When AFK attacks redux

One day, though, he got lucky and finally spotted the fantastic creature... except that it was already tagged by a Gnome Death Knight. Instinctively, he did what any red-blooded member of the Horde would do. He Mind Controlled the Gnome, used him to tank the drake, and when the drake was low on life, tossed the Death Knight off the edge of a cliff. One Shadow Word: Death and a hearthstone later, the priest was in Krasus' Landing sitting atop his pretty green drake.
Unlike the unlucky but restrained Orc that Matt's wife encountered, however, you can just imagine the rage of the unfortunate Death Knight. With the rarity of the Time-Lost Proto Drake, rumored to have a long respawn timer and known to blink across the map, it was like winning the lottery and getting held up on the way to the bank. But see, we play on a PvP server. Flares and unintelligible emotes are the least of anyone's worries. It's an environment where players will kill for something as simple as a mining node or an herb. Heck, players don't even need a reason.
I'm not sure I'd have done the same thing myself. It's hard to say. Was it an incredibly rude thing to do? Oh, absolutely. Was it cruel considering the Death Knight had probably been on a similar month-long search? Definitely. These were the questions that popped into my head when I heard the tale. In the end, I told myself that it was the only thing to do. PvP server + opposite faction + extremely rare mob = everything is fair game. I had nothing to do with it, but I found myself sympathizing with the Death Knight. That sentiment lasted for all of two seconds, though. I mean, come on. It was a gnome.

I've played on both PvE and PvP servers and have come to love PvP servers much more. As others have said it's the thrill of knowing that you can be ganked at any time.
As an example I was doing the daily where you have to discipline the lazy miners yesterday and on my way out of the mine there were 2-3 alliance coming in. I just bit my lip and walked through them thinking the whole time "If they start shit I can probably rip one of them up before I go down."
Later on, while killing frozen revs for another quest I noticed a hunter friend being ganked by an alliance warrior/shaman team. I jumped in and took them down just after the hunter died. They rezzed and came back, a rogue joined them, a resto druid joined us. We probably spent 10-15 minutes fighting (and pwning them). No we weren't camping, they were initiating after they rezzed and healed again. Eventually they gave up and took off but it was fun.

HAHAHAHA! Kudos for killing that gnome DK! It was an ingenious way to get what he wanted and he deserved that mount. Sure, the DK -may- have been camping that drake or he just happened upon him, but he was the one who wasn't prepared for the fight and thus the looser. PvP realms are just that. People play these realms because it's more fun than PvE (And yes, I use to play on PvE, for about 2 years actually and was never really happy with the game until I switched to PvP). That Gnome DK should have realized he wouldn't be the only one after that drake and so it was his own stupidity that he lost it. All's fair on PvP servers whether it sucks or not.

Was this fair since it was on a PVP server, yes. Does that make this Hordie the biggest piece of digital sh!t, YES. What a dick move. I hope you get a flat tire in the rain buddy.

I know it's been said, but I just want to reiterate that, even accounting for hyperbole, the author's guild-mate spent somewhere between 40-90 hours flying around... At minimum wage that would total... Well, never mind... I'm no casual, but thinking about that number depresses me. The staid PvP argument and silly gnome bashing seems far from the most disturbing part of this article...

Heh....I am so lucky. I have this guy AND Loque'nehak.
Incidentally, I accidentally stole the drake from a good friend of mine...I had no clue he was chasing it, I just saw it flapping around while I was mining and nabbed it. Then he ran up and was like NOOOOOOO as I was patiently skinning. Lol....I suck. =)

I only really have one thing to say about the whole Priest Vs. Gnome DK situation:
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Funniest thing I've read all day!

After reading this article few minutes ago, I secretly logged on at work and headed to Stormpeaks to try my luck for no more than 10 minutes.
Two minutes of flying around (and spamming my targetting macro) whizzed by and I had the drake targetted. Being on my flying mount and having the drake enter combat, I experienced huge adrenaline rush. "You sir are about to become a proud drake mount owner, just don't mess this up," I thought to myself.
With the drake attacking me, we descended to the ground, where I dismounted, fought and killed it. After suppressing loud cheering and urge to dance around the room (still at work!), I rushed to pick my sweet, juicy, beautiful new mount. But WHAT THE HELL? The corpse was not lootable! WTF?
Then truth punched me in the face, as a horde rogue comes out from behind the corpse, and mounts his new time-lost protodrake mount - the bastard tapped the drake while I was pulling it down to the ground. I made all the work for him. I found the drake, pulled it right to him, and helped him kill it. He blew me a kiss in return. Well, there goes my mount.
This article ruined my day. :) For a minute there, I felt shivering waves of epic win, followed by crushing blow of yet even more epic, pangalactic fail. I guess I'll get drunk tonight, to wash away the sadness, to blur the picture of upcoming weeks of farming, and eventually to shorten the wait for this beauty's respawn.
Curse this game. :)
