Instead of adding 8 slots to the backpack, just make a set of bags 2 slots bigger each. The problem I see is that most people view the backpack slot as a 5th bag slot, where in reality, you have 4 bag slots and a backpack. The 4 bag spots can grow and be added to, but the backpack is part of your character... history and all.

Damn board ate half my comment.. /anger
My suggestion was to have Parcels, that you can build using Wrapping Paper. Keep a stack of Wrapping Paper and at any given time use one paper to make a Parcel of up to 3-5 items. You can then open it carefully to withdraw some items as needed, or open the bag fully (destroying the Parcel). Like fishing crates or those drink/food/gold/randomgreen quest rewards.
Heck, let Inscribers make the Wrapping Paper if needed.
SimpleSurvival Feb 10th 2009 12:06PM
that would be an interesting...
The mechanic already exists, There already is wrapping paper in the game, and you can package your items (i remember a bug where gifts got the "of the ___" suffix that the item had)
All they would need to do is expand this mechanic to allow 2+ items to be put in the package.

I've taken my pack everywhere with me.... Its been messed up since the beginning... but its served me well.
Its waterproof, and if you are careful, you can store troll sweat in it. I've had it full of sewer carp before too (still haven't found the rat after 500+ carp)... best of all, you can fit an entire rotting bear carcass in it, even more depending on the stage of decay.
I don't think its necessary to have a bigger backpack...
That is what your bag slots are for...
you want a 24 slot backpack? why not just make bags with 2 more slots in them... you'll get the same number of slots. Blizz has been increasing the bag space consistently.
The only bummer is the lowbies... I find it impossible to meaningfully quest without buying my lowbie a full set of 16slotters at least. Its downright painful to lvl with no bagspace. If they did improve the default bag, they should not make it scale with level, they need to show some love to the lowbies who can't find room for the endless quest items they pick up...
But, on a similar note... any changes to bag space would totally mess up the Clamming Twink bracket... It was bad enough when they lowered mount requirements so clamming twinks could get from spawn to spawn faster. Then the Clammer QQ got it so you could open clams while mounted... and 22 slot bags weren't enough for them either... so they got clams to stack... They might as well just have a vendor that gives away free clams. talk about world of hello kittycraft.

Am I the only one who remembers them saying that bags are big enough already a few months back, and that there won't be bigger bags with every expansion anymore?
I think they said that around 2.4, when the thing that should not be named started selling the first 22 slot bags.

IMHO every 10 or so levels you should get a quest that has a bag reward, and I'm talking a fairly big bags too. Not huge, but enough room to hold all the trash and quest items you end up carrying around.
Bag 1 should be given at level 2 and so forth.
Bag limitations are the biggest annoyance in this game for me when taking a character up the levels. It's just silly having to destroy items mid quest just to make room for that extra bone necklace or whatever else you're gathering.
Hell even NPCs that say "Hey there, I see you're using a small bag.. fancy an upgrade for 50s?" and exchange the bag for you. Just shitz like that.
Healntouch Feb 10th 2009 11:57AM
I didn't read all the comments but why don't they make the default bag expand like the Key Ring based on Level. As you increase in level you get more key ring slots.
Kanuris Feb 10th 2009 12:06PM
£10 says the upgrade will be a gold sink.

Esp when it has been covered in Eck residue too many times....the smell is ferocious!
